Here's what people are saying about Wolffepack:
"I bought the Escape Backpack specifically to use whilst Skiing in the French Alpes in December 2015. It performed particularly when I swung it to my front so that I could sit comfortably on a chair-lift without leaning forward (something I have done for the last 25 years until this smart piece of product design came along!). I would thoroughly recommend any skier who likes to ski with a back-pack - go get the Wolffepack!" - N.H., UK, 2016
"In the past I have had to take my rucksack off to get on chairlifts, or try to hook it above the back of the chair. With this backpack it was just a matter of letting it down and swinging it around to the front. At the top of the lift, after coming off, I just pull it back up. Easy! My friends were really impressed." - D.E. UK, 2016
"The bag was excellent for skiing with. I had admiring looks from other skiers who were using traditional rucksacks. Would I recommend the bag? Most definitely." - A.G. UK, 2016
12 features combined in the Wolffepack Summit
1. Unique Access System
The Wolffepack patented orbital trapeze technology gives you a uniquely easy backpack experience. It's easy off, easy on, easy access.
Why bother? It's easy enough to take off a backpack, right? Well, we decided to compare directly the experience and time taken to remove and replace the Wolffepack Summit compared to a conventional backpack. On your marks......
2. Easier, quicker and more comfortable chairlifts
The Wolffepack system makes chairlifts so much easier. Simply swing the bag round to your front and hook it there.
Sit in comfort right back in your seat, without being forced to perch nervously on the edge of the chair, and enjoy the view!
Then just pull it up once you've left the lift, without stopping, without missing a moment.
3. Hydration capability
The Wolffepack back harness is the perfect place to carry a hydration bladder. We've created a pocket integrated into the harness, just right for a bladder up to 2L. There are 2 velcro tabs to locate and retain the bladder itself where it stays stable, close to the body, and means that you don't have any water weight in the pack section of the bag.
4. In-built back protection comes free
The unique Wolffepack orbital design has been further enhanced to offer built-in back protection as part of the system. Our design combines alternate light but tough, hard and soft layers to create a laminated construction that protects your back. In 5 layers we use alternately aircell foam and tough polymers to form a composite protector that combines hard shell resistance with soft-layer impact absorption. We've been to an internationally recognised testing lab and the results show that we have achieved a significant level of back protection, comparable to the recognised European standard EN1621 Level 1 for the central back area. Over the next few weeks, we will be working towards getting full certification.
5. Fleece-lined goggle pocket
Keep your goggles or glasses protected and accessible in our custom-designed goggle pocket. It's lined with microfibre fabric to keep your lenses flawless.
6. Stability waistbelt
We've added a wide, secure waist belt to the Summit so the pack is stable for vigorous activity. The belt comes with loop keepers to make sure the ends of the straps stay nice and neat.
7. Chest strap with SOS emergency whistle
For full stability there is an adjustable chest strap. An SOS emergency whistle comes integrated - just in case. The chest strap is also removable if necessary.
8. Ski carry system
For those moments when you need to walk that extra distance or reach that perfect snow off-piste, we've added the capability to carry the skis on your back. Simply stabilise the main pack, attach one ski to either side of the pack, as pictured, and keep your hands free with the skis comfortably stowed behind you.
9. Avalanche Kit Space
Internal pocket sized for snow shovel and probe
10. Waterproof zips and weather protection
Water-resistant PUx2 coated nylon and diamond polyester textiles combined with waterproof zips mean the Wolffepack Summit is ready for most weather.
11. Organised carry
The main compartment contains a sleeve for a 13 inch laptop or documents and a zippered cargo net for wallet, pens, phone or any small items you need to hand.
12. Security pocket
The hydration bladder pocket in the back harness doubles as a security pocket when travelling. The zip is concealed against your back, totally hidden from thieves.
Plus, these extra features:
Side Pockets
Expandable side pockets for water bottles, small items or any extra, last minute gear.
Reflectors
Three reflective strips give added night time visibility. The lower, central strip, allows for carabiner or helmet attachment.
Glove-friendly top handle
At Wolffepack we like to focus on the details. The Summit's top handle is extra wide to ensure an easy grab, even when wearing thick gloves. The performance zipper pulls are glove-friendly too.
Fidlock docking system
The Wolffepack system incorporates Fidlock's unique and ingenious neodymium magnet docking system, ensuring that the handle is easy to grab when you need it, and stowed securely when you don't.

The Wolffepack Access System:
- leading technology and materials
The Wolffepack Summit uses our patented technology - the expetoSYSTEM. With a heritage drawn from the worlds of mountaineering, sailing and the military, we have used a combination of materials and invention that has revolutionised backpack design.
The bag is held totally stable on the back by 3 super-strong cords at different points, so that it cannot swing or move until the moment you choose to release it.
It is strong and easy to use
Can a backpack be securely held by cord? Yes, absolutely! We've designed for strength and stability.
3 cords (not just one) anchored at separate points on the bag keep it totally stable and securely held to your back when raised, without any swinging the cords can pull a load of over 300kg, more than enough for a typical backpack Dyneema cords are tough and it's a material used by the military for ballistic protection. It's a simple and easy operation to use the Wolffepack backpack.
Safety and the Mountains
We think about and care about safety as a top priority. We know that mountains, speed, weather and mechanical equipment, like chairlifts, need to be respected at all times. That's why we have some simple and obvious but important things to say about using the Wolffepack around the mountain. We recommend, as with all aspects of skiing, users must exercise great caution when getting on and off ski lifts. You should make sure the Wolffepack is held securely to your front before getting on a ski lift, and it is not left freely hanging. When exiting a ski lift, it is very important to ski fully clear of the lift before allowing the Wolffepack to swing behind the body or bringing the Wolffepack back up on to your back. It is not advisable to release the pack at all when moving at speed. Wolffepack isn't a toy and wasn't designed for children, just to be clear.
The original development process
Wolffepack started out 15 years ago as just an idea, born out of watching a postman struggle to get repeated access to the letters in a sack on his back. Personal frustrations with the backpack over the years led to the belief that there had to be a better way to carry stuff, but still get quick and easy access to it.
It moved from being just an idea, to initial sketches:
Eventually, with the help of the Kickstarter community in November 2014, an idea about how to reinvent the backpack came to life and the Wolffepack backpack was born, and now has thousands of users in over 30 countries and design awards across 3 continents.
About the creator
David Wolffe has an Engineering degree from Cambridge University, and is a lifelong backpack user and photography enthusiast, whether travelling, commuting, skiing, or corralling his 3 kids.
Project timetable
We have already worked closely with our manufacturing partners to build thousands of Wolffepack Metros and Escapes (our first styles). We've also created with them a number of prototypes leading to finished Summit samples that we love. Once Kickstarter quantities are clear, we can begin the production process. We expect that the first bags should be ready to ship to your doors during January 2017.
The following timetable is planned:
- October/November 2016: Kickstarter Campaign
- November 2016: Confirm order with factory
- November 2016: Order materials and components
- early December 2016: Production commences
- late December 2016: Finished units start journey to warehouse
- January 2017: Final last-leg dispatch to Kickstarter backers
Risques et défis
We've already run and delivered a successful Kickstarter so we know a little about how to deliver a project.
We've built thousands of Wolffepacks so the technology is already working on a volume and large scale basis.
The risks to delivery of the project are limited in nature due to the huge amount of development and planning that has already taken place.
Working prototypes have been in testing for several months and have passed threshold tests.
The design is now ready for production and all specifications have been signed off. Samples of the Wolffepack Summit have been manufactured but in units only. The transition now is into scale production.
