On October 15, 2002, the University of Texas' Daily Texan newspaper printed a comic strip called Whale to the joy of thousands. Did I say "thousands"? I meant one - me. But then it became enormously popular and then thousands of people actually loved it, so I was right the first time.
In the ten years since, Whale has won several awards, some of them real, others made up by me. It has seen lean times, great times, and it won several awards, as I mentioned. After graduation from the university, I had to leave the Texan and Whale was left without a home. Sometime later, a website was built to house Whale and his friends at whaleontheweb.com. And sometime even later than that, austinist.com picked up Whale for publication.
Now we're getting very close to Whale's 10th anniversary, and to celebrate, we're making a book! Not just any book, a book featuring Whale and his friends exclusively. The book will be paperback with about 130 pages, and feature all your favorite Whale comics plus lots of new, never before seen anywhere material that you'll only find in the book!
I'm expecting the book to be published and shipped before October 15, 2012. Get on board with me on this exciting project! I'm hoping to raise $4,700 in 40 days to complete this project, and your participation is key. There are great rewards to be had for your donations! Let's make this a fun partnership!
Thank you all very much. Your pal,
