Welcome to The Why They Did That Podcast
The ultimate audio-tool for a deeper study of the Bible.
On August 31, 2018, we released "Why They Did That" to the world.
12 Episodes and 30,000 downloads in over 100 countries later, we invite you to join us on this journey, and back the “Why They Did That: Season 2 & Beyond” Kickstarter Campaign!
The WTDT T-Shirt
The WTDT T-Shirt takes inspiration from our promotional audio waveform we use to share previews on Instagram and Facebook. If this campaign is successful, we will contact you in the near future regarding sizes and if you would like your shirt signed by the producers.
The WTDT Coloring Book
The WTDT Coloring Book is such a great gift for your children, nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters...for everyone! Filled with all of the artwork from Season 1, including the episodes on Job, Daniel, David, Phodidas, Cain, Elijah, Joseph, Jesus, Jacob, and Martha! Not only that, but each spread will have a small bio on the Bible character, a fill in the blank on a central verse and a QR code leading to that episode. All artwork was hand-drawn on an iPad by our very own Ashley Bloom.
The WTDT Audio-Workbook
Do you ever find yourself amazed by the truths that people find in the scriptures? Do you ever wish you could do that yourself? Then you need the WTDT Audio-Workbook.
In the Audio-Workbook, you will be taught how to prepare yourself for Bible Study, how to effectively memorize scripture, how to notice the special "flags" in the Bible that lead to a deeper study experience, and the power of asking "why". Intimidated? Don't be. In keeping with our podcast-feel, each lesson has a QR code that connects you to the audio recordings of Dean's "How To Study the Bible" course, so you will receive step-by-step instruction until you're able to find the gems in God's Word all by yourself.
The book takes a very minimalist design: most of it is just scripture and a blank page! The Bible characters we love so dearly would have had just that, and yet God was able to speak wondrous things to them...He can do the same for you too! There is in instruction the audio, but there's just enough of it to start you on the path to a deeper and more personal bible-study experience.
In March 2018, we met to discuss the possibility of starting a podcast with the hope of 1) getting people to see how deep, personal and relevant the Bible is, and 2) to help promote our school. Little did we know that our school would actually fund us to do the first season, and that we’d get to release 12 episodes that have affected so many people in such powerful ways, and led some to giving the Bible — and God, another chance in their life!
The Bible fascinates us. As students at a Christian school, every day we come across new and exciting passages of inspiration that are seemingly untouched. What struck us the most were the fascinating real life stories of ancient Bible characters that we so often relegate to children's books and bed-time tales.
The thing is, we couldn't always relate to the stories themselves. How many men are instructed by their wives to marry another woman so that his bloodline may continue? Abraham was, but how could we apply that to us? And that is when it hit us! It's not about the what...it's about the why! When we realized that we could relate far more to the motivations of the characters rather than the actions themselves, Bible study changed for the both of us... forever!
So each episode we realize is focused on one specific Bible character and an aspect of their story. From there, we look at why they did that, then the implications and results of their decisions, and how that relates to us, and specifically the guest on that particular episode. It's a simple formula, but it's made such a difference to so many listeners already. Click here to read some of the reviews that have been left on iTunes.
The message of Christianity is more than powerful enough to change the entire world, yet it's so often packaged as though it were an afterthought. We decided early on that we were going to take all the time necessary to present a product that was not only great content, but something that looked clean, fresh and presentable. We wanted to make sure that the audio sounded crisp, that the images were sharp and that the social media accounts were eye-catching.
When we started back in May 2018, each episode took about 40 hours to produce from beginning to end (not including pre-production). At first, we literally didn't have a clue what we were doing. We had to learn from scratch how to use Adobe Audition, how to set up microphones, where to get licensed music and how to even get a podcast on iTunes. Since then, we've learned a lot, but each episode still takes at least 20 hours. That wouldn't be too much of a time commitment if we weren't both full-time college students with jobs on the side...
Unfortunately for us and our grades, we've spent many a night awake until the early hours of the morning trying to make sure everything is just right. Once the recording is finished, it has to be placed into audition, we spend about multiple hours editing and cutting to get just a first draft. We then listen through once more before spending what seemed like countless hours searching for the right track for each moment before eventually working towards a final cut. But that's not all. Each episode also has to be worked into the backend of our website; its sent to our hosting platform; its submitted to iTune; it needs its own artwork and its own promotional videos; it needs reviewers and it needs promotion... its a lot of work!
In our effort to provide a more substantial tool for Bible study, we've put a lot of time into designing a somewhat unique Instagram page that doubles as a study tool. Each episode receives its own 9-picture spread, with key verses that help each listener to study out what is being said for themselves, while also providing short clips of each episode to entice the new listeners to give it a try.
Season 2 & Beyond
With your generous pledges, we hope to be able to secure the long-term future of this podcast. We're planning to film all of the Season 2 Episodes and start a Youtube channel where you can actually watch what's happening in our newly built studio. With the expansion of the team, we also hope to be able to release content more frequently without compromising the quality, and continue to take this podcast to the next level. The testimonies we've received from doing this are beyond inspiring and we expect that God will continue to use this ministry in a powerful way in taking this gospel to the ends of the earth.

Risks and challenges
Both the Audio-Workbook and the Coloring Book will be published by an independent publishing company that is yet to be determined. This could result in unforeseen delays regarding the delivery of these particular rewards. We very much believe in regular communication regarding these things, so at the very least we commit to being open and honest regarding any potential drawbacks and/or delays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
