My name is Phoebe Atkey and I am a 20-year-old British self-taught illustrator with a distinctive passion for architecture and urban landscapes, in particular drawing them from a high perspective. All my images are drawn by hand, without the use of rulers or computer software.
My book, Wish You Were Here x, is a collection of 30 illustrative, worldwide travel destinations which are perfect for colouring, but it can equally stand-alone as a book of original art.
To thank my followers from across the world on social media I have included illustrations from every continent and I hope I have provided an eclectic mix of holiday destinations. Some are obvious; they are recognisable and well-travelled. Others might be more unusual or less well-known, and perhaps aspirational places to visit.
It was so hard to select 30 great places to visit around the world and I thank everyone on my social media sites for their ideas and inspiration. Additionally, my two cover illustrations, San Francisco on the front and Kyoto on the back, were voted for by my followers on social media.
I hope you like my final choice of destinations. At the end of the book I have included two additional pages, for you to draw either your favourite holiday memory or somewhere you would like to visit one day.
Once the book is published I will set up a gallery on my website to display photos of your "coloured-in" pages and I would love to see as many as possible.
These are the destinations you will travel to in my book:
SAN FRANCISCO, US
BANFF NATIONAL PARK, CANADA
QUEBEC CITY, CANADA
NEW YORK, US
MACHU PICCHU, PERU
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL
MADHYA PRADESH, INDIA
GREAT WALL OF CHINA, CHINA
ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA
PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
Risks and challenges
There are always risks and challenges associated with any new project. I have been planning this book for over 12 months now and have explored various methods for publishing it.
I have a clear idea of how I'd like the book to look and be used. In order to maintain control over design, content and physical book quality, I decided to self-publish using renowned local companies for scanning, layout and printing.
Every illustration is hand-drawn and has been professionally scanned by Flux Framers [www.fluxframing.co.uk]. I have used a local Bournemouth-based digital design agency Strawberry Soup [www.strawberrysoup.co.uk] to create the cover and internal layout.
The book will be printed by L&S Printing [http://www.ls-printing.com/] in Worthing. Once published it will be registered with the British Library with its own ISBN enabling it to be sold worldwide through my website, Amazon and other retailers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
