This two volume set covers the complete history of the largest and longest running city art project in the world – and it was all dedicated to Charles Schulz, the creator of the comic strip PEANUTS. This campaign is to publish Vol. 1 (just to get things off and running). However, based on the success of this campaign, Vol. 2 will either be right behind or published simultaneously.
PEANUTS On Parade was not only the biggest tribute to PEANUTS creator, Charles Schulz, but was the largest and longest running city art project of its kind in the world. Hosted by St. Paul, MN (2000-04) & Santa Rosa, CA (2005-07, '10), over five million fans from all 50 states and over 60 different countries searched for nearly 800 unique and individually designed 5’ statues of the Peanuts gang; each year featuring a different character.

It all began as a modest tribute and was only slated to run for a single year. But the public demand was so overwhelming, it continued to run in St. Paul for another 4 years. After that, the tribute moved to Santa Rosa, California, home of the Charles Schulz Museum, where it ran for another 3 continuous years through 2007 then an “encore” year in 2010. Each year wrapped up with an auction in which several statues went up for bids, each selling for thousands of dollars. The money raised paid for permanent bronze statues in both St. Paul and Santa Rosa, and began an art scholarship program in Schulz name at the art school he once attended and taught.
From the first discussions in the Mayor’s office, to the final sale at the 2010 auction, every step of PEANUTS on Parade is contained in this book. I’m the only person to take photos of each and every statue (some of which have never been on public display). From there, I spent hundreds of hours conducting and writing approximately 500 interviews with those involved. Artists, sponsors, and local and national celebrities were most important to get the stories behind statues and the project itself. Each year begins with an introduction which consists of all relevant information. Some examples are how each character was chosen, what made each summer unique, a timeline of events and auction results. Followed by the introduction are all of the statues from the respective year. A photo is accompanied with the name, artist(s), sponsor, location the statue was on display, whether it was kept by the sponsor or what it sold for at auction, current location if known, and the statue’s story. The stories behind each statue came directly from the artists, sponsors, or both whenever possible. They are often personal, heart-warming, comical or informational. But they always prove to be fun and interesting. On several occasions, I added personal research which allowed for historic facts to slide in where applicable. This campaign's goal is to get enough funds for Vol. 1. If funds go over the top, that money will go towards Vol 2, Depending on the success of this campaign, Vol. 2 may be done down the road or simultaneously.
Each book will have references to the other, but can stand alone. Volume One will have more statues because there were more statues created in St. Paul, but Volume Two contains a bit more information, on average, about each design.
Q & A
Q: Do I have the rights to publish such a book?
A: Yes. I’ve obtained all the legal rights to publish this book without the threat of copyright infringements. Everyone in the Peanuts world has given their blessing and have always been extremely helpful. I couldn’t have written this book without them!

Q: Why Kickstarter?
A: With over 800 photos and almost 150,000 words between the two volumes, it would cost a small fortune to self-publish. I don’t even have a tiny fortune. But I have a wonderful hybrid publisher waiting in the wings to take on this project. So the goal is set to cover the initial cost for them and the expenses for the Backer gifts, awards and purchases during the campaign. If/when I reach my goal, I will most certainly offer stretch goals.
Q: Why is this campaign only for Vol. 1?
This is my 2nd campaign. The first had a higher goal and was unsuccessful. So I've made some adjustments, lowered the goal and trying to simply get the ball rolling. If this campaign is successful, the first stretch goal I announce will be to get both volumes published at the same time - which is my preference. But first things first. Let's reach this goal and take it from there.

Risks and challenges
I want to stress again this campaign is to get Volume One published. If/when a campaign goes over the goal, that money can be used in other ways to benefit backers. My first "stretch goal" will go towards getting Vol. 2 done. If the campaign is successful enough, Volume Two will be done simultaneously.
