Two bearded slightly overweight men, one in Japan and one in Italy, had a dream.
That dream was to see all old wargaming miniatures with shields they could be proud of. Not only good shields, but shields which made you stop, stare, and say “phwoar!”
Their powers combined to create the unstoppable ShieldWall project!
Alessio applied his considerable sculpting skills to producing the shields, Mustafa whipped out his pencils and designed the inserts.
The orc/goblin and dwarf designs are merely the beginning! By the time the Kickstarter is done, fingers crossed, there will be designs for a whole range of races and factions, all free to download for those of discerning taste that choose to back our humble project.
The inserts will be scaled perfectly to fit with your shields, so it’s just a matter of cutting them out and gluing them in with PVA glue. While decals or transfers might be easier (really not a fan myself) the aim was to make these available for free to all backers, so downloadable PDFs seemed the least hassle. Logistically it would have been a pain in the posterior to do it any other way as this Kickstarter will involve three people, in three different countries, all handling different aspects of the project.
The shields will be cast from resin and will be comparable in size to the old Citadel ones. Doff of the cap to David Smith for pointing out that school boy error ;)
here below you can see their dimensions.
During the course of this Kickstarter, as stretch goals are unlocked, there will be more and more designs being drawn up based on feedback from the backers. Your input will help guide the look of this project, so be sure to let us know what you think will looks good!
As you can see, the shields are done and the inserts will be drawn throughout the Kickstarter so we basically have the finished product. The reason we need the funding is to have the moulds made.
The aim is to have one mould for each shape of shield so that we can cast up more exact numbers and give backers the freedom to choose as many shields of as many types as they like.
Upon completion, backers will be able to choose exactly which types of shields they want.
Shield design 3 and 4 will unlock along with Wood Elf and Evil Elf designs. Again, these will be free to download and print off.
Shield 5 and 6 with Chaos and Imperial Human designs. These will also be free to download and print off.
A triangle shaped shield and kite shield along with rat men and noble knight design. Free of course to download and print off.
Coffin shaped shield and square Aztec style shield with undead and lizardmen designs
All shields with and without holes.
Gruffo “lefty” Oakhill and Warhamster
The lands of the little people are places of peace, tranquility, and great natural beauty. There’s nothing a halfling loves better than a good meal, a good feed, and a roll in the hay!
On occasion, even they must attend the call to arms and match to war in defence of hearth and home.
Gruffo “lefty” Oakhill is twho they turn to in such times of need. As strong and sturdy as the tree he is named for, Oakhill has fought against many goblin warbands and gnoll war parties.
If we manage to reach this stretch goal, he will become available as an add-on. Alessio will handle the sculpting and I will take care of the halfling shield inserts.
Gruffo and Warhamster will be single combined miniature (Warhamster will be attached to his left leg), and will cost €5.
3d shields as add on for €5
Gnashgob the Unruly € 5
Mad-Eye Dragobane € 5

Risks and challenges
There are no risks involved with this as the shields have been made, the inserts have been started and will be done by the end of the project, and we have a caster lined up.
The only challenge will be to get them to you in a timely fashion.
As they are quite simple in design and shape, they should not take long to cast up, but without knowing how many backers there’ll be it’s hard to give an estimate of how long it’ll take to get thr products to you.
As soon as Kickstarter has released the funds, production will start immediately so hopefully you will all have your shields in a matter of a few months.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
