The Lume are extremely durable sunglasses inspired from luxury swiss watch companies to glow in the shadows. Stand out from the crowd and shine on.
Finally, sunglasses that are as unique as you!
Let's take a look at what makes The Lume different from all the others!
DARKSHINE GLOW TECHNOLOGY
Inspired from the swiss dive watches like Rolex, we have developed our DarkShine Glow Technology that allows the logos of the sunglasses to glow in the shadows, indoors, or at night. The mixture we use is the highest quality in the world (and VERY expensive!) It allows the logo to be perfectly white during the day, while glowing an amazing teal color at night. Simply wear the sunglasses during the day to charge up the glow!
AEROSPACE GRADE TITANIUM ARMS
Yes... Your sunglasses are made from the same materials used in a Fighter jet, F1 Race Car, Lamborghini, Bugatti Veyron, and many ultra-luxury watches. Titanium is the strongest metal for its weight, allows you to use your sunglasses actively without worrying about them breaking. Titanium is also hypoallergenic, which means it is perfectly safe for the human body. Doctors use titanium for hip and knee replacements for this reason.
BLACK ARMOUR COATING
You are an active person and need eyewear that can keep up. We examined titanium drill bits, knives, firearms, and F1 race car pistons, and developed our own matte black protective coating. We call our protective titanium coating "Black Armour." This stuff is strong... like drill bit strong.
REAR WEIGHTED BALANCE
Ever had sunglasses fall down your nose? Us too... We really take proper sunglass fitment to heart. By using a thick titanium and ultralight lenses, we are able to greatly improve the center of balance. This makes for a very comfortable fit, and helps ensure the glasses stay nice and planted on your beautiful face.
WORLD'S LIGHTEST POLARIZED LENSES
We take lenses VERY seriously. What's the point in making awesome sunglasses if the optics are crappy? We literally searched all around the world looking at various types of lenses. From Glass, Polycarbonate, CR39, Acrylic, and Nylon. Each one has its merits but we wanted something truly exceptional. We are extremely proud to introduce William Painter's Lifelong Lenses. They are the lightest in the world, less than half the weight of traditional glass lenses. Our lenses offer superior optical quality, durability, and acid resistance to anything else on the market. Our lenses are PREMIUM, they cost more to produce than an entire Oakley pair.
Polarized lenses neutralizes the glare, make objects clearer and reduces strain on the eyes. They work especially well on car windshields, on water (ocean or lakes) and in other high glare environments. Typically lenses have a polarizing and tint coating added to the top of the lens to achieve this effect. Over time, however the polarizing and tint can bubble and flake off of the lens. Have you ever seen a bad tint job on a car? Same problem. Our Lifelong lenses go one step further, we integrate both the polarizing and tint layers all the way through the lens, so it will last forever.
HYDROPHOBIC LENS TECHNOLOGY
Just like a leaf that repels water, our Lifelong Lenses come with a Hydrophobic coating. It is applied to the front and back of the lens, repels moisture and water buildup. Water literally shoots right off the lens! This coating prevents streaks and sheens and greatly improves visibility if the lenses get wet.
We want you to have only the very best. Each one of our titanium arms is laser engraved to ensure it stands the test of time. It's the details that matter, and we think it is the perfect finishing touch.
William Painter uses a high quality acetate frame to allow the frame to adjust to different size heads. It is flexible but overtime remembers what feels comfortable on your head. Our customers say that our glasses are the most comfortable they have ever had.
We have worked really hard on making a high quality pair of glasses, but also a way to protect them. The William Painter hardcase is custom built for the "Lume,"it fits snuggly and doesn't shake around when moving the case. We tried over 100 hardcases and this one is perfect.

We need Kickstarters help to allow us to purchase the lumious materials from the Swiss producers. This stuff is extremely high quality, (we tested a many different types) but it is also the most expensive. A tiny 100g bottle is $3000! We need your help!
William Painter wouldn't exist without the Kickstarter community. Oh What a journey it has been from our first KS project (The Jackhawk 9000). Since then we have built manufacturing relationships, developed skill sets and solved many problems of the eyewear industry. We are truly proud The Lume are so thankful for Kickstarter being a part of our journey.
Here's the timeline to production:
- December/January Make lots of new Kickstarter friends, finish up manufacturing of the raw materials
- Late January: Pay Swiss Supplies for Luminescent Pigment, Ship unfinished sunglasses to US for assembly.
- Feb: Swiss luminescent coating arrives and we begin the assembly process.
- Late Feb: Complete production, deliver goods to 3PL for shipment to Kickstarter backers.
- March: All orders fulfilled.
Risks and challenges
We have worked extremely hard to ready this product for Kickstarter and full-scale manufacturing and fulfillment, but here are what we see as the risks:
MANUFACTURING: The molds and tooling have already been created. The manufacturer has lined up and is trusted as we have used them for our other pair (the hook) It is possible there could be difficulties with the application of the luminous pigment to the frame. We have tried many different ways of applying the substance but right now the best way appears to be by hand. We will be doing this in the US to ensure the highest quality!
FULFILLMENT: Sometimes things get a bit crazy and stuff happens that can’t be planned for: a supplier misses a deadline, customs clearance or a shipment gets lost. Those things could cause a delay. We are using an experienced logistics team in Asia to get our products to the US. We have used them before, from there the product goes into our 3PL warehouse and should be on the way to you shortly after that!
Any pledge amount brings us one step closer to our goal. We need your help to purchase the extremely expensive pigments and tools required to apply the coating. Help us make The Lume sunglasses possible by clicking the ‘Back This Project’ button at the top of the page, or by helping us spread the word by sharing our page.
Thank you so much for your support! We look forward to delivering these amazing sunglasses and watch you get all of those jealous stares!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
