We are Whytes Watches.
Located in Metro Vancouver, Canada, we are watchmakers of fine timepieces of uncompromising quality. The natural world surrounds us and our inspiration is drawn from our environment and the history that is woven into the land. We bring you watches that can continue to serve for generations to come, thus truly encompassing and embracing the passage of time.
Whytes Celebrates Canada's 150th birthday
We are pleased to announce our third collection of watches to be released on Kickstarter. Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada the 150M (M for Manual) is a fully Automatic, self winding watch rated at 20ATM or 650ft waterproof. This collection of sturdy dress watches showcases the open beating heart together with a skeleton back and has the durability of a diver watch and the beauty of a pilot watch.
STRETCH GOAL #1 REACHED
Our new collection reflects the passage of time over the 150 years since the Confederation of Canada as a whole country. The 'True North' and 'Inushkuk' watches are reminiscent of the pocket watches as worn by gentlemen of 1867 but with modern strength and durability. The 'Sea to Sea' and the 'Terra Nova' reflect the character and contemporary design of a 21st century watch but with a heart in the past.
True to Whytes philosophy, we have placed quality at the core of our watches and use only the finest components. Sapphire glass, front and back, which only a diamond can scratch means you never need worry about scuffing the surface. 20ATM (650ft) ensures that your impromptu dip in the sea or last minute shower wearing your watch will not affect the watch in any way. Japanese Citizen Automatic Mechanical movement (wound by the movement of your wrist) ensures a smooth sweep of the hands and total precision timing and the 316L stainless steel case means a tough and robust vehicle in which to showcase the component parts.
The 150M Collection
1. The 'True North'
Taken from a line in the Canadian National Anthem, O Canada, the 'True North' watch embodies strength and pride in nationality, whichever yours may be. Strong clear lines, 24 hour and second dials slightly overlap the open heart but allow access to sight. Numbers are reminiscent of a bygone era whilst encased in a modern robust setting. Hands are a distinctive red, complimenting the polished silver of the case.
2. The Inukshuk
An Inukshuk is a figure traditionally constructed of piled stones by the Inuit peoples thought the Arctic landscape as a communication tool and can date back to 2400BC. Acting as hunting and navigational aids and having spiritual connotations, they represent the Inuit who survive on the land in their traditional way. Our watch reflects the strength and tenacity of these Arctic dwellers. The deep blue of the midnight sky provides the backdrop to the bold silver hands, dials and open heart, gleaming case, numbers, raised indices and red second and 24 hands.
3. The Terra Nova
Terra Nova - 'New Earth" is the name given to the easterly Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador by the European settlers of the 16th century. Then, as it is today, Canada is a mecca for adventure and pioneering spirit as encapsulated in the watch. Precise silver raised hand applied indices are set off by the open heart and the red second and 24 hour dials.
4. The Sea to Sea
Canada's national motto 'From Sea to Sea' - the Pacific to the Atlantic to the Arctic sea in the north spans a vast landmass of many different terrains, landscapes and ethnically and culturally diverse people. The watch's colour of deep ocean blue represents the seas that surround Canada on three sides, and provides the perfect foil for the silver touches of dials, raised indices and hour hands.
The Beating Heart
See the movement in action through an aperture large enough to get a glimpse of the intricate workings that only a mechanical watch movement can give. It will keep you mesmerized for hours. Perpetual motion, powered by the movement of your own wrist. You are controlling time.
The Open Back
The only person to know this is here is you. Try to prevent yourself from taking the watch off your wrist to have a look, or to proudly show someone the clear open back with an uninterrupted view of the mechanical movement in full action, unimpeded by steel. Covered by ultra strong sapphire glass, this will not scratch or scuff and you can be hypnotized by the constant silent whir of the movement to your hearts content.
Each watch carries a bit of history with it and is passed on to you with your own serial number etched in the back. In addition, if you so wish, there will be the option to have engraved 'Canada 150th Anniversary of Confederation' also on the reverse, which you will be able to choose at auction close.
Quick release supple leather straps
When ordering your 150M watch you can choose from a selection of very high quality 22mm straps, all genuine supple hardwearing leather designed to acquire a rich patina with age and use.
We know from experience that most wrists are longer than the normal length watch straps, so these straps are extra long and quick release so that you can change the strap on a whim and simply with a thumb nail, taking all of two seconds and with minimal effort.
Extra straps can be ordered in addition to your watch allowing you to mix and match according to your mood.
Colours available are black, dark brown, mid brown and caramel and can be combined with any of the watches. You will choose your straps after the campaign has ended.
Additional colours and types of strap will be available on our website following the shipping of the watches.

Do I need to change the battery? The 150M watch does not require a battery, the Miyota 82S7 caliber is an automatic movement that is powered by the movement of your wrist as you undertake your daily routine.
Why have you chosen a Japanese miyota movement instead of a Swiss movement? Japanese movements are now as reliable as any Swiss movement. We have decided to go with the Citizen Miyota in order to keep the timepiece affordable.
When will my card be charged? Kickstartar doesn’t work like an e-commerce shop, in fact your card will be charged 3-5 days after the campaign ends, and then only if it has been fully funded.
Will my watch be warranted? All the Whytes watches are warranted for two years after you receive it for the deign and movement. it is not possible to warrant watches which have been damaged directly by backers but we will help however we can to remedy the issues (there may be a charge).
Are the Stretch Goals extended to all backers? All watch backers will benefit from the Stretch Goals, regardless of the contribution date or number of watches purchased.
Who is your express courier? We partner with DHL for our deliveries globally. In Canada we will be using Canada Post, in line with our goals to support Canadian companies.
We do not boast about how our watches are Divers as they are not Divers (But they are waterproof to 200m, 20ATM, 650ft), we do not boast about how beautiful the movement is but it is a Japanese proven automatic movement as used in Citizen watches among others, we do not boast about how strong our watches are but that are made of surgical quality steel and sapphire glass that only a diamond can scratch. Our watches are sturdy, handsome and easy to wear, but, they have the heart and soul of Canada at their core, just like Canadians, they are understated.
Our goal is to have your watch with you before Christmas so that you can take it as a present for yourself or for a loved one, either way we will endeavour to make it happen. We will send globally by the quickest route each time to ensure rapid and secure delivery.
We anticipate delivery of the watches to our office by end of October after which we will apply stringent quality assessment of each watch to ensure each leaves us in pristine condition.
Delivery, depending on where you live in the world, typically takes between one week to three weeks to reach you.
This is our third Kickstarter project and we have always delivered to timeline. In fact our last project we delivered early!

Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges
Our risks and challenges are the same as others with product-based Kickstarter campaigns – typically this is production delays. With our previous watches we successfully delivered early and with the selection of our suppliers complete and test dates trialled and achieved we do not anticipate delays beyond our timeline; however, there are no guarantees in life and so it is possible that something unanticipated could occur during production.
We have an established and continuously growing and improving relationship with our manufacturer and are confident in our capacity to produce high quality products to deadline.
If something were to happen, rest assured that we would keep our Kickstarter community fully appraised of the situation.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
