Who am I?
Hello! I write scary stories. You may have heard my work on the world-famous NoSleep Podcast, on Shadows at the Door, The Grey Rooms, and Whispers in the Night. I'm also in the middle of production of two brand new audio-dramas of my own, Calling Darkness and Whisper Ridge. Oh! And in December 2018 I released my book, Cruel Works of Nature.
In short: I've been busy. And next on my busy-list is an idea I had several years ago, about a town that simply... disappears.
The town was called White Pines, and the novel deals with the nightmarish mystery that surrounds the place where it once stood. What about about the 1,346 people who lived there? What about the family and friends left behind? Why does no-one talk about White Pines? Journalist Megan Douglas is on a grim mission to find answers to questions the world has stopped asking.
White Pines will be available to the public later this year, as a novel, and audio-book, narrated by me.
That's great....er, why should I support you again?
I want to bring this book to my wonderful supporters as quickly as possible, by self-publishing. This is the best way for me to retain as much creative control over the novel as possible. I also plan to self-narrate the audio-book, and make it available on Audible.
Now, I know what you are thinking... self-published! Well, a good old DIY job doesn't necessarily mean inferior quality! I'm a great believer in creators owning their works as much as humanly possible, which sometimes isn't possible with other publishing routes. The freedom of self-publishing is wonderful, but don't worry: I still have obligations to quality. In order for me to bring to life the best possible book I can, there are costs that need covering, including cover art costs, website hosting costs, hiring a professional book editor, and hiring an audio engineer to help me with the audio book- not to mention eventual advertising and marketing fees.
So I'm appealing to my wonderful supporters to help me fundraise enough, via kickstarter, to allow me to cover the costs of the project ahead of time. This means I will be able to take this idea from a pipe-dream to a reality in 2019, rather than wait a few more years. In return, you'll get the paperback, kindle and/or audiobook, and even a special, hand-painted bookmark from me, depending on the level of support you pledge. This kickstarter is almost like a pre-order, if you like- upfront investment for a book of mine that hopefully you would buy anyway (she says, with all due humility).
Thank you for making it this far on this post! I promise I'll fill your eyes and ears with unspeakably horrible words in return for your support and love.
