HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT!!! Who is WoS partnering with?!?

Hey and sorry about the long time without an update...

Thanks for the support for the show Steampunk’d as well. Bunch of big news – smallest to largest First, The World of Steam – The Webseries.  Going to reiterate some things and going to bring up some new things as well, so keep your ears open. Seriously wait for it...

 We have amazing news!!!

WoS: The Webseries news

  • Tommy Aagaard our editor/producer had to go on to work as lead on a 100 million dollar movie, and we think that’s an okay career move, so we’ll allow it. Plus we’ve taken up years of his life, pushing this thing along bit by bit, so we figured a scenery change was good to keep him sane.
  • We’ve also brought on a new editor named L Dillon Thomas who has been gracious enough to lend his time to us. He just left working on the new Pirates of the Caribbean, so we’re in good hands.
  • We’ve integrated 99.99999% of the pickup shots into the cut, and we’re going to get the last couple of little inserts this upcoming week.
  • Long story short, the number of CG shots in this is topping 250 at this point. But it looks great, and I’m proud of it. We’re getting there.

Second, The World of Steam TV show

I am proud to announce that World of Steam will be partnering with The Henson Company!!!! yes, that’s Henson studios to bring The World of Steam to television. Yes, you heard that right, The Jim Henson Company! We’re specifically working with an amazing producer named John Hyde who you might know from a couple of films that he did like Short Circuit, Flight of the Navigator, The Ralph Bakshi Fire and Ice, The Lost Boys and Neverending Story. He was also the animation executive producer on the animated Hellboy movie and a small show called The Simpsons. We’re also incredibly excited to be working with Lisa Henson, the CEO of Henson studios who took a liking to the project early last year, and we’ve been working together on getting it out. Now, other than the fact that I’ve wanted to work with Henson since I was four years old, why does Henson dovetail well with The World of Steam.

For some of you this is a duh, but some others only know the Hensons through the muppets, so lemme explain. I met Henson as a kid through the muppets. But I came to LOVE Henson through Labyrinth, Jim Henson’s Storyteller and of course The Dark Crystal. Even later I became an uber fanboy of Farscape. It is that dark world blending of magic, machines, myth and mayhem that I hope we can create together with this partnership. So, there’s news, that’s what I’ve been sitting on for a while now, and I hope you enjoy what we bring out. We really want to hear from you though.

So if you like Henson, and you like Steampunk and you think this is a match made in heaven like peanut butter and jelly, fish and chips, sun and moon, thunder and lightning, or… Steampunk and Henson Studios. That fan noise goes a long way to helping us get distribution or for a major studio like Netflix or Amazon to pick us up. So, seriously, if you like this idea, make some noise and spread this far and wide.

As always, thanks for your help with this, you guys are the best fans in the world.

Matt

Yes! I think there are a lot of things the Henson Company can do for this project. I know it's been a struggle for you to keep the momentum of this project going. I'm glad to know you are seeing this through Matt. Your dedication means a lot to us that have supported this project. My continued hopes and support are with you. Thank you again!

This is just amazing and wonderful news, because now this could be the Breakthrough series doorway through which the general public gets to see something that we love known as Steampunk and perhaps even generate more interest I hope? Congratulations!!

If you want us to share the news, is there an announcement page anywhere we can share with social media?

OH My Giddy Gawds, from an indie kickstarter backed project to a JimHenson company anthology series? This just goes to prove some kickstarters are more adventures.

I grew up a Henson fan, especially labyrinth, dark crystal and the storyteller. They still heavily influence my own steampunk projects.

      Congratulations!

Well @palenoue, I don't know HOW we're going to create some of the things that we are talking about, but there have been very distinct conversations about creating things that highlight the talents of the creature shop and sit very firmly in my steampunk universe.

This sounds so promising! You said you want to hear from us, so here's a question: If you're working with the Henson Company will there be something like motion capture animatronics mixed with more traditional puppetry? Like something along the lines of a face capture rig (as used in Avatar) connected to servos in the puppet head so when the puppeteer smiles the puppet head smiles. I've always suspected one could get more facial expression (not to mention lip synching) with larger muppets (like Sweetums) or detailed control of arms, hands and body language of smaller muppets (like Pepe and Rizzo). I've never had the chance to ask anyone in the profession about this, but you did say you wanted to hear from us, and what is steampunk without strange and mysterious creatures?
