      Hi Ed, at the moment we are still stuck on a kind of excruciating port from the abandoned Kobold2d framework to Cocos2d 3, which will cut down on the amount of patching we have to continually do to keep up with new versions of Xcode, and will help with our PC port. Porting the game has lasted months and there haven't been any cool new features during this time worthy of an update. There's quite a bit of character animation in past updates if you'd like to check out work from the initial production. I'm as eager as anybody to get new feature work done. One of the reasons I spent time releasing the character generator as a standalone was because it was available on a separate branch that was already using Cocos2d 3 and didn't depend on waiting for the port of the main branch to be complete.
      Anyway, that's where we are at the moment. Part of my job is to be the one to deal with backer frustration so the programmers can do their best in the time that they have to work. I do think it's realistic that we will have a beta available this year for backers who have pledged at that level. Thanks for your continued interest.

      Thank you Wiley for your answer, that's something at least. I think you should have communicated about it before, you owed it to your backers.

      You shouldn't have asked for less money than what you required in the first place. Now even if you move slowly you can post updates about your progress, there should be an update very two months in any case.

      If you know you won't be able to finish the game in the following year, I think you should at least send the assets (the 2D animation you're talking about) to your backers.

      I'm really sorry but I won't that easily buy the "family member's death" excuse because it's a good to excuse to shut down any critical comment, and we got it in another KS project ( While the guy said in 2013 that despite his father's cancer he would continue to work, he cut all communications ever since and that's not because of mourning: you can see that he remains very active on his personal website.

      You got $24000 and for many people that's a year's salary, so no excuse is valid here. I even think that's unfair to play the emotional card after such a long silence period. I understand that you confirmed your commitment to the game but you gave no deadline, not even a partial progress target date, so this is — as many backers with experience know here — pretty synonymous to no commitment at all.

      Hey Ed, yeah, I won't lie to you, there's been plenty of problems. The kickstarter paid for all the 2d animation, but the main engine is all coded from scratch, nights and weekends by James, Scott and for a few months Paul (while I could afford it). We're doing nights and weekends now without money, and James both had a close family member die and is now expecting his first child (hopefully he won't be unhappy with me for being more open about that). But this game is our dream and there's not any question that it will be completed. Thanks for your initial support and thank you for backing so many projects, not knowing what each one will bring.

      And to be clear, four years without a runnable partial demo (not an avatar generator) sounds like vaporware to me.

      Thanks Carlos! Right now we are porting the codebase to a more modern framework that will make the PC version easier too, in addition to the Mac. Also we got an AppleTV development kit, and we're experimenting to see if the game will work on that device as well.

      Still excited for Thunderbeam, whenever you've finished it! I backed this without even having an iPad, and still don't, so I'm glad you're targeting Mac now as well. I've also gotten years of use and compliments on the great Thunderbeam shirt.

      Glad you're taking your time to make the game the best it can be. In the meantime, I've got a daunting backlog of games I purchased on Steam that I haven't played yet. I'm sure others do too.

      You mean to say there is no schedule and that you have no target date what so ever? Forgive me if I sound alarmed but when I backed this project it was under the assumption that there was a set goal with some vague idea when it could be completed.

      If you wana throw cancer in my face as a means to shut me up- just remember that the reason this project exists is because of all the fine people who thought you could deliver a game and donated out of the goodness of their hearts... And you have the audacity to guilt trip me of all people because I am concerned for the development of this project?

      Right now it's targeted for IPads back to the iPad 2, macs and PC's. I think it would work on the six plus, but Apple has made it where you can't target by screen size alone, so there's no way we can put it on the 6 but not earlier devices. I know for a fact it's too hard to play on screens smaller than the six.

      What is the targeted device range at this point? When it was funded it was targeted for IPad only, but with the 6plus I don't use my iPad as much. Will we get a expanded device list when this finally drops?

      I don't know Adam. I have limited ability to shout orders at my friends who code on the project for free after they get home from their full time day jobs. I've made a point of not promising release dates, because I have enough experience in software development to know they are usually wrong, even when folks are working full time with resources. Which we are not. Also, our lead developer's mother has just been diagnosed with Cancer.

      You should really try taking a nap or something, you might wake up feeling better.

      Hi Adam. It'll generate and store cadets in iCloud for use with the game. We have to show use of the title in the app store in order to hang on to our Trademark, and the core game isn't going to be releasable in the window of time we have left. Saints row did a similar thing for IV with their initiation station.

      @ Adam Lichi: it's always a toss up when stuff is slow going though. I don't want to show every little thing, I want stuff to be a surprise in the game. We're breaking the random cadet generator off into a free download that will work on most any iOS device, that'll be the bulk of the next update. You'll be able to save characters to use in the game.

      We are approaching the 5 year anniversary of when Thunderbeam was funded. There has been so little progress made in all those years.

      Whole wars were fought and resolved in the amount of time this project has been in development.
