You’re a dog, walking in the park, peeing and pooping on poles, fire hydrants, garbage cans and tree trunks, but you’re not alone. There are other dogs out to steal your territory, and that goes against everything you know. So now the battle has begun, and you’re in it to win it. You’ll do anything to be the Top dog, including chasing squirrels, dodging cats, barking, fetching and so much more.
What the Woof™ is a casual family-friendly, dog-friendly and friend-friendly card game. The objective of the game is to have the most amount of territory cards in your hand at the end of the game.
There are 3 types of cards:
Each player gets two moves during one turn. For your turn you can either play a card into the discard pile or pick up a card from the deck.
Your goal is to have the highest number of territory points in your hand at the end of the game. Any action cards still left in your hand at the end count as negative points.
What the Woof™ is easy to pick up and play. It takes about 5 minutes to learn and 20 minutes to play. The game can be played between 3-5 people.
This game is inspired by dogs and made for dog lovers. To celebrate all the dogs in our lives, we decided to illustrate them in the game. We also wanted to make sure our backers have the chance to get their furry best friend illustrated into the game as well, and that’s why we’ve created a tier that allows you to do so.
We are all creatives at our own ad agency and crazy dog lovers. We created this game as a gift to all the dog lovers who have ooed and awwed with us over every passing pooch on the street. Chico, our cocker spaniel is our greatest inspiration for this game. It all started with him peeing on every pole on the street and spiralled out from there. This game is our passion project: it's our way of leaving the drudgery of work behind and using our creativity to do something we love. We have always dreamed about creating something beautiful and fun that people can incorporate into their lives: something that brightens up their day. What the Woof is our attempt to bring smiles on people’s faces. And since we're in advertising, a game where we could incorporate copy, design and illustration seemed like the best place to do it.
Also, we wanted a reason to put all our dog friends into a game. In fact, most of the illustrations in the game are inspired by the dogs in our lives.

Generally speaking, Kickstarter lets us raise money from lots of people so we can make and deliver our product.
It’s all or nothing: If we don’t meet our goal by the end date of this campaign, We won’t receive any funds (and you won’t be charged anything for pledging).
If we’re successful, you won’t be charged until the campaign closes - so pledging early is a big help! We know some people may want to wait to pledge until closer to the end of the campaign for financial reasons. Your payment method will not be charged until the campaign is completed, no matter when you choose to pledge. Pledging early is also a big help in creating momentum for the campaign!
Can I still pledge if you’ve already reached your goal? Absolutely! If we are fortunate enough to reach our initial goal, we’ll release additional “stretch goals” that will allow us to add more content and features to the game while producing more copies!
We’ve got a working prototype of the game with a box design and rulebook. We’re looking to raise money to print the game and distribute it. That’s where you come in.
While the game itself is 99% done. After the Kickstarter funds are raised, we’ll be adding a few new illustrations of anyone who wants their dog to be featured in the game. Then we’ll send the designs out to print our final prototype, followed by a full print run. We’re hoping to get the game to you by Christmas, but depending on how long it takes to print and ship, it may go a bit over. We’re happy to send you the digital version beforehand so that you can give a placeholder gift to your friends before the game arrives. We’ll keep you updated on every step of the printing and illustration process.
Here’s the cost breakdown.
- 6K Design and Illustration
- 6K Printing
- 2K Marketing
- 1K Barcoding
- 2K Trademarking
- $10-20 per game for shipping
We’ve covered as much as we can from our end (8k), and we’re hoping to get funded to do the rest with your help. The total cost is actually higher than 10k. So please help us cross the 10k mark so that we can fund the game to the best of our ability.
Risks and challenges
For the most part, the things that tend to slow down projects are manufacturing defects, shipping hiccups, and timeline miscalculations. We feel confident in our abilities in working through all these areas. If we experience unexpected delays, we’ll let you know what’s going on. Right now, the game is practically complete. We’re working to incorporate new illustration into the game as people pledge for their dogs to be added to the game. Then we’ll be working with an editor to make sure it is ready to be printed flawlessly, followed by printing and shipping.
If we meet our funding goal, you’ll be receiving a fun, beautiful and complete game that we hope you’ll enjoy as much as we do. Thanks for believing in us!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
