Chief Executive Daddy: Derrick's Story
Derrick Lee, founder of Wicoz, Inc., created the Milk Nanny after the birth of his son. Although his wife breastfed in the early months, when she returned to work she was often too exhausted to breastfeed at 3 a.m. The task of making that middle-of-the-night bottle fell on Derrick so his wife could sleep. It was one of those cold, exhausting nights when he had an "Aha!" moment to make the process easier. This is how Milk Nanny was born.

We spent a lot of time on the design and functionality of Milk Nanny, such as creating many safety functions to prevent incorrect operation, ease-of-use, ultra-clean formula processing, hi-quality components, low-maintenance features, and of course, its beautiful look.

Risks and challenges
To minimize the risk to you, we’ve personally funded the design and development of (multiple) prototypes as well as IoT and mobile phone app development. This has enabled us to work through major functionality, usability, design and implementation challenges up front.
But as with any complex project there are inherent challenges, the major ones we see that could impact timelines are as follows:
UL/CE/ETL/ROHS CERTIFICATION
We’ve been working with a leading independent electrical testing and certification lab throughout our design and prototyping, and feel confident about the certification process going smoothly. We've accounted for additional iteration and testing in our timeline and are prepared to make design modifications and adjustments during this phase if necessary.
MANUFACTURING
We’ve designed the Milk Nanny to be sold at an affordable price point. But there’s a risk in the tooling and manufacturing process that might cause the design to change slightly. If too many of these changes occur, it could cause delays in shipping. But you’ll be made aware of what we’re doing every step of the way if any of these delays or changes occur.
As a matter of fact, we'd be happy to share these things with you, our valuable backers, and get your feedback! This will ensure we get a finished product that is just the way you like it.
FULFILLMENT
We’ve chosen to use a third-party fulfillment services company in New York to handle warehousing and drop shipping. Ensuring smooth interactions between suppliers, manufacturers, warehousing, drop shipping and front-end ordering systems takes a lot of work and coordination. To minimize the possibility of any setback impacting the entire process, we’re working closely with our team in the U.S.A. who has many years of experience doing this sort of thing to ensure we do everything we can to bring the Milk Nanny into your home as smoothly and quickly as possible.
RETAIL STORE AVAILABILITY
We will be introducing Milk Nanny to most every major US retailer in 2Q 2015 and anticipate selling our smart milk maker through one or more of them. Rest assured, our Kickstarter supporters will receive their units months before they're available in retail stores.
