What is Birds Without Feathers?
Deep down most people know how they are but they don't accept themselves. We are glad to explore and break that idea. We wanted to shine a light on situations and characters that make poor decisions on the road to find what they really want- human connection.
We set out to explore, and create something out of pure impulse, and child like tendencies- you know, the ones we tend to mask as we get older. We combined a collection of really extraordinarily talented people, very venerable with an amazing cinematographer and director, forming .... Connection… Relationships… in a surreal plot where in these 6 characters pop in and out of each others lives giving them hopes of meeting Jeff Goldblum and becoming a stand up comedian, a door to door sales man, a public motivational speaker, and Janet Jackson- a surreal, dark comedy.
How did Birds Without Feathers begin?
Birds Without Feathers started with pure impulse- it's almost as though it started over night. Many failed projects led to Birds and that's why it took off so fast... over the course of a week we began this adventure.
Wendy (director) called Cooper (Actor/ Producer) Saying that she "got it!" And she literally had a script and characters ready to go, but didn't want to wait. She wanted to do it that week "Now"
It developed into something way bigger than we ever imagined. Writing inspired by the actors quirks and Wendy's odd vision of life and well.... manipulation of love, made every day spontaneous to say the least.
So we made a movie... Now what?
Originally the movie was set to actually be filmed and directed by Wendy but with a few Facebook posts and volunteers (our DP Nate Cornett) we got a cast and crew and locations for almost nothing.
Now that this self funded feature has been filmed IN THE CAN they say! The $9,000 it cost- paid for by Wendy McColm's pockets and co- producer Cooper Oznowicz (paid for all food and props what a help!) We are tapped.
We are seeking money for POST PRODUCTION to FINISH the film. Bring it to life...
Sound Mix $5,000+
COLOR CORRECTION $4,000 +
EDITING : $3,000 +
Festival Fees $1,500 +
We are not asking the full amount of what we actually need... that being said going over our goal will help us even more. But, are asking a decent chunk of it and this will keep up going and take us to the finish line on this film!
WHO IS HELPING?
We have many volunteers helping to finish the project in post for half the cost of what it would be normally. The following artists are lending their creative efforts and time to make this happen.
The Birds spending time on POST PRODUCTION:
POST COLOR (the big one) TBA
With the help of Bill and Susan we will save quite a bit but they still need to be compensated. Estimated cost for COLOR CORRECTION is about $5,000+ alone. Music we are hoping to find for a decent price, with help from Bill ( Susan and Bill are providing a major favor/ discounted work- as well as all who worked on the film) - not to mention the COST OF a final studio SOUND MIX after Bill cleans it up. THE TOTAL AFTER FESTIVAL SUBMISSION FEES in the end will be upwards of $15,000.
We would appreciate your support for getting this feature done, as it means a great deal to all involved. Also, it is truly a magical piece displaying much needed human emotion in this world- how it runs our lives and how we destroy it vs utilize it.

Behind the scenes look:
Why support independent filmmakers?
Hollywood sometimes... or perhaps often... spits out high-calorie, low-nutrition stories. We often leave the theatre these days still feeling hungry... For more human experience. For more characters like us. For more answers to questions we've had trouble answering ourselves.
Independent film doesn't answer to the lowest common denominator, or the highest funding dangled in front of us. It supports diversity in style and story; innovation in filmmaking and storytelling; and unique visions and voices in cinema. In indie film, there is a place for any filmmaker willing to look at ourselves, ask the hard questions, fan the flames of curiosity, and still consider humanity with empathy and compassion. As independent filmmakers, we tell the stories we feel need to be told. Right here. Right now. Stories that have meaning to our contemporaries. Stories that enlighten, educate, inform, and entertain. Stories that connect us with the other humans on the planet.
In Hollywood, filmmakers hear "No," a lot. We're asking you to change it up. Say "Yes!" to independent film by picking one of our perks and donating to Birds Without Feathers.
Your financial support, and your sharing of our story using social media, is so valuable to the making of this film.
THANK YOU - we can't this without you- The Lovers and The Dreamers
Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge is if we don't make this money we will have several hours of footage (27 full days) that may never see the light of day.
To reiterate... that is 5 months of work, creative and raw emotion that will never reach the surface. And may never reach young people- hell anyone- who could really benefit from seeing characters exploiting what society tells us is "wrong" losing a chance to see that they are not alone.
We are prepared to find ways to make this happen and submit to all the festivals desired, Sundance, Tribeca and SXSW being key targets.
From there, we hope to find an amazing Colorist up for the job- the only struggle at that point is hoping that are in fact good at what they do and reaching the final color before the last deadline for festivals.
WE ARE SO CLOSE! WE WOULD LOVE YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT!
We are asking under what we need, so in the end we will get this movie made and we will be working twice as hard to get this movie into festivals.
We are asking for a little help and we appreciate any and all donations.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
