We are Wolf and Crow, an independent San Francisco based folk duo seeking to raise funds for our first complete album: "Folklore."
HELLO & WELCOME to the campaign to fund the making of our first complete album: Wolf & Crow “Folklore.” As you read this we are preparing for one of the most important events of our lives, and ten years in the making. If you have made it this far, consider taking that extra step and making this possible for us, and in turn, providing you with the music you love.
This is how it works. PREORDER the album today and simultaneously make its creation possible. That's right, You buy the album, and that becomes our resource to make the album. Not a bad idea, right? Of course, you can always maximize your impact power and choose a higher donation level to receive one of our many thank you gift packages. The downside for us is, if we do not reach our goal, your donation will remain in your bank account and the project is not funded.
Your contributions will be carefully employed toward the costs of recording, mixing, mastering, and packaging this album. Thanks to Kickstarter and the web, there is no longer the colossal gap between musicians and their community, which means no expensively dressed middlemen pocketing the lion's share, and no broke musicians crying to VH1 Behind the Music about how the record label screwed them. Penny for penny, you are supporting only this project 100%.
Inspired by the field recordings of mid-century blues and gospel songs made by John and Ruby Lomax in 1939 for the Library of Congress, we are striving for a sound that both breathes with life and incorporates the place it is recorded into the white noise of the track. For this reason, we we will be recording in a one hundred year old brick building in the heart of San Francisco (once an automobile repair garage for some of the earliest cars on the road) with our small professional team and state of the art equipment to capture a truly unique and authentic sound. Finally, the audio mastering process will ensure that wherever you are listening to our music - whether in your car, headphones, or through the speakers in your living room - it will sound impeccable.
Packaging is often a foreign animal to musicians, but not to us; we put as much thought into that as we do our music. In our professional lives we are both graphic designers, and one of our main concerns is not wanting to manufacture something that will only add to our already massive waste problem on earth. This is why we will not be distributing our album on compact disc, but making a CD-sized booklet with a link and code so you can download the album directly to your digital music library. And for those music lovers keeping it real out there, we will also be offering the album on vinyl. To learn more about why vinyl is a more eco-friendly option to CDs, check out this article.
