If you're new to Kickstarter here's a quick review of how this all works.
This is an all or nothing no risk pledge based format. Meaning our project goal is to raise $3000 in 30 days by the many awesome pledge options to the right of this page. If we raise the funds in the allotted time fantastic, and you and the world gets a early taste of the Wet Dog designs. We can actually raise more funds then our goal. You want to see a happy Wet Dog that will do it? If we don't raise enough in the 30 days you loose nothing and you get your pledge back.
What is Wet Dog?
Glad you asked that question. Wet Dog is a character and one wacky little pup that is just ga-ga about adventures. It's also a philosophy and a way of life for my wife and I who are both artists and our dog who spend much or our time in or around the water due to the Adventure business we run in Fl. Wether it's paddling, hiking, camping, biking, etc we always feel like a Wet Dog. Don't you just love watching the excitement of our four legged friends as they pounce in the water or run through the woods without a care in the world? They seem to have boundless energy and pure endless glee when they get to play in the fresh air. The cool dogs don't care if they get mud on their paws or burrows in their fur. They just love life and want to explore as much as they can get away with. Well folks, we do too and that was the inspiration behind our art. (I bet some of you thought it was the oh so lovely fragrant smell of wet fur but you were wrong.) Actually my guide truck smells like a wet dog most the time.
"A few years ago, one of our customers had a small dog on the bow of his kayak during a trip. I laughed at the view of the wind pinning it's ears back as he tried to stay on top of the kayak deck. I went home and sketched out the image and made my first dog related print."
Over the years I filled sketch books with outdoor related scenes, many of the pages featuring this happy and humorous wet dog. I decided to turn the sketches into block prints because I like the high contrast and bold shapes of the medium. I showed the prints to our friends and customers and they encouraged us to print them on t-shirts. We printed up a few and they sold pretty well to customers after trips. I dreamed of taking these images to a different level like creating our own outdoor adventure apparel line. Then a friend introduced us to Kickstarter and the dream looked like it may have a chance to become a reality. We're hoping other folks out there who love the outdoors, jumping in puddles, rolling in the grass, or digging in the sand have an appreciation for our art and will help root for the underdog by offering a pledge. Any pledge size will help make this project a reality. A few years ago a smart man told me to keep things simple. We think the designs pop off the colored shirts. Who knows what might become of our wet dog designs?
Why do we need the money?
For one we're artists (me and my wife) and being a small family we don't want to take that big risk of printing up all the shirts not knowing if they will ever sell. Now this is where you come in. Your pledge gives you some cool shirts, and the warm fuzzy feeling of helping out a growing family to finally realize it's dream of their own outdoor apparel line. If you're like me you need to upgrade some of those old shirts to a happening new style and philosophy of shirt. Philosophy of Shirt?
We love the open pledge format and figure we can gauge whether people will like our style of shirts and art. Also this could be a way virally to get the brand out the masses. If you pledge you'll want to see this project be success and will most likely pass on the link to someone you know via email, facebook, twitter, or some other social media.
A word about pledging:
We are obligated to produce these perks for you if we reach our goal. Believe me I'm looking forward to making this happen for everyone. So take a shot and pledge if you see something worthwhile. After you pledge we'd be most grateful for a share this link or like on your facebook page. Take a gander to the right we have some great stuff to offer. Including great shirts, limitrd edition prints, private kayak tours, and an excellent chance at winning the $1000 New Kayak at our annual holiday paddle and raffle in December, (No worries we'll ship it to you if needed)
Wet Dog Logo
The key to every successful business is branding a simple recognizable logo. Your pledge will help us brand the name and logo of Wet Dog.
It is our goal to raise enough money ($3000) to get these designs silkscreen printed and out to other adventure and outdoor lovers to wear. We'd also like to print up note cards and prints and eventually stickers for your car, but first things first. If we see this starting to take off on kickstarter we may add stickers to the pledges. How much can they be? Also being a new Dad I thought that some of the designs would look cool on my sons shirts or maybe a Fathead type cutout for his room. Wait... that might scare him and I'm getting a head of myself here. That could be another kickstarter project. If there is any money left over, a website idea is in the works to help sell the designs and build the branding of Wet Dog.
