What will Yogventures be like?
Yogventures is going to be an open world sandbox game designed first and foremost as a multiplayer experience. The game will allow you to create and shape worlds, then easily share them and play with friends! We're going to take the idea of "build your own adventure" to the extreme. Yogventures will provide simple-to-use tools to design worlds that match your imagination and are packed with thrilling stories and epic treasures.
You'll have control over everything from buildings and dungeons to the NPCs and mobs. Yogventures will be the ultimate modder's game where even the rules of winning and losing can be tweaked. Think adventure maps in Minecraft, only now you aren’t limited to just blocks! The game utilizes technology called "Marching Cubes" which allows us to generate fantastic new world terrain that is random and editable. This means the terrain will be vast, interesting and fully destructible - you'll be able to diggy diggy as much as you like or just say 'Balls to it!' and blow it all up!
But that's not all - there will be other gameplay modes to play alone or together, and we will be kicking off your imagination by making brand new adventures for you to play! These will feature all your favorite characters from our series, the heroic Honeydew and Xephos, the bumbling wizard Fumblemore, the raucous Professor Griswold, the Knight formerly known as Old Peculier, and many more! And of course this means we'll be launching an even more epic and amazing video series to run alongside the release of Yogventures - potentially even featuring maps that you have made. All of the maps and adventures we make for this will be released to the community so you can play along with us or re-imagine the adventure and make it your own!
The game you’ve always wanted
Importantly, we want YOU to be involved at every stage in the development of the game - from funding it here on Kickstarter to guiding the developers on where to focus their efforts. We have a forum set up for players to submit ideas and feedback and we’ll work with you to make those ideas a reality. We’re going to run monthly polls asking for the community to decide what features, elements, or community mods are added to the game. Just some of the features which will be included are:
- Beautiful, randomly-generated game worlds that are different every time you start a new Yogventure
- Fully shapeable terrain - with the ability for players to raise a mountain range or create a vast ocean; you can effortlessly shape your world however you imagine it
- A wealth of novel building materials, creatures, NPCs and items
- A rich underground to mine and explore - bristling with rare outcroppings of gems and crystals, hidden tombs and dark underground terrors that drop rare weapons and loot
- A fully-fleshed out crafting system
- An in-game physics engine that will even effect the blocks you place in your creations
- The ability to customise your own unique avatar or play as one of your favourite Yogscast characters
- Easy-to-use in-game modding API including in-game scripting
- Ability for modders to have a chance to get their work added to the game
- Regularly released video updates from the developers including the latest feature additions
Why are the Yogscast making a game?
We feel incredibly lucky to have been given the opportunity to entertain you as we play games made by other people. For the past four years we've shared experiences together in World of Warcraft, a wealth of betas and new releases, and of course our most popular Minecraft series Shadow of Israphel. The characters of Honeydew and Xephos and all the others have sprung to life out of these amazing journeys and we think it's time to give them a game all their own.
Countless times we've felt limited by games and come across features we have wished we could change. "Come On Blizz!" Simon would yell (no matter who developed the game!) and we hoped that someone would hear our call and implement this feature, or that bug fix, in order to make perfect something that was already great. With this game we'll have that opportunity. Since we'll be helping to develop the game we'll be able to ask YOU the players what features you want and actually have them created; this game will be the ultimate mod where anything we can dream we can build!
The Dream Team
Lewis and Simon can barely manage a simple jumping puzzle - so the Yogscast aren’t going to be doing any actual coding! We aren't programmers or artists but luckily we have close friends at Winterkewl Games who are. They are a team of talented indie developers based in and around Hollywood, California. Their artists and programmers are long-time veterans of film and game companies - working at the highest levels of production.
We started concept work and pre-production during our trip to Los Angeles in October 2011, which might help to explain how we ended up visiting Dreamworks in this video:
This will be Winterkewl Games’s first title but after seeing what they have been able to put together for our demo we are sure these are the right guys for the job! In only a few months of part-time development, the game is already looking fantastic.
Winterkewl’s artists, modelers, animators and programmers are partnering with us on this project to create the game our community wants. Whatever we together can imagine they will endeavour to make real. In the game at least! All of the art on this page as well as everything you can see on Yogventures official website - http://www.yognaughts.com - was created by this highly skilled team of artists and programmers!
Thank you for helping to make this a reality!
We're truly honored to have the opportunity to bring the Yogscast to life in a game of our own making, and we relish the chance to be able to give back to our fans and community whom we love. We'll do everything we can to make the kind of game that will make YOU proud and look forward to sharing the fun in the future!
Also, a great big thank you to the families and friends of Winterkewl Games who have been so supportive during all this pre-production. We couldn't have gotten this far without your love and support, and we'll need you even more during production. THANKS!
