A Bridge Too WoW
WoW Buildings is extremely pleased to be able to offer our immersive 3D 28 mm - 10 mm WW2 Operation Market Garden bridges, buildings, boats, terrain and more as our second Kickstarter campaign after our very successful 28 mm Sci-Fi Kickstarter late 2017.
The bridges, buildings, boats, terrain and accessories are specifically for the September 1944 Allied operation to take the bridges leading from Belgium to the Rhine river and therefore provide a gateway into Germany, this was Operation Market Garden.
The STL files are supplied scaled for 20 mm gaming but can be scaled up or down to print from at least 28 mm down to at least 10 mm. You can print at a smaller scale but smaller more intricate features will sometimes disappear.
We guarantee that all the STL files supplied as part of this Kickstarter campaign will not be commercially available for at least 6 months from the date the Kickstarter ends. Get them now or you will have to wait for your next chance for quite some time.
In an effort to supply our backers with what we hope will be "first time right prints" we have put all of our designs and STL files through a rigorous testing process to eliminate as many possible causes of print errors before the designs have been released. Our process included:
- Designed in Various 3D Design Software
- Checked with 3D Inspector software and fixed if necessary
- Loaded into Windows 3D Builder, imported and fixed if necessary
- Loaded in to Autodesk MeshMixer, inspected and fixed if necessary
- Loaded into FlashPrint and layer checked
- Loaded into Cura 2.5.0 and layer checked
- Loaded into slic3r 1.2.9 and layer checked
While we cannot offer a 100% print guarantee we believe we have exhaustively processed each file to ensure maximum output and minimal design issues. You, as the printer owner, will still need to configure your printer in your choice of print software to generate the gcode to print each design. Only you know your printer and print software.
We do offer a 100% guarantee to fix any design errors we have missed and advised to us by our backers via this campaign page or our Facebook page:
Pledge £1 - Come Join Us!
Even at this pledge level every backer gets something. We will provide you with one of our accessory STL files and the pledge keeps you up to date with this campaign and all our upcoming campaigns.
Pledge £10 - Basic Builder
Let's start at the very beginning (We are told it is a very good place to start)! Joe's bridge near Neerpelt, while not captured as part of Operation Market Garden, was captured a week before by the Irish Guards who led the advance by XXX Corp up "Hell's Highway/The Club Route" so we thought it a pertinent inclusion. It also had two distinctive buildings near it and have included them in this pledge level as well.
Pledge £20 - Intermediate Builder
Two of the more iconic bridges are the lift bridges. There is one shown early on in the film when the Germans are retreating back from Belgium. We are providing in this pledge level the Bruegel and Veghel left bridges. The Bruegel can be printed with the single lift and the small bank piece or two lift bridge pieces to go end to end for wider canals or rivers. The Veghel bridge is provided with the lift components but after the road surface had been blown by the Germans and with the temporary wooden surface built by the Allies on their advance.
Pledge £30 - Master Builder
This pledge level provides the Son (rotating) bridge just north of Eindhoven, the one the Germans blow up literally in the face of the 82nd Airborne troops attempting to capture it in the movie. The bridge includes two bank pieces, the center piece and its protection barriers and the rotating bridge before the Germans blew it up. In the movie the Son is represented by a lift bridge but we have provided the original Son bridge and the 2 houses in close proximity. The houses have removable roofs and inner upper floor.
Pledge £40 - Power Builder
While not one of the "Big Two", the Grave bridge was the longest bridge captured by the Allies during Operation Market Garden, and they got it intact before it could be destroyed. This was another target for the 82nd Airborne. The paratroopers arrived not far from the "pump works and house" and thought it was a power station and immediately captured it. There were two bunkers built by the Dutch to defend the bridge from the Germans, which were also in use. On the eastern side of the bridge there was a lock and the lock control tower was built into one of the bridge supporting piers. We supply the bridge in two slightly different sections, all 9 sections can be modeled using one section or the other. We also supply the pump works and associated house, both the north and south bunkers, the lock and the lock control house.
Pledge £50 - Complete Builder
This pledge level will get you all the stretch goals regardless of whether they are opened or not. We have started with an ambitious 9 stretch goals but have more ideas up our sleeves if these should be reached. We will attempt to always have at least 2 stretch goals unopened.
Stretch Goal #1 £1000 - Bailey Bridge
So you can breach those canals and rivers where the bridges were blown before they could be captured, the first stretch goal is a bailey bridge that can be used as a span bridge or with the pontoon boats to be a pontoon bridge. The stretch goal contains a bridge section, pontoon boat and end ramp.
Stretch Goal #2 £1500 - Drielse Veer Ferry
The next stretch goal will allow you to play one of the great "what if" scenario's connected to Operation Market Garden. British intelligence failed to determine that the vehicle ferry, Drielse Veer, which crossed the river just to the west of the Oosterbeek rail bridge, even existed. Did the captain disable it? Did the German's disable it. Now you can include it in your games.
Stretch Goal #3 £2000 - Nijmegen Bridge
Stretch goal #3 adds the first of the "Big Two" bridges, the Nijmegen road bridge. Famously captured after a combined simultaneous assault on both ends of the bridge. The 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, paddled across the Waal river and assaulted the northern end of the bridge while the Irish Guards from XXX Corp in their tanks assaulted up the road and across the bridge from the south. The bridge was wired to be blown but when the plunger was engaged nothing happened no matter how many times the Germans tried.
Stretch Goal #4 £2500 - Arnhem Bridge
This is the second of the "Big Two", the Arnhem Road Bridge. This is the bridge that Lieutenant-Colonel John Frost, after whom the bridge is now named, and his 2nd Parachute Battalion attempted to capture and hold the bridge until XXX Corp arrived to relieve them and take control of the bridge. Well we all know how that went!
Stretch Goal #5 £3000 - Hotel Tafelberg
One of the more iconic buildings from Operation Market Garden is the Hotel Tafelberg in Oosterbeek. Prior to the battle it had been used by the German Field Marshal Walter Model as the Headquarters for OB West. It then became the field hospital for the 1st Parachute Division at Oosterbeek which the British shared with a local doctor and his family who were caring for locals injured in the battles in the area of Oosterbeek and Arnhem.
Stretch Goal #6 £3500 - Hartenstein Hotel
Another iconic building from Operation Market Garden is the Hartenstein Hotel. While it was the HQ for the British 1st Airborne Division at Oosterbeek during Operation Market Garden, in the movie "A Bridge Too Far", it is where the movie had Field Marshal Walter Model's HQ before the "Red Devils" moved in.
Stretch Goal #7 £4000 - Zwarteweg Terrace Houses
This is a set of Zwarteweg Terrace houses where Major-General Urquhart and two other officers were stranded for 2-3 days in the middle of the battle while trying to reach Arnhem.
Stretch Goal #8 £4500 - Arnhem Houses
A great range of Dutch style houses similar to those found around the Arnhem bridge at the time of Operation Market Garden.
Stretch Goal #9 £5000 - Horsa, Hamilcar and Waco Gliders
Moving on with some broader stretch goals that are not bridges, Operation Market Garden would not have been possible without the use of gliders. As it was several drops over several days were needed to get all the troops and equipment in place using the C47's as both paratroop transports and tugs for the gliders. While only the Horsa and Hamilcar gliders were the main gliders used during Operation Market Garden we have also included the famous US Waco glider as well.
Stretch Goal #10 £5500 - Oosteerbeek (Arnhem) Rail Bridge
Another matching pair of road and rail bridges to add to the "what if" category. Again the German's managed to demolish this rail bridge before the British could capture it. Oosterbeek Rail Bridge - Locked Oosterbeek Rail Bridge - Locked
Stretch Goal #10 £6000 - Accessories Pack
This stretch goal will include light poles, power poles, assault boat, airborne cart, airborne pods and as many other accessories as we can get done in time.
Stretch Goal #11 £6500 - Brigade HQ Arnhem
This is a very large building occupied by the Brigade HQ in Arnhem. Before release this design will have an optional damaged roof and detailed interior.
Stretch Goal #12 £7000 - Arnhem Museum Building
You have seen the renders in the updates so I won't add them here, this is another big building.
Stretch Goal #12 £7500 - Arnhem School Building
Again, you have seen the renders in the updates so I won't add them here, this is yet another big building.
Stretch Goal #12 £8000 - 3 Generic Dutch Buildings
Stretch Goal #13 £8500 - 3 Generic Dutch Shops
More Stretch Goals
The campaign has taken us a little by surprise so while we have lots of partially prepared options for more stretch goals we are still finalising our plans so we will send an update once any more stretch goals are added.
The final product may vary slightly from the sample render photos or printed photos above where print testing has demanded slight modification to ensure a better print. The overall items will not change dramatically from the samples shown.
Risks and challenges
There are NO risks or challenges! All items listed above have already been designed and the STL files exist. As we reach each level we will release photos of the printed items and if possible painted items. The files have been loaded and processed through 3 slicing programs, FlashForge, Cura 2.5.0 and Slic3r 1.2.9. We have also loaded the files in Windows 3D Builder and MeshMixer and analysed the files for errors and fixed the errors.
