NOT ME is film about 8 separate individuals that combined tell a complete story of addiction, denial, and recovery. What started as a 10-min video, organically turned into something much greater and more powerful. We realized that there were a lot of similarities between the stories and that letting these people tell their story would be able to help countless others with their struggle. This allowed for us to create a 45-min documentary that tells a very real and honest story with the capability to help countless others.
There is a resurgence in drug addiction all over America that is coming back in a very real way. Most of the time it starts with prescription pills, but as you will learn in NOT ME, quickly leads to more extreme drugs. People that are affected by this are not psychologically disturbed, junkies or criminals, but normal high school kids that come from very normal families. Every 14 min - someone dies from a drug overdose. "More than three in five teens say prescription pain relievers are easy to get from parent's medicine cabinets; half of teens say they are easy to get through other people's prescriptions; and more than half say prescription pain relievers are available everywhere" Partnership attitude tracking study, 2006.
Our goal is to educate. Families stay in denial until addiction happens to them. Most of them will not educate themselves to the destruction of addiction until it happens to them and then it becomes necessary. They make drug use a moral issues when it is not. NOT ME helps parents realize that this can happen to normal families. This is happening in areas all over America. If no one speaks out, we cannot change the stigma and the judgment. It is our hope that this film will be able to start conversations between a parent and a child, a teacher and a student or a neighbor with a neighbor.
We have already completed over half of the documentary and need funding to complete by:
1) Adding more interviews to complete story from doctors, first-responders, or law enforcement officials
2) Filming B-Roll with families
3) Filming Cinematic B-Roll for the production
4) Additional Editing Hours
5) Color Correction
6) Sound Design
7) Music Licensing
8) Film Festival Entries
Sounds like a lot right? We have partnered with a great production company in Dallas TX called YouPlus Media that has agreed to finish the documentary (and filmed the original) for a significantly reduced cost. We are setting our goal as a bare-bones budget to complete the film, but in reality could use much more to create the best possible film. The more funding we receive, the higher quality the documentary, the greater likelihood of gaining wider distribution so more people will see the film, and thus helping more people across the world.
We need your help.
We need to get the word out there.
We need people to hear this story to start a conversation.
To stop denial.
To stop addiction.
Risks and challenges
Challenges we face are funding. Luckily we have partnered with a company that has worked with us on flexible payment structure and donated a lot of man hours.
The next challenge is marketing to get the word out there to distribution and other entities. We have a PR team that has also donated their time to help. In addition, YouPlus Media is helping with their industry contacts to help with introductions. We have already seen interest from a few.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
