Lightning - Apple MFi certified Lightning connector for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5/5S, iPhone 5c, iPad Air 1,2, iPad 2,3,4, iPad Mini, iPod Touch.
Micro USB - Micro USB is found on almost every other device that isn’t Apple. Android, Blackberry, and Windows phones and tablets. Samsung Galaxy, Google Nexus, Amazon Kindle & Fire, Motorola, Nokia and HTC.
USB Type C - The latest connector type and the one that everything will be moving to. Double sided and able to handle power, video and fast data transfer. This is the future. Currently on the new Macbook, Chromebook Pixel, Nokia N1 tablet with more devices being announced on an almost daily basis.
After the Kickstarter campaign has ended we will send out a survey where you will be able to select your connector type.
See the light. We are the only company that has been able to incorporate a charging indicator LED into a MFi certified Lightning plug so you can see at a glance when your phone or tablet is fully charged. The LED glows ORANGE when charging and glows GREEN when your device is fully charged.
This is completely unique and will be especially loved by the new MacBook owners as Apple have not included it on their latest USB Type C charging cable.
Which way do you plug this cable in? Any way! A reversible USB has been the most requested feature and we have finally been able to get MFi approval so have now been able to include it in the Quickdraw 2.0. Now your cable will always plug in first time and every time. No more fumbling behind your computer or with your wall plug. This is a very little and simple thing but Oh! does it make life easier. We promise you will love this.
Improved magnetic cable tidy now clips onto the cable and attaches to a new mounting disc that can be stuck almost anywhere. The mounting disk comes with a sticky micro suction base allowing it to be stuck to almost any surface and repositioned as many times as you like.
This is a great way to keep your cable under control so it is there ready when you need it. No more cables falling down the back of your desk.
The Quickdraw 2.0 cable combines the finest materials to create a charging cable like no other. Working with an Apple MFi certified factory we have brought together anodised aluminium plugs, laser etched graphics and a tangle free woven flex to produce an amazing looking cable that not only looks the part but is built from the ground up to be super tough. We are so proud of the Quickdraw 2.0 cable that we have backed it with a lifetime guarantee.
After the Kickstarter campaign has ended we will send out a survey where you will be able to select your colour choice.
- 1m / 3 ft - Standard length perfect for nearly every occasion be it at home in the office or charging in the car.
- 2m / 6 ft - Extra long to reach that tucked away plug so you can carry on playing when your device is charging. Just add £3 per cable to your pledge.
The Quickdraw 2.0 cable has been designed from the ground up to be tough and to last a lifetime. Every element has been looked at and strengthened to produce a cable that we are proud to stand behind and that has an amazing overall build quality.
The Quickdraw 2.0 cable has the connector, electronics, cable and woven sheath moulded together to produce an incredibly strong and durable plug. This is a common failure point for many charging cables.
- Extra thick cable flex for strength
- Braided sheath to stop tangling and cable cracking
- Extra long strain reliefs
- Injection moulded electronics
- Cable and plug moulded together for extra strength
We are so confident in the strength and durability of the Quickdraw 2.0 cable that we stand behind it with a lifetime guarantee. Any problems, just drop us a line and we will get you sorted. As you would expect this doesn't cover excessive wear and tear (my dog ate my cable) or if Apple decide to stop making or certifying Lightning cables.
The Lightning plug version of the Quickdraw 2.0 cable is fully MFi certified and comes with a genuine Apple supplied Lightning connector so you can be 100% confident the Quickdraw 2.0 cable will always work with your iPhone or iPad now and in the future.
We already have MFi certification in place for the Quickdraw 2.0 cable so there are no further signoffs required from Apple.
We have also pre-ordered a batch of 1000's of Lightning connectors to help reduce the lead time.
We have completed numerous tasks to get the Quickdraw 2.0 cable ready for production. All the development tasks are complete and we have tested many processes during the production run for the first version of the Quickdraw 2.0 cable.
In 2014 we launched the original Quickdraw Cable on Kickstarter and it went down a storm and with the help of our great backers we smashed our funding target by 460%.
That was when the hard work and fun started. It proved far more difficult than first thought by both us and our MFi certified factories to actually get the Quickdraw cable produced. We hit a number of roadblocks including the launch of the iPhone 6 with Apple grabbing the worldwide supply of official Lightning connectors and the extremely restrictive and slow MFi process.
We ended up having all the parts tested, production prototypes signed off and MFi certification, but were still waiting for Apple to deliver our order of Lightning connectors. We then had one of our factories lose their MFi certification and go bankrupt so we had to switch production and under MFi certification rules had to start the whole MFi certification process again for the 2m cable.
Finally the Lighting connectors came through and after great patience from our backers we were able to start shipping cables in February with the 2m cables being fulfilled in April.
The great news is that backers have loved the original Quickdraw cable and it has gone down a storm with its great looks and super tough strength. 90% of our backers have said they would back another Woodford Design Kickstarter campaign.
We have learned a ton over the last year and all of this has been fed into the Quickdraw 2.0.
What we learned:
- MFi certification takes a long time to be achieved and is not a simple process.
- Official Lightning connectors are not easy to come by and the lead-time is huge, 12 weeks is normal.
- The mass production of parts often creates headaches and issues arise.
- A factory might be able to produce prototypes perfectly and quickly but the first production run throws up numerous quality issues that need ironing out.
- Lots of parcels go missing and are stolen or tampered with and if possible it is best to send with tracking even though the cost is considerably higher.
- A lot of people move house and change their address.
- It’s amazing how supportive and patient backers are.
How are we different from other Kickstarter campaigns?:
- We tell the truth and do not hide issues or problems.
- We will send out fortnightly updates, some people have actually complained we communicate too much!
- We have actually delivered a successful campaign and have 1000’s of happy backers.
- We already have our MFi certification in place.
- We already have a factory and production line in place.
- All parts have already been produced in production volumes.
- We have already proved we can fulfil and ship 1000’s of orders.
- 90% of our backers have said they would back another Woodford Design Kickstarter campaign.
Risks and challenges
We learnt loads from the original Quickdraw cable project and have implemented as much as we can beforehand to ensure that lead times are far better. See section above.
We are confident that we have put lots in place to ensure a better and faster delivery of the end product to backers.
However we are always dependant on Apple, changes to the MFi programme and the supply of official Lightning connectors.
Micro USB and USB Type C cables are not affected by this and at this stage we cannot see any issue with the manufacture of these. Of course bar a supplier going out of business or a ship sinking!
With all the cables there is always the risk of a supplier being slow to deliver parts or packaging and unfortunately the cables are made of parts from multiple suppliers. However we are using suppliers that we have used in the past and all have proved they can deliver.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
