Thanks to your outstanding support we have reached our goal of £5,000! We are so grateful to all of you for supporting our campaign. It is fantastic to know that we will safely be getting the yurt.
However this project doesn't finish there. Now that we have the yurt we'd love to be able to make it the best yurt out there! The addition we are focusing on at the moment, because we are so close, is getting a double framed door for the opening; this will allow easier disabled access to the yurt.
There are still so many rewards up for grabs and at midnight on Friday the Kickstarter will be finished! So this is your last chance to get behind this fantastic project and maybe make some wonderful memories in the process.
Building Our Futures:
Do you remember when we were kids, we wore coats and mischief on days like this. We made the stories that got them all talking. The beach was our theatre and we played our plays on its sandy stage. We huddled around fire pits and sang songs about lives that we hadn’t lived yet. We slept in tents made of stars and adventures. In early morning we stretched our backs to the land, our toes curled in the sand and skimmed stones in the unknown sea. Every ripple that returned to our feet changed our world forever. Do you remember?
Back then we weren’t scared. Back then we knew everything but understood nothing. But at least we were listening and had something to say. And we knew that if we listened we could learn, that we could share what we heard.
Be Part Of Our Future...
Wise Words, Wide Eyed Theatre and the Gulbenkian are passionate about creating moments that re-awaken wonder - offering you the opportunity to sleep under the stars; the chance to hear from the authors, poets, artists and inspiring speakers in beautiful and intimate settings; the chance to meet like-minded people from all walks of life, to re-imagine, re-discover and re-connect with what 'community' means today. Our work is about creating intimate and inspiring moments that will live in your memory and stay in your hearts forever.
Each year Wise Words have hired a yurt as the venue for their festival and always receive incredible feedback from audiences and artists who are astounded by the beauty of the space but also its ability to 'inspire' and 'nurture' a sense of well-being. Owning a yurt (larger than the one we currently use) would enable us to create many moments of wonder - it would reduce our yearly overheads, allow us to embrace our growing audience and also enable us to take our work on tour across Kent and beyond.
With your support...
...we can perform small miracles with words. But words need actions need anchors, they need to lean on strong shoulders.
A yurt, big enough to hold our growing audiences, to house workshops, to welcome writing and wellbeing focused retreats, would provide us with an inspirational space - a home for our work. It would allow us to reach new audiences, take our work to new places, grow and nurture local talent and widen our offer to span the whole year.
We are three organisations with our spirits in the sky but our feet firmly rooted in the ground.
The warmth, generosity and kindness shown to us by you, our family of friends and supporters has show us that you are the strong shoulders upon which we can stand tall and reach for the stars.
Each donation, large or small, will take us a step closer to owning this beautiful and inspirational hand-crafted Yurt and will be received with tremendous gratitude.
Thanks to your outstanding support we have reached our goal of £5,000! However, this project doesn't finish there. There are many wonderful things we'd like to add onto our yurt, but we need your continued support!
If we can get to £5,450 (SO CLOSE!) we can get a double fronted door on our yurt. This will enable a greater level of disabled access to our yurt. We are very passionate about achieving this goal because our yurt has been funded by so many people from so many different circumstances and we believe everyone should have the ability to enjoy it.
If we can get to £5,550 we will also be able to pay for 75cm diameter windows to watch the world turn from the safety of our yurt.
And more to come!.....

Risks and challenges
A commitment and passion for collaborating with others is at the heart of each of our organisations, but we know that misunderstandings occur even in the strongest of relationships. To ensure that this partnership is a happy one, full to the brim with shared passions and joint ambitions, rather than petty quarrels about who gets to use the Yurt and when, we have a pre-Yurt agreement in place outlining our roles, responsibilities and use of the space.
A yurt of this size costs considerably more than £5000 but we felt that this was a fair and achievable amount to hope for from our community of Friends and Supporters. The Gulbenkian have kindly contributed £2000 towards this campaign and we have submitted an applications to funders including one to Arts Council England. Their support would make up the additional £7000 needed in order to purchase the Yurt. Contributions made by the community, those who will use and enjoy the Yurt, are valued highly by funders who see this support as 'evidence of need'. A successful Kickstarter Campaign will go a long way towards enabling us to leverage these additional funds. The worst case scenario would be that it takes us a little longer than planned to raise the money - but with this slim possibility in mind we have alternative arrangements in place to see us through until next spring.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
