"Commander, welcome to the world of 'Pocket Landship'. With your skill, our new diesel powered Landship, and a little luck, we hope to rid the land of these evil, intruding mechs, and end the steam age forever...GO BE VICTORIOUS!".
Pocket Landship is a solo and 2 player co-operative dice and card game, set in an alternative early 20th century, pitting the player(s) against an onslaught of enemy mechs, artillery, infantry, and more.
The game is called 'Pocket Landship' for a reason. It is a small game, designed to be played in a small space and to be carried easily in your pocket or bag. It is all about being a fun, compact, transportable solo and 2 player game. It won't see masses of expansions or new cards. What is included and may be included via stretch goals have all been play tested to the nth degree. If we burn through the planned Stretches we won't rush out any others.
"The next day I was going to set up a different game to play, but I ended up setting up Pocket Landship instead. And that is when I knew that this game was a hidden gem." - Cardboard Clash - Review for One
"[Pocket Landship] is a great game to pass the time whenever you have a moment to spare."- Stidjen Plays Solo Blog
"Such a great solo game. I originally reviewed it 2 years ago. It's now even better and so hard to win. Thrilling to play." - Glenn Flaherty, Boardgames & Bourbon.
“Pocket Landship may be one of the best PNP (print and play) games I’ve encountered.” - Glenn Flaherty, Boardgames & Bourbon.

Comments from BoardGameGeek.com players on the P&P version:
"This is a great little [game] that I can throw down with limited space/time and still feel like I have a full game experience." - Hexgnome13
"Fast, modular, and full of decisions." - Rseater
"My sessions seem to involve more and more plays at a time ... which is a very good sign of course. I am still having a lot fun trying to get a higher win percentage. I am sure I will be playing this a lot more .... This is better than many small games commercially available on the market imho. Very happy I found this, kudos to the designer for making this interesting little solo game! " - Olafslomp
Pocket Landship started as a '9 card game' designed for the BoardGameGeek.com design contest in 2017. It won 1st place for Best Wargame, and 3rd place for best overall (hence a Golden Geek Award). Since then, Pocket Landship has had over 800 recorded plays on BoardGameGeek.com from over 100 different players. People from 26 countries around the world have played, rated, and/or commented on the game on BoardGameGeek.com.
In other words, the core of Pocket Landship has been well tested and improved over the last two years. This expanded Kickstarter version of the game has been developed and thoroughly tested over the last 6 months.
And, if you want to play the original, "classic" 9 card version of the game, go ahead. Grab 3 player cards, 6 enemy cards, and some dice for a take anywhere, shorter version of Pocket Landship.
Try the Print and Play here.
The game contains everything you need to play solo and 2 player co-op.
- 6 action dice (16mm), in solo games, typically 3 action dice are rolled each turn
- 12 tracking dice (12mm) used to track damage on each card
- Rule book, including solo play, 2 player cooperative mode, and a 6 game solo campaign
Unlocked by this campaign:
- In total we have increased the card count to 56, including 2 exclusives, plus upgraded card stock from 300 to 350gsm and all dice.
Set-up: Choose your Landship hull, cannon, and sponsons, choose your landship commander which provides you with a one-time use bonus action. Then, set up 9 enemy units laid out on a 3x3 grid, with only the front 3 face up.
1) Roll 3 dice, assign one to each part of your landship to attack the enemy or repair your landship. Choose when to use your commander’s one-time use ability. Earn additional one-time use advantages for every two enemy mechs you destroy.
2) For the enemy’s turn, simply roll 3 dice and assign them left to right, low to high and carry out specified actions.
3) For every 2 enemy mechs you destroy, earn an advantage card, which provides you with a one-time use bonus action.
Destroy all enemy units to win the game.

All Stretch Goals are now complete! Thank you to all! But if you fancy contributing to the social ones, here are the links:
- To save at least 20% on the MSRP/RRP of the game when it hits retail
- To get the unlocked Kickstarter freebies
- New art. We would like to commission art for all the enemy Mech, Artillery and Troops
Scott Allen Czysz (pronounced chish) has been designing games since 2015. His games are usually entered in Boardgamegeek.com’s print and play design contests which are great opportunities to design to constraints, and interact, learn, and get great feedback from serious gamers and designers from all over the world. Thanks to my fellow geeks who have inspired me, taught me, and provided feedback.
Based on past experience (of us and others), we will be charging shipping after the Kickstarter concludes based on the actual costs incurred to ship. We will collect this via our pledge manager after the campaign ends. This is so we can be fair to all our backers (shipping is rarely one size fits all). We will ship your rewards at our cost to our international hubs. Depending on where in the world you are, we will either ship to you from our hub in the USA (NA and some ROW backers), or the UK (EU & ROW backers). As a rough estimate,
- UK: £2 (Royal Mail 2nd class 'signed for') (with a play mat and or a wooden box £4)
- EU/US/CA: £5 (with a play mat and or a wooden box £7)
- Rest of the world: £8 (with a play mat and or a wooden box £11).
Please note that while we do our best to get you your rewards in a timely manner and at the best delivery cost we can, you may not necessarily receive your rewards before the product makes it into distribution in your own country or before it's made available in conventions and special promotion opportunities. We hope that the special price and exclusive items you will get during the Kickstarter will make up for any such possible lag. However, if this is something that is not acceptable to you, please do not back this project, and instead wait for the retail release. Thank you for your understanding.
A really good question! Word Forge Games is a growing company, of which more and more gamers are becoming aware, but we are still small. Kickstarter is one of the best marketing tools out there and is the best way for us to get the upfront investment to make the game happen.
Once the Kickstarter has finished, we will work our socks off to complete all the stretch goals and any add-ons offered. When they are complete, we will open a Pledge Manager to allow you to select your add-ons and confirm your shipping address. We also promise to update you on our progress on a weekly basis.
Risks and challenges
Word Forge Games has now run 6 successful Kickstarters, ranging from very small to large sized. We always fulfil. This is a relatively small project and we and Scott have already got the entire game designed and play-tested, so this will not be required after the campaign. There will be some art requirement and possibly a very small amount of new cards, but both Scott and Word Forge Games are in agreement that this project should stay pocket-sized, so a massive bloated project will not happen. We as a company have manufacturing solutions in place, whether this be a 100 unit KS or a million.
We have a clear plan how to complete this project and all aspects are in our control or the control of well tested and established partners, and we are fully confident we can ensure these occur in a time-appropriate manner and we will do our utmost to drive the other parts and partners on a daily basis.
As with any Kickstarter, if lots of Stretch Goals are unlocked, work amount increases. We have accounted for this, but please be aware that a massively over target campaign may affect completion date.
