Why Wired In
You are in the zone, headphones on, about to crush the project, when you get the notorious tap on the shoulder.
“It’ll be quick”, they always say.
But it never is. And even if it were, it may take hours before you can get back into the flow. One tap on the shoulder, and your project goes from ‘almost done’ back onto the ‘to do’ list.
Sound familiar? Get Wired In.
We placed working prototypes with a handful of teams large and small. We saw an immediate impact. One company even told us they were holding off hiring new people until they got a new round of signs; Wired In had become fully ingrained in the company culture. Everyone who has used one thus far can’t imagine their workspace without one on their desk. These early testers have helped us refine the design and understand feature implementation for our Kickstarter version.

With open workspaces becoming more common, distractions are ever present. We know; we’ve been there. There are few things worse than being in the middle of code or design and having distractions derail an entire afternoon.
That is why we created Wired In. We love our coworkers, we love foosball, and we love talking about Better Call Saul. There’s a time and place for these distractions. Our friends and co-workers don’t mean to get us off track, so we wanted to create a simple way of letting them know when we are available and when we are not, instead of having awkward or annoyed conversations.
When you want to focus on the task at hand turn on your Wired In sign and put those distractions back where they belong. Send the right message:
With your help we can get our final version produced and available to every desk in every open office around the world.
Features
Wired In has a sleek aluminum base with rounded edges and a clear replaceable laser-etched acrylic sign. We wanted a product that would fit in with our work space, yet not take too much space.
The etched portion of the sign catches the light. You can choose to etch the text, or all of the sign but the text.
When you turn the sign on, the acrylic lights up with a series of LED lights in your favorite color, sending a clear busy signal to those around you. When you turn it off, it blends right into your workspace.
It even works with the new Apple Watch.

Dimensions and Specs
The sign’s base is made of smooth aluminum with rounded corners and houses the electronics, battery, and LEDs that light up your sign. The interchangeable sign is made of acrylic with custom laser-etched text which shines from the lights.
The base is 238 mm L x 48 mm W x 25 mm H.
The sign adds 80 mm to the hight, bringing it to 105 mm high.
USB Version
The USB version powers the device and the sign by a USB connection. You can then turn on / off the device or change the color through our Mac app.
Bluetooth Version
The Bluetooth version is powered by rechargeable batteries and is activated by all the integrations mentioned above (our app, keyboard stroke, etc), or by an on / off switch on the bottom.
Pre-release Version
We've had a lot of offices that LOVED the switch only sign. We're offering it as a low cost tier to get a sign on your desk. It runs on AA batteries, and has no connectivity or integrations. You turn it on and off like a lamp.
Rewards
When backing a standard text sign you will select between “In The Zone”, “Wired In” and “On Air”. As shown below.
Signs with custom text is selected by you after the project closes. You will select a 1-16 character string or upload vector images to put onto your sign.

Standard Rewards
The $20 Reward is for the current unit being used in office spaces - this unit will ship as soon as our project closes.
Stretch Goals
Timeline
We know it takes a long time to get a hardware Kickstarter ready. Rather than start the campaign, and then go through final product development, we wanted to test and see real progress on the product design side. We have been working on Wired In signs for over a year. With actual prototypes in hand since January of 2014.
We wanted to make sure the products were perfect. We feel, with all of our upfront work, that our timeline is very realistic.
Our Team
Joshua Howland - A full time iOS engineer and product manager. Joshua works at Tanner Labs.
Caleb Hicks - A full time iOS engineer and educator. Caleb teaches at DevMountain.
Andrew Madsen - A full time Mac and Electrical engineer. Andrew works at Mixed In Key. This guy is the all-star of our product team.
We have also teamed up with the company that built PhoneSoap, who recently aired on Shark Tank. Their team has infrastructure to help us manufacture and fulfil our orders. Their experience and sourcing connections will play a huge role in helping us meet our timeline goals.
Risques et défis
This project has similar challenges to all manufacturing projects such as component quality and restraints, but we have mitigated our risk by leveraging manufacturing partners we currently have in place. As mentioned earlier, we already have working prototypes in office spaces now. While it is unlikely that we experience delays, quality and safety are our top priorities and we will not ship a product until it meets our standards.
