Our goal is to organize several free, all ages Art and Music events in our hometown this summer. As we've done in previous years, we plan to do a series of free monthly downtown art walk concerts, known as Third Thursday, which take place at Winter Garden Plaza in the heart of Downtown Jamestown. We organize this series in collaboration with the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation. This will be the fourth season of Third Thursday concerts that we have organized together, and they have always been very well received by the community. This year, we are hoping to raise the funds to attract some bigger-name regional touring bands, and to maybe do some kind of larger end-of-summer blowout for our September event.
The dates for this year's Third Thursdays are May 21, June 18, July 16, August 20, and September 17.
We are also once again organizing a cookout & art auction with live music at Jamestown Community College's "100 acre lot" Park during Memorial Day weekend. The Auction portion of this event is called ARTBURN, and it involves the work of local artists being auctioned off with extremely low opening bids, with the auctioneer standing next to a huge bonfire. If the work doesn't sell on the spot, the artist throws it in the fire. Do you love local art? come save it before we burn it ALL!
ARTBURN 2015 is happening on Saturday May 30th, from 3-9pm
For this funding campaign, we are working with our friends at Mellow Phone Printing to create interesting, high quality rewards that we hope our supporters will love, featuring the work of some of the Artists who will beparticipating in these summer events.
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges that this project could encounter are fairly slim, as our team has organized each of these events annually over the past 4+ years, and has built good working relationships with everyone involved. Barring any unforeseen weirdness, These free events will be happening as planned.
The main challenge here will really be to see if we can grow Third Thursday into a higher profile event that can attract bigger-name bands and artists, which could then help us attract more people from outside of Jamestown into the city.
These Summer Events have already been scheduled, and they already have dates & venues reserved. They WILL be happening this year whether we reach our crowdfunding goals or not, the real question is just how much cooler they will be than last year, how many people we can bring in, and how big of a bash we can throw at the September Third Thursday!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
