Everything Is Wonderful...or is it really?
At one point or another we've all found ourselves lost and dissatisfied, even when everything should be fine. Here’s the story.
We follow two friends, Lena (Pia Mechler) and Maria (Tonia Sotiropoulou) during one week in the summer as they test the limits of their freedom and friendship. Living a life without financial burdens, Lena becomes increasingly bored with her seemingly perfect life in her beautiful Brooklyn apartment. Maria is unsatisfied with her stressful job as a waitress and her unfulfilled dreams of being an actress. After Lena discovers her husband cheating, Maria and Lena begin a week of crazy partying. Whenever they are together, they seem happy. Whenever they are apart, their lack of symbiosis fails them. They drink and party, make out with random men, sleep in the same bed and mimic each other’s behaviors. Lena and Maria end up in the Hamptons where everything takes an unexpected turn.
WONDERFILM PRODUCTIONS are Stephanie Angel, Kim Dang and Pia Mechler. We met through mutual friends and soon discovered that even though we came from different fields within the film industry, we all shared the passion for a certain kind of filmmaking. We started our company last summer with the goal of creating thought provoking, entertaining films with strong female roles that appeal to large audiences. Our goal is to strengthen female images in the film industry and move away from stereotypes.
Stephanie has been working in the film business for almost 15 years as a writer, director, producer and script supervisor. Most recently she script supervised the NBC series The Blacklist. She is the Founder of Angelight Films, a NPO which produces short films with children who have brain tumors. Kim holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics and a degree in Film Studies. Kim was an organizer and programmer of the Oscar-qualified International short film festival Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur for over 6 years. Pia has worked in the film business for over 10 years. After graduating from the acclaimed European Film College she started working as an actress in the German and UK film industry. Before joining the team as an Associate Producer, Emiko worked internationally in the fields of social justice, law, international relations, and event management.
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT by a WOMEN-LED FILM PRODUCTION COMPANY: As women in the film business, we are still extremely under represented. We want to make a difference behind the scenes, but also change the female stereotypes in front of the camera. Everything is Wonderful is WONDERFILM PRODUCTIONS’ first project in this endeavor and you can be part of it!
What else are we talking about? In the Western world, we are often born into a society with an abundance of opportunities and we are at times overwhelmed by them. Are we giving in to disruption and distraction, because it is the easier way? Are we getting lost in our passiveness or do we actively seek out happiness and fulfillment and appreciate what has been given to us? Are we ready to treat our freedom with the responsibility that it deserves?
Why is there no script? Improvisation helps create honest and truthful dialogue. It also allows the filmmaker to be surprised and create moments that are unexpected. While we only have an outline script, the film is fully storyboarded and well structured. Each scene’s driving force has been laid out and will be rehearsed thoroughly allowing the dialogue to emerge naturally. The cinematography will be dense and artful. The challenge, and at the same time the innovation will be to shoot an improvised movie in a very controlled cinematographic environment. Our two lead actresses Tonia and Pia have been friends for many years, they even shared an apartment at one time, which all translates into a beautiful chemistry on camera.
Here is a little sneak peak for you to give you an idea of our visual style, and the improvisation. You also get to witness a painfully awkward audition experience for Tonia's character Maria...
Since we do not have studio funding we need your help to make this badass film a reality. Your financial support will go straight to the production costs.
We are very lucky to have gathered a highly talented and experienced team of professionals who believe in our project so much so that they are willing to work for us for way less than their usual fees. We are also a recipient of Big Vision Empty Wallet's Kickstart Diversity program, which provides us with discounts from vendors nationwide, allowing us to save money through all stages of production and give you, the donor, more bang for your buck! The program also helps us in building and activating our audience and widely distributing our film.
So with your additional help we can produce and market this amazing movie in a way that you and a large audience can see it and of course be wildly entertained by it!

Risks and challenges
There is a risk that this movie is going to suck and we all end up killing each other due to lack of sleep, patience and money.
However, the probability is as good as zero, because we are professional film people who happen to be friends, who will do this project, because we love the idea, the storyboard and we can’t imagine something better than working with each other.
We are very grateful for everything you give to support us on this journey!
The risks and challenges lie therefore in the unexpected things that will happen during our production and post-production. But since we are doing an improvised movie, we are expecting the unexpected.
Thank you for your support!
