We need your help to turn this old barn on the back of our property into a fully functioning kitchen! We've got 30 days to raise $40,000 and none of this will be possible without your support.
What we are all about....
Few things are more intimate than food. Sharing a meal together nourishes our body and feeds our soul. Located on the private farm of owners Laci and Travis Sandoval, Wind & Rye Kitchen was created to celebrate our personal relationship with food through the ritual of eating on special occasions and in our daily lives. Whether you’re looking for the perfect wedding cake or a memorable meal shared with friends under a starry night sky, we welcome you to feast with us.
Since we need your help to build our own kitchen, we’ve found a temporary home for the program with our close friends at Backyard Restaurant http://www.backyardforestville.com/. Go check them out and be sure to order the onion rings!! The problem is, they need their kitchen space to continue to produce the incredible meals they serve every day. Having our own space would allow both Backyard and Wind & Rye to continue this incredible project with even more farms.
Using Wind & Rye as a kind of starting block allows County Line Harvest the chance to explore the benefits, risks, challenges and outcomes of producing a retail product without making the huge “leap of faith” investment of purchasing a production space of their own. Our hope is to help farms like County Line prepare, so when they do out grow our facility, they will have recipes, packaging and processes in place that they can easily implement on a larger scale. Wind & Rye’s kitchen will then be open to start this same process with another farm.
Wedding Cakes & Cake Stands....
This part is simple. I love to make wedding cakes. Travis makes beautiful cake stands. Together we are going to give couples across the Bay Area a chance to customize their wedding in a truly unique way with a keepsake to pass down through the ages. Currently I rent space at local kitchens to produce the wedding cakes but having a workshop in my very own backyard would allow me to invite couples out for intimate cake tastings and increase production.
Events & Experiences
So much of how we connect is food-driven. It’s why the kitchen is the heart of the home and sharing a meal bonds us. We invite you to participate in this special ritual through our many upcoming farm-to-table dinners, cooking classes, food growing lessons, nutritional information sessions, and more. Our events and meals will be experiences meant to rekindle our sense of community and share a love of food
HOW YOU CAN HELP.
The money we raise through Kickstarter will help us to pay for the renovation of the existing structure, hooking up utilities, purchasing the equipment and supplies necessary for our projects and finally making the Wind & Rye Kitchen feel like a warm and inviting space for every member of our community.

Risks and challenges
As with any creative project, things are bound to go a little differently than I had planned, but that's ok! Believe me, after helping Travis to launch his own glass studio and simultaneously working the past seven years in the fast paced Bay Area food scene, I've met my fair share of set-backs and obstacles. My time spent as the executive pastry chef for one of San Francisco's most elite catering companies gave me the opportunity to push myself well beyond what I thought I was capable of accomplishing. The risks and challenges set before me often seemed too monumental to achieve but thankfully I was pushed by my mentors and coworkers to work even harder so that together we could make any client's dream a reality. Those risks are a big part of every new chapter of our lives and now that the dream I am striving towards is my own, there is nothing that can stop me.
I've done my homework and have a solid plan already underway for the building of our kitchen. Unforeseen bumps in the road may lead to the completion date being pushed back a bit, but they could not keep us from making the Wind & Rye Kitchen a reality.
If we succeed in this campaign drive, I promise to put my South Dakota work ethic into full force to make sure that you not only receive the rewards promised to you here but also to fulfill my commitment to growing the food community in our area and beyond.
