-What's the story?
Whetherman is an independent folk music project that I started in 2007 as a solo artist. Since then, with a grassroots effort, it's grown through five studio albums and three nationwide tours without management, producers or booking agents. The most recent release, 'Streams and Pastures' (2013) has propelled the project into new elements of Americana, and has introduced additional members. The album recently has allowed Whetherman to be placed on Pandora Radio, named in Relix Magazine as an Artist on the Rise, as well as an invitation to tour in Europe for a month this coming summer. For this occasion and many to follow, Whetherman will be traveling as a trio with vocalist Rachel Murray and percussionist JP Salvat joining myself (Nicholas Williams) on the journey!
-What's the deal with the European Tour?
If you play music, you want to play music in Europe. The entire thing is booked, promoted and presented by Songs and Whispers (www.SongsandWhispers.com) located in Bremen, Germany. Over the last half decade, through their connections and relationships with all different types of venues, they've essentially built a circuit. Two artists/bands are invited from separate countries to perform at 15-20 appropriate venues throughout Germany and Denmark over 25 days. They get people in the seats, as well as present professional sound, lighting and live video. This is our first time booking through an agency, and we're happy that we've been paired with a well-traveled singer/songwriter from the UK named Emily Maguire for the May/June 2014 circuit. We'll also be extending our stay another ten days to perform in Amsterdam, Brussel, Paris, Madrid and Barcelona while we're in the neighborhood.

-So why do you need a Kickstarter if you've been invited?
Aside from performing, our task is to get across the pond. This is why we need your support! Pulling together the funds for plane tickets, traveling costs while in Europe, on top of all the merchandise needed out of pocket is not something we can do on our own. A majority of these shows are also not financial guarantees. Regardless, this is a welcoming opportunity that would grant us more connections and eventual tours overseas, and extend our listener base drastically.
-$13,500 is a lot isn't it?
You're tellin' us! But we're pulling out all the stops to make this experience worth it for all parties involved. Not only do we have new merchandise from Whetherman, but we'll also be rewarding with artistic treasures that some of our dear friends have created and donated! Have a look at these wonderful talents:

-Give me a good reason why I should I pledge to your campaign?
Aside from the fact that more people would buy a $5 cup of coffee than pay for an album anymore? :) Well, you definitely should do what's in your heart. Hopefully, you have a soft spot for something that has been built from the ground up without managers, promoters, labels or record companies. If you believe in the struggle independent musicians go through, maybe you'll find this project worth being a part of.
Lastly, our very talented friend/videographer named Alex Glustrom (see kickstarter video & www.vimeo.com/ajgmedia) will be joining us to document the entire experience! His creativity, our music, and the scenery provided will grant us on the spot live videos and beautiful photographs, so that everyone can see exactly what they contributed to!
Thank you for listening.
Thank you for watching.
And thank you for your time.
Risks and challenges
One unique challenge that could be faced is the amount of concentrated time in May, between touring the US and Europe, that will be the last push for shipping rewards that haven't already gone out. Luckily, the team I have put into place should have everything out ahead of that time. We're anticipating that everyone will actually have their physical rewards by the end of April, aside from the pre-orders of the coming album.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
