About this project
Welcome to my WONDERFUL WORLD OF WHITE where you’ll discover the wonder and healing I've found using my camera in the backcountry of Northern British Columbia. I’ve gone through my image archive, chosen my favourites and written the stories and now it's time to share them all with you. I'm putting all these elements together in a 96-page, 12"x12" softcover coffee table book featuring photos and stories from my last three seasons of ski touring.
Ski touring* gives me the ability to go where not everyone has the ability or desire to visit on their skis. I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment and have learned much in the way of motivation and discipline as I’ve grown in my touring abilities. I am continually encouraged by the beauty of the surrounding spaces I have gone on so many adventures in, and I want this book to be a reflection of this beauty for all to see.
* at the end of this story, there's a video that briefly explains the fundamentals of ski touring
Community and building relationships are important themes, both in the town I call home and the sport of ski touring. They are the foundational elements behind why I am choosing to go with crowdfunding over a traditional publishing platform to help turn my dream into reality. I desire to build a community of like-minded folks who have an appreciation for the beauty, serenity, nature and the art of earning your turns.
Ultimately, my goal is to give you a taste of where I've gone and what I've done. After you're done reading my book, my goal is that you'll have had a sense that you were right there with me, experiencing the joy that being out in the high and wild places of this world brings.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
There are a few ways you can help me turn my dream into a reality:
- making a pledge towards my campaign goal of $35,000
- sharing the campaign link on your social media channels
- encouraging your own community of family and friends to make a pledge and then share the campaign themselves
My campaign goal will cover the production cost of printing 500 softcover books, the Kickstarter and Amazon Fees, the cost of mailing the rewards to my supporters and a contingency for unforeseen costs that arise during the campaign.
Should the campaign exceed my initial goal, I have the following stretch goals:
- at $42,000 I will produce 500, 96-page hardcover books
- at $48,000 I will produce 500, 120-page hardcover books
- at $56,000 I will produce 500, 144-page hardcover books
I realize the cost of producing 500 copies of these books is significant, but it's a risk I'm willing to take. I'm going with an offset printing company in Vancouver, BC because I want to be able to proof the book in person and be able to guarantee the quality of the materials used for the book. If I were to go overseas, the production cost would be less, but I wouldn't be able to visit the press in person and proof the book. Also, going offshore for the production would increase my turn around time and make it impossible to have the book back for the start of the upcoming ski season. Having it produced locally means I'll be able to have the book printed in time for the Christmas gift-giving season as well.

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge my project faces is that it will not reach it's funding goal. The best thing I can do to ensure the campaign succeeds is to continue to spread the word about it to as many interested parties as possible, and to encourage them to support and share the campaign themselves.
Another challenge this campaign will face is to send out the rewards to my supporters in a timely and efficient manner. Digital rewards will make delivery quicker, and being prepared with sufficient delivery modalities for physical products will help ensure rewards are sent out as quickly as possible.
The final artwork for the book will be sent off to the printers at the conclusion of a successful campaign after I have received the campaign funds from Kickstarter. Approximately six weeks after that, the books will be ready and delivery will commence shortly after that.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
