About this project
Wireframe on Shaded Games invites you to experience a new spin on the classic tower defense genre!
Sun Sentinels is a 3D tower defense game, featuring spell casting and optical illusion puzzles that give you the opportunity to take control of the battlefield. You will be able to trick your enemies in addition to building towers, traps, and new paths. Inspired by games like Monument Valley by Ustwo and Fez by Polytron Corporation, we embarked on this journey to create unique gameplay for a genre that we all enjoy. Set in ancient Egypt, the player takes the role of a priest who must draw on various powers of the Gods to protect the sacred scarabs and stop an eclipse from swallowing the sun forever.
The game is made within a vibrant 3D environment where you are able to control the camera angle to your advantage, and where you can fully enjoy ancient Egypt coming to life!
In this tower defense game, your goal is to help Ra escape the darkness that the Great Serpent-God Apep engulfed him in. The Sun has been consumed by the maw of the snake, which trapped him in its belly. Ra has found himself in the underworld, with no way to escape the darkness of the primeval waters from which the world first sprouted. The underworld is the domain of Apep, and it will consume the world if you – the Sun Sentinel – do not stop it.
Sun Sentinels will be available first and foremost on Android devices.
An iOS and Steam release are our first stretch goals that we would love to bring to you!
Apep unleashed his corruption upon the land, turning the creatures and warriors of Egypt into his minions. Luckily, other friendly deities are helping you fight against the darkness, giving you unique powers to defeat Apep's forces.
Path-making: Manipulate enemy lanes and progression.
As a priest of Ra, you are much safer being on the hallowed ground of the temples where the Gods bound the chaotic rifts of the underworld into several unbreakable portals. The enemies here are forced to emerge only from those portals, and they must travel along the cursed stones to reach their prize.
Build the path that you want the enemies to take.
Force Apep’s minions into detours and trap them to maximize tower damage.
Illusions: The game’s 3D environment allows you to turn the angle of the camera to create mazes and puzzles.
Use optical illusions to your advantage and outwit Apep.
Create portals and trap doors to change the path that the enemies take.
Towers and Traps: Be the catalyst for the power of the Gods.
Build powerful, unlockable towers that burn your enemies to a crisp, freeze them into an ice-cube, or smite their corruption with holy light.
Use traps to intercept enemy paths.
Build magical portals to control the movement of your enemies.
Spells: When enemies swarm, don’t just sit around, fling divine spells at them!
Use spells to banish Apep’s minions, either with raw power or trickery.
Try out the spells granted to you by Anubis, Ma’at, Horus and other deities.
Favor: Gain the favor of the Gods by using different play styles and strategies.
Play it your way!
Ra’s favor is a resource that you accumulate by destroying your enemies.
Ptah’s favor is a resource that you accumulate by trapping your enemies and releasing them from corruption.
Each of these resources gives you access to different abilities and powers.
Temples: Dedicated to different deities who will fight for Ra alongside you.
There are eight grand temples of Egypt, and each one of them houses Ra’s sacred scarabs, which the forces of chaos are determined to destroy. If you protect the scarabs and their orbs, they will hatch miniature suns that will find their way to Ra and empower him. Once the power of all the temples has been harvested, Ra will have enough strength to banish Apep from Egypt once more.
Modes: Enjoy a variety of modes, including the main Story Mode, Infinite Waves Mode, and Challenge Mode. If we get enough support for our game, stretch goals include more modes for editing and sharing levels!
We have a talented team of audio specialists and composers. Here is a snippet of the melodies of Egypt that we will bring to you.
Main Theme: Composed by Tom Zornes
Ra Theme: Composed by Sean Taylor Brown
Hathor Theme: Composed by Alejandro Hernandez
We also have the pleasure of working with Billy Giddings, Drummer of Deuce (Later named Tension), where he performed with Marty Friedman of Megadeth, and Tom Gattis of Wardog. Billy will be performing percussion on many of the tracks that will be present on our soundtrack. Check out Update #3 for more information.
We are excited to offer our backers and supporters all kinds of perks and rewards!
Since the start of Wireframe On Shaded, every expense to get up and running has been covered by our team members. We are working on this title for free, supporting the process with side jobs and personal savings, but we need funds for additional software licenses and taxes.
That's where we ask for your help!
Our plan is to have Sun Sentinels ready to ship on Android devices by Fall 2015, but if our Kickstarter Campaign gains sufficient support, we will be able to release our game on iOS and PC as well. If we gain even more support, then free DLC is definitely something that we would love to provide our community.
We are Wireframe On Shaded Games, a fresh indie team working out of Winter Park, Florida. Our team is comprised of young professionals and college students, all passionate about making great games! Each member of our team had specialized skills that we're focused on bringing the game community a great player experience.
We here at WOS believe Sun Sentinels has the potential to elicit a fun experience, and we want nothing more than to bring that to you!
Risks and challenges
Video game development is a complex process, which has time and financial constraints. The main challenge is to overcome technical and design hurdles without letting them delay our progress. So far, we have poured more than half a year’s effort and a significant amount of resources into this project, which has been going strong ever since.
We are confident that we can have the game shipped during the fall season of 2015. It will hold a high level of polish and quality to it, for our team is determined to see it through. With your help, we can give the game the turbo boost that it needs, and if the Kickstarter Campaign goes exceptionally well, we can include many features that would have been too risky to attempt otherwise.
If we reach our stretch goals, it will bring significant additions and new content to our game, which may delay its release date but improve the overall depth and quality of the gameplay. If that is the case, our team will remain in open communication with our community of backers to inform you about the implementations into the game, as well as its progress and if it affects the release date or not. Since we are planning to have the game’s core features complete in just a few months, we are estimating that additional features and content will not affect the release date by much, if at all.
The team members at Wireframe on Shaded Games are excited for this opportunity to bring you a game that revives a classic tower defense genre with a new twist! We are committed to creating a high quality product and to shipping it to you without delays.
