About this project
Who are we?
Phil is schooled in 3D, graphic and web design and has been working in the games industry for the last 3 years and has recently been putting his computing skills to the test with additive manufacturing. Sheila has a masters in International Business with experience in International marketing campaigns. She is also a software engineer that has worked with companies such as Vodafone, IBM and Thales and is the director of Treebirds design.
But why do it?
Simply because having both worked in offices and identified common frustrations with cables we decided to launch an innovative product to fill a gap in the eCommerce market and fill desks with colour, invention and ease of use.
What's the project?
It's a cable dock made to sit on the side of desks and not only filter multiple cables and hold them in place when you unplug but importantly assist you when your down on the floor plugging into the socket and setting up.
The main body shape was designed with versatility and utility in mind, your cables can sit in the basket waiting to be used and are easily accessible.
Then we thought why not make it so your phone can be docked when it needs charging, cue the attachable smartphone stand that slides into place to support the phone and even hold a micro USB cable if needed. You can fit all reasonably sized smartphones in the basket (an example of a non reasonably sized smartphone is the Samsung Note).
The cable dock sticks to smooth surfaces using a thin foam foot consisting of microscopic suction cups meaning no damaging adhesives. The device can be stuck and pulled off up to 1000 times without damaging table tops and if the stickiness fades just wipe clean with a wet cloth and let dry.
You also get custom Velcro straps to help keep cables on your desk and floor, tidy. Branded and not quite as chunky as your average strap they are a perfect companion to the main product.
We made it in 6 different colours:
So any USP’s?
- Holds up to 8 cables!
- Holds other things such as USB devices
- Unimposing “drop-off basket” design for busy desktops
- Unique device that assists, guides and keeps cables in place
- Really easy to use
- 6 different colours to choose from
Have we used it?
Yeah, we’ve been using it for over 4 months now and honestly it makes things easy and provides a nice workflow to an otherwise hectic desk, not to mention a cable free floor.
Most laptop, tablet and smartphone cables fit the device. We have found that bigger cables like PC and TV cables do not fit but that’s besides the purpose, partly because it’s made for users with laptops and devices that are constantly being unplugged and moved around, partly because there will likely be follow up products in different sizes. We’ve also fit loads of phones in the basket and mobile stand, from iPhones to Samsung Galaxy's. The micro suction cups work well and don’t seem to wear and don’t leave any marks. One design restriction that does exist is that phones don’t sit very comfortably when you have a lot of cables going through the dock but it still works just fine and it’s not been too much hassle.
An Unjungle kit consists of these items:
1 x Unjungle dock
1 x Smartphone stand
2 x Black Velcro straps (see Update #5)

The funding goals?
We need your help to fund the money for the first batch order of products and packaging. Since the product is quite affordable and not too complex the goals are quite low. You will receive your rewards at most 3 months after project completion. You will be among the first to have the product considering it will only be for sale online and in local shops in August/September. The funding is based on the minimum amount of money needed to get the project up and running at competitive retail prices. Backers will pay less than retail price.
Below is a Gantt chart of the process.
With the success of this project will come subsequent ones on Kickstarter, we've got great ideas and the majority are stemmed from the flexibility of the design of the UnJungle cable dock, so things such as USB multi-port attachments can be added. We are exploring the idea of making the cable dock a base for building up of multi purpose desk units for organisation, a kind of building blocks approach hopefully making it fun and creative as well as useful. We would like to know your ideas and where you can see it being used so don't be shy, drop us a comment or two.
Risks and challenges
We will keep everyone updated with the process and you can be assured that the product will arrive in good condition. We can assure this because each package is verified and assembled by hand in the UK. Quality control is important to us and we want to make sure the best is achieved.
Like in all situations of mass manufacturing there can be potential delays but we can assure that none significant enough to cause concern. As for the quality of different elements of the product such as the plastic and rubber, we have been assured that the quality will be consistent and suitable certificates have and will be produced.
We take any assurances seriously and will treat any mishaps professionally and with the utmost efficiency
