Pave.com, another crowdfunding platform, has selected Britta Riley as a NYC "Rising Star". Stealing from backers and then completely ignoring them sounds professional to me.

I had to reply on Twitter, and I hope other backers in the same situation will too.

Did anyone else know that Windowfarms received venture capital funding in EARLY 2013:

So more money came in after the Kickstarter campaign, and clearly the funds weren't used to ship the rewards to international backers or refund their money. Cute.

We paid for international shipping, I can't see the problem as you seem to be able to produce and ship things to the US!

Here is the text of a written statement submitted by Britta to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation earlier this week. I will let you all do your own analysis of the text: I am fairly certain you will have a lot to say, especially given that this is the first contact we've had from the Windowfarms project in many, many months, and it wasn't even to us directly!

"Justin from Kickstarter contacted me on your behalf.

He said you are working a piece on Kickstarter manufacturing projects and that you "have talked with more than a dozen backers who feel they've been defrauded [by me]."

I am very very sad to hear that. I'm guessing that these are some of the 153 Canadian backers whose Windowfarms I am still working as fast as I can to deliver.

I am so grateful to every one of my backers for seeing my vision with me. They came on board for a wild ride. Our shared vision was to start a manufacturing business that would support essentially a distributed global community garden. enable us to grow food in our own homes and bring healthy, sustainable practices to indoor gardening while learning from one another's experience in an online community.

This project has been at once one of the most fulfilling in my life and by far the most challenging.

I could not be any more aware or concerned about fulfilling my Canadian backers orders as quickly as possible. We already made good on the vast majority of our 1577 backers' rewards but these remaining folks' orders keep me up at night. Canadians have always been some of the most passionate folks in the Windowfarms open community that I started this business to support. (You can see a bit more about this in this video:http://www.ted.com/talks/britta_riley_a_garden_in_my_apartment.html
      .)

I am working as fast and as hard as I can to fulfill these rewards.

It has been incredibly fulfilling to see my dream of microfarming in cities year-round spread to thousands of families across the United States.

However, I won't be satisfied until all of Windowfarms' international backers have gotten to grow their own crops as well. The backers in Canada will hear from me soon. I'm working on a specific new tool that will let me handle each of their cases efficiently. They will definitely be the first people in Canada to receive Windowfarms.

Shortly after that, I hope to bring Windowfarms to many more families in Canada who may have missed the opportunity to book theirs what turned out to be so far in advance.

Again, I have only deep thanks for every backer who joined me on this ride through the many new frontiers in urban farming, social enterprise, and entrepreneurship, and perhaps even something that will turn out to be a new twist on capitalism.

      I hope this helps."

Just a little reminder for Britta and the team, from whom I've also requested refunds and provided deadlines which have gone unmet: DIRECT from the mouth of KICKSTARTER:

"Is a creator legally obligated to fulfill the promises of their project?

Yes. Kickstarter's Terms of Use require creators to fulfill all rewards of their project or refund any backer whose reward they do not or cannot fulfill. (This is what creators see before they launch.) We crafted these terms to create a legal requirement for creators to follow through on their projects, and to give backers a recourse if they don't. We hope that backers will consider using this provision only in cases where they feel that a creator has not made a good faith effort to complete the project and fulfill."

Totally agree with Matt. I'm living in the Netherlands and despite written promises on refunds no reaction at all on emails since January. I didn't think about going to the credit card company. Elizabeth, those of us outside the US were scammed it seems. Unfortunate because I pledged for this product because I really liked the idea. Unfortunately it is beyond the time period to request a refund through Amazon, but I'm going to file a claim with my credit card company. I suggest that anyone that hasn't received it at this point do the same.

      Hi all,
I realize this may not be the best solution for all the Canadian-KickStarter-potential-Windowfarmers out there. I traveled to the USA on business last week and gave Windowfarms a heads-up that I'd be there (along with the shipping address for my hotel). My long-awaited Windowfarms showed up at my hotel on Wednesday!

I was flying home with US Airways and they checked it in with no problems (although I am a frequent flyer, so not sure if oversize baggage fee was waived or if check-in agent was having a good day). The box is approx. 48"x12"x12" (roughly 1.2m x .3m x .3m) for a 2-column Windowfarm and well under the usual 50 Lb limit the airlines apply. The box arrived in Montreal with a small dent in one corner, but no damage to the Windowfarms. Canadian Customs accepted the email-receipt from the original KickStarter Amazon payment confirmation as the "purchase" price -- although they were a little confused by the 2011 date on it!

FYI, I know United can be rough and insists on you signing a waiver before they'll accept any boxes as baggage.

Thanks to the Sarah and the Windowfarms people that responded in very short order (I sent the email to them last minute late on Friday when I realized I would be in the USA the following week)... and they responded and shipped Monday!

Now I have to go find some seeds and make some nutrient solution! Good luck to the rest of the Canadians and I hope this information was useful to you!

      Dear Windowfarms,

It is now Feb 19th, and the backers in Canada are eager to receive our window farms before the spring growing season starts(almost a year later then the promised date). It seems that after over 9 months of trying to resolve shipping issues - including crowd sourcing backers for ideas - you are no farther along in finding a solution. Likely if a shipping solution has not been found yet at the price point you expected then it doesn't exist. Would you please give backers an option to pay an addition fee to cover the unanticipated shipping cost. that way those who want to get their hands on the product can, and those who are happy to wait, can wait until you find an alternative solution.

Please don't ignore Canadian Backers while you continue to commercially sell window farms in the USA.

Has anyone in Canada received the e-mail that was promised last week with news regarding our shipments?

It's great that Windowfarms has decided to do a "final" update and considers their campaign closed because they have completed their domestic shipments. But a serious lack of updates after nearly a year of delays, and cut-and-paste comment responses talking about "individual customer service requests" is shoddy customer service at best. And despite what Windowfarms says, posting updates on Kickstarter is far more efficient than requesting backers to flood you with individual e-mails when multiple backers are asking the same basic question.

Continued (and frequent) updates regarding international shipments should be a simple courtesy at this point, instead of something that we have beg for.

I must say I am very disappointed in this project, endless delays and horrible communication from the windowfarm team. I can understand delays but at least update your backers on a regular basis. And now to see that the windowfarms are actually for sale before all the backers have received their windowfarm is unacceptable.

All in all a huge disappointment and it makes me wish there is an option to just get my money back.
