There are thousands of charging cables on the market for the iPhone and iPad but many of them are Apple knockoffs that are poor quality, uncertified and stop working after Apple release an iOS software update.
We wanted to produce an amazing looking high quality cable with added functional features that was so well made that we could offer a lifetime guarantee. We also wanted to be able to offer all of this but still at a great price.
The Quickdraw cable:
- Crafted from silver anodised aluminium
- Woven cable for strength and to reduce tangling
- Built in magnetic cable tidy
- Finished with laser etched mirror graphics
- Compatible with all Lightning equipped 8 pin iPhones, iPads and iPods
- Apple MFI Certified
- 1 metre / 3 feet long
- Lifetime guarantee
- Check out the amazing stretch goals below
Style & Build Quality
We are working with an Apple MFI certified factory to manufacture the Quickdraw cable using only premium parts. From the silver anodised plugs with beautiful mirror finished laser etched graphics to the woven silver cable flex that will not tangle. The 8 pin Lightning connector is Apple certified so you can be 100% confident the Quickdraw cable will always work with your iPhone or iPad now and in the future.
The Quickdraw cable has the 8 pin connector, electronics, cable and woven sheath moulded together to produce an incredibly strong and durable plug. This is important as the plug and cable connection is a common failure point for charging cables.
This is then combined with top quality materials to create a cable that has an amazing overall build quality.
Built In Cable Tidy
We have incorporated an amazing and simple cable tidy that stops the annoying habit of charging cables falling down the back of your desk, night stand or sideboard.
Just stick the tiny (15mm) self adhesive disk to any surface where you want your Quickdraw cable to stay put. Then when your Quickdraw cable is not being used just drop it on to the steel disk and it will be held in place with the power of a simple magnet. Your charging cable is waiting and ready to go, hence the name Quickdraw. Super simple but oh so handy!
As we are using a magnet you can actually stick the Quickdraw cable to any steel surface.
We are so confident in the Quickdraw cable that we are offering a lifetime guarantee. If you ever have a problem then drop us a line and we will replace the cable free of charge. Of course this doesn't cover excessive wear and tear or if Apple decide to stop making or certifying Lightning cables.
The Quickdraw cable is compatible with all Apple devices that have an 8 pin Lightning connector.
- iPhone 5S
- iPhone 5C
- iPhone 5
- iPad Air
- iPad 4th Generation
- iPad Mini 1st & 2nd Generation
- iPod Touch 5th Generation
Due to popular demand we have now included a reward for a 2 metre / 6.5ft extra long cable. This will be exactly the same as the cable in the video but longer!
However due to minimum order quantities we will only be offering this in Silver even though we have hit the £15,000 stretch goal. In addition at this stage our manufacturers do not think a longer cable would meet MFI certification if it included an LED indicator. Therefore the LED will not be included if we hit the £40,000 stretch goal. This however will be reviewed closer to manufacturing and if it can be included then we will.
If you would like a 2 metre cable please select the £20 Pledge Level and pledge at least £20 for the first extra long cable and £18 for every additional cable. So if you want two cables then please pledge £38.
If you would also like a 1 metre cable then please select the £20 pledge level and then add £13 for every additional 1 metre cable.
If non of this makes sense then please drop us a message and we will sort you out.
This is where things get super exciting!
£15,000 - Gold and Space Grey Versions
In addition to Silver we will also produce the Quickdraw cable in Gold and Space Grey to perfectly match the iPhone and iPad colours. We have the designs and colours ready to go but we just need to place an even bigger order to get these great colours. If we raise £15,000 then you will be asked which colour you would like before we place the production order.
£40,000 - Charging Indicator Light
We will add a charging indicator light into the Lightning plug so that you can easily tell from across the room when your iPhone or iPad is fully charged.
Like the power cable for the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air the LED will glow orange when charging and green when your device is fully charged. This has never been done on an MFI certified Lightning cable so we would love to implement this! As this is an MFI certified cable this is of course dependant on Apple approving this design.
Free Worldwide Shipping
The extra cost of shipping is a pain especially when it is international, so we have incorporated it into the price. We have lots of experience in shipping orders all over the globe. We have shipping companies and accounts already in place and have plans to handle the extra demand. Remember wherever you are in the world, express shipping is free.
The story so far...
We started looking into a new cable design over a year ago as we found that iPhone charging cables just seemed to stop working after a few months or fell apart. We then went through months of testing and reviewing cables from dozens of manufacturers looking at not only how they worked but also how they were put together and manufactured. At the end of this we concluded that the problems were caused by one or more of the following:
- Not using Apple certified Lightning plugs. With each software update Apple attempts to block any non certified plug designs.
- Plug housings that were not glued or moulded together.
- Limited cable strain relief where the cable and plug are joined.
- Poor quality materials leading to broken plastic or snapped internal wires.
- Poor manufacturing quality leading to failed circuit boards and chips in the Lightning plug.
We then started working with numerous cable manufacturers to identify a far tougher and better quality cable design. We found the key to this was to have a moulded plug incorporating all the Lightning connector electronics and cable flex. This resulted in a very tough plug which we have extensively tested.
We also wanted a cable that looked great, so we looked at the best accessories on the market for the iPhone and iPad and took design clues from them. Look, feel and function were all key to creating a product that was just right in the hands of the customer and ultimately one that we would be proud of.
The next steps...
If the campaign is successful then we expect to be delivering cables to backers 3 to 4 months after the campaign ends. If the indicator light stretch goal is achieved then this will extend out to 5 months as there will need to be extra time to get the LED and electronics ready for production.
A large chunk of the development time is taken up with the 30 day Apple MFI Certification process. We cannot start production until this is achieved in case Apple demand changes.
We have added in contingency to each task and a 2 week block before delivery starts. We are confident that we can hit this plan taking into account timings we have had on previous products. We will of course aim to dovetail as many tasks together as possible to reduce the timeline.
I want more than 1 cable
We have had lots of requests from people that want to pledge for more than one cable. We have therefore added some additional reward levels for 2, 4 and 10 cables. In addition at any reward level you can add £13 for each additional cable .
£10 Pledge level - add an extra £13 for two (2) cables. Total £23
£12 Pledge level - add an extra £13 for two (2) cables. Total £25
£15 Pledge level - add an extra £13 for two (2) cables. Total £28
Please contact us if you have any specific pledge requests.
Why are we using Kickstarter?
We want to engage with our customers and find out exactly what they want. Kickstarter allows us to have that conversation with you before we hit the manufacturing button. Maybe you want a different length cable, for the colours to slightly change or a little tag to hold the cable when it is rolled up.
Well now you can tell us what you want and we will do our best to incorporate it.
Who is Woodford Design?
Woodford Design has been running since 2011 and in that time we have successfully brought 10 products to market, right through the design, manufacture and retail phases. We have sold 10,000's of products to happy customers right across the globe. We have the experience, manufacturing contacts, and shipping knowledge to bring the Quickdraw cable to market.
You can check out our other products and happy customer reviews at www.woodforddesign.com
Communication - Our promise to you
When looking at other successful Kickstarter projects it becomes clear that many have ongoing issues before they are completed. It is also clear that this becomes massively frustrating to backers when there is a lack of communication and updates. This frustration is completely understandable so we promise to give a weekly update on how the project is going. We also promise to reply to all your emails within 48hrs as well as to questions left on Kickstarter. As communication is so important, as it is your money we are using, we have set aside a dedicated person who will deal with just replying to your questions.
Risks and challenges
Whenever you are manufacturing things from scratch there is always the risk of delays. We are mitigating this by using an Apple certified manufacturer who produces 100,000 of cables per year. They know the manufacturing process inside out. However, there is always the chance that something might come along and bite us.
As we are producing an Apple MFI certified cable there is always the chance that Apple may find issue and ask for things to be changed. We believe the chance of this is low as the manufacture knows the MFI certification process very well.
As the inclusion of an indicator light has not been done before on an MFI cable this does add some extra complexity that may cause delays. However, we are actively working on this additional function with the manufacturer before the campaign ends.
Too many backers
This one might sound odd, but if we have too many backers then there might be a slight delay in shipping whilst we deal with the manufacturing setup and quality control for the extra cables. However, we will start to send batches of cables out as quickly as possible, even before the full manufacturing run has been completed.
