This is our cancelled campaign page.
We kept it up because we'll be relaunching in 2014 and wanted to make sure as much information as possible would be available up until that relaunch. Follow us to stay in the loop, get print and plays and guide the final development of the bigger-faster-stronger-cheaper final product!
As always, our sincere thanks for your overwhelming support.
First Campaign Details...
In the year 4010, mankind has ships in space but no colonies beyond Earth. Earth explodes, leaving outbound ships - the last of their kind - to set aside their differences and rally at the nearest life-sustaining planet. Pick your captains and team up in this cooperative strategy card game. You’ll work together to battle the elements and safely land your crew to save humanity! Everyone wins in Last Starfleet… or all is lost. **As featured in BoardGaming.com and Board Game Quest!
We appreciate anything you contribute to help us share Last Starfleet with the world! Get an advanced prototype copy, name a captain or have a card quote attributed to you, or get first print copies of the game (single or in sets of four). The main focus is on distributing the game itself...
We have two kinds of backer rewards – Limited quantity and unlimited quantity.
1. If you just want one reward – select it and submit.
2. If you want ONE LIMITED reward and some unlimited rewards, select it, and add the necessary funds for any unlimited rewards you’d like.
3. If you want MORE THAN ONE LIMITED reward, select the one that costs the most, add the necessary funds for all other rewards you’d like – and then email me. I’ll manually adjust the other reward’s available quantity.
BULK and MULTIPLES: Back in multiples using the level you wish to multiply. The same rules apply – if the level is limited, you’ll need to email me. You'll need to pay a shipping add, if applicable, on each multiple. US, CA, UK are included, so you don’t have a shipping add to multiply.
(See Shipping for additional shipping costs)
Odd SOLD OUT Rewards? Some sold out levels from our initial launch may look confusing - we had a hiccup defining "international" shipping and the add-on procedure so we updated with new levels.
You're a Part of the Last Starfleet Community
We are PROUD of the Game Crafter Exclusive Reviewer Copy. It's shiny, complete and a blast to play! So, why didn't we just produce and sell direct? We chose Kickstarter because we wanted to continue to build a community of reviewers, followers and best of all - backers. Throughout the campaign we will continue to perfect the game, together!
Meet the rest of the team - Here!
We believe in data driven development, so we're very careful about making hasty decisions. As of the launch, here's what we're considering/adding to the final version:
The Strategy Guide - An additional 2-3 pages of examples and tips was completed, pre-launch!
Deus Ex Machina - A rules variant that adds some complexity and difficulty, while introducing ghost ship abilities; which remove player elimination. Status: Play testing 75% complete. Target Date is TBD.
Ultimate Defender - A rules variant for 1-player games. Originally suggested by Marc Kusnierz, this rules variant would allow a single player to save humanity at varying degrees of difficulty. Status: In consideration. The mission of Last Starfleet, to create a positive teaming experience and foster heroic sensibility, would disagree with a 1-player variant. You're still a hero, but you're a team of one. We welcome your thoughts! Target Date is TBD.

Mastery and Difficulty Q&A
How do you play really well? Think like a hero and be sacrificing. Constantly adapt your strategy and recognize new opportunities. Communicate as a team and make combination plays with one another. Here are some examples of the strategic thinking that will make your team strong.
What circumstances make the game easier/harder?There are two easy ways to make the game a bit longer or more difficult; the ships you pick and the target number of people to win. Specifics here.

Stretch Goal #4 - $75,000 - New Captain and Ship - Kickstarter Backer Exclusive!

(LOCKED) Stretch Goal #5 - $90,000 - Interstellar Explorer Add-on!
At this level, we'll produce "The Making of Last Starfleet" book, which will take you through the unique Last Starfleet future-scape and story and much more! Specifics here.
- Pre-production 1-2 months, will begin as soon as we reach our goal, even while the campaign still runs!
- Mass production will take 2 months
- Shipping to fulfillment sites will take 1-2 months, and we'll pick, pack and ship all games as soon as they arrive at each site!
Shipping and Distribution - UK, CA, US shipping is included!
Our backer levels do not calculate shipping automatically because that was confusing at launch - UK and Canada count as international, but we're able to offer included shipping. Other countries vary. Please calculate your additional shipping using the chart, below, and add that amount to each reward level that requires shipping. We'll collect additional information using a survey after the campaign.
The final copy's price is $55, but we are offering a discount that rolls into the shipping and handling in order to offer the maximum free-shipping coverage. The final copy ships from fulfillment centers in Hong Kong, London, Toronto, Vancouver, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Chicago.
*International friends - on 4 count orders, you only pay the additional shipping once! Great way to get around the high international shipping.
Risks and challenges
High minimum print quantities - A reviewer copy costs us about $68, not including shipping. Ouch! But if we mass produce the game, production and shipping costs are astronomically reduced and quality significantly increased. The problem is that we need to print a large minimum number of copies to take advantage of this economy. Enter the theory of sunk costs. There are two outcomes; fund or fail. we're out all the fixed costs of this project either way. So, we're reducing the project goal by the fixed costs. Let's make this happen!
Operational Learning Curve - This is our first try! We've mitigated with lots of research, connected to communities/forums of designers and artists online and joined forces with local game development communities to learn more. The rule is "you don't do everything better than everyone. Focus on what you do best and find partners to fill in the gaps."
Biting Off More Than We Can Chew, or Expecting the Moon - Demand risks include committing too many and too few copies. If I was packing these and shipping them myself, there'd be a risk on the up side, but our distribution and manufacturing partners can scale to huge quantities. Kickstarter alleviates low volume risk, inherently. If it wasn't for crowd funding, in fact, we couldn't even give this a swing. We're fortunate to have Kickstarter and so happy to be at bat!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
