Summer 2014 update
It has been a while since our last update so let me catch you up to speed. We are deep into editing the film now, but there is still a good long way to go. I'm sure many of you have been following the stories about legal challenges to the amendment in NC - it seems like many of these lawsuits in NC, Virginia and others are headed for the US Supreme Court next year. As such, I am hoping to get the film as far along as possible in 2014 and then interview a few of the folks involved in these legal challenges, and then we'll wrap the film up just as we find out what's going to happen in the courts in 2015. If these cases don't make it before the highest courts next year, so be it, we'll finish the film anyway. But hopefully we will work out the timing just right...
The film is currently over 6.5 hours long! Don't worry, I'm still aiming for about 80-90 minutes in the end. It's a long, laborious process but the good news is that we have so much excellent material. A lot of difficult decisions loom on the horizon but I can't wait to share this with you and the world. Hopefully we can share a lot of the extra material via our website, which we will also be building out as the film draws closer to a conclusion.
In the meantime, you may have heard about a film called "The Case Against 8" about Prop 8 in California. It is currently screening on HBO and is worth a watch: http://www.hbo.com/documentaries/the-case-against-8#/
And some links about the legal challenges to marriage amendments, if you have not read about them:
Next time I check in, I look forward to reporting a much shorter running time! Thanks for your patience and your ongoing support.
