Getting close. The music is done! So are the photos!
It has been a while since I've sent an update. We have been moving all parts of this new album forward and are getting close to replication (the making of the CDs). Here's a little breakdown of what we've done so far.
First of all I invite you to save-the-date for the CD release party. It will be happening on April 17 at the JCC's Wosk Auditorium in Vancouver (Oak and 41st.) Early bird tickets are on sale starting on Family Day, February 8. Stay tuned for more info coming soon.
The cover art is done! It combines my Uncle Tim's amazing artwork, photography by Anick Violette and design work by Lisa Thé. This post to you will be the first time anyone has seen the artwork. Can you spot Ella's name? June's name? Take a look!
We also finished recording the final elements that we didn't get done in Nashville. This includes all of the keyboard parts done by Chris Gestrin in Vancouver. His work was crucial to some of the songs including one of my favourites on the album "Robots and Tots."
We recorded all of the backing vocals as well. The English backing vocals were done by Keri Latimer in Winnipeg, the French backing vocals by my longtime collaborator Cynthia Ramamonjisoa in Vancouver and we also finished up the kid backing vocals with a session recorded by Sheldon Zaharko of Zed Productions. Here's a photo from that session.
At the end of the session recording with Sheldon I had my daughter Ella come in to work on a duet with me for the lullaby on the new album. It's called "Fishing for Dreams" and while the version we did together won't be on the album itself I will be releasing it in another form yet to be determined, but probably in time for Ella's birthday on April 15. Here's a photo with Ella in the studio (note the matching Nashville shirts).
One other important part of the creation of a new album is the photography. We had a great photo session right at the end of 2015 with Anick Violette from Anick Violette Studios in Vancouver. It was a crazy photo shoot with a bunch of awesome kids as well as my band mates. It was hectic but Anick managed to capture a whole bunch of great photos we'll be using for the album as well as future promo materials and even a music video we'll be releasing in the lead up to the release of the new album. Here are a few of my favourite shots, these shots however will not be the ones featured in the album artwork.
So there you have it. We are getting so close. Steve Dawson has finished mixing the songs and they are being mastered next week, the liner notes are being done right now by my wonderful sister-in-law Lisa Thé, and we are preparing to launch ticket sales for the CD release party on April 17.
Thanks again for joining me on this most amazing adventure.
