The video above is a preview for Microvores: A Game of Parasites, coming to Kickstarter in October. This is the game that inspired the short story, and its Print and Play version is currently available as a reward on this project.
GRATITUDE: Hello, first we would like to thank you for taking the time to look at our project! We know there are a lot of things for you spend your time on, so we really do appreciate you for taking a moment to see what we are working on.
OVERVIEW: Currently, Wendigo Publishing & Consulting, LLC ("Wendigo") is working on a number of board and card games which we will be bringing to market in the near future. Our flagship game is Microvores: A Game of Parasites, which we had planned to be our first Kickstarter project launching this summer. However, while we were busy promoting and demoing Microvores at Dice Tower Con 2014, it was suggested to us that, while we had a cool game and theme involving micro-organisms, it might be challenging for some people to indentify with the theme and immerse themselves in the game, given the drastic differences between people and micro-organisms.
That got us thinking. Why not come up with a story that anthropomorphizes microbes in order to bridge the gap that might hold some people back from being able to immerse themselves in such a fantastic world.
So that's what we did!
OPPORTUNITY: At the same time, we figured why not take this promotional opportunity to not only introduce our own exotic microbial theme and game, but to also allow other game designers and creative folk to promote their own goods and services along with our own. As such, we decided to offer advertising space in our story, at what we think are more than reasonable rates, to help inform our customers of other new and amazing upcoming products, being developed and brought to market by our fellow designers, developers, publishers, and artists.
Wendigo plans to advertise, promote, and distribute Microvores: A Chemical Romance in a number of ways in order to ensure a decent circulation of the story and all ads therein, including:
(1) Part 1 as a free download, which will be encouraged to be shared.
(2) Parts 1 and 2, (and the sequel if it funds) as a free download for people registered for Wendigo's newsletter.
(3) Parts 1 and 2 to all backers of this Kickstater project, Microvores: A Chemical Romance.
(4) Parts 1 and 2 to all backers of our next Kickstarter project, Microvores: A Game of Parasites.
Wendigo plans to distribute the story through its own website, emailed newsletters, and its social media. Additionally, Wendigo plans on using all profits obtained from this project to purchase additional advertising to further promote the story directly and/or indirectly by advertising the Microvores product line, including the story complete with ads.
Without further adieu, here is the first few pages of Microvores: A Chemical Romance (a PDF of this Sample can be downloaded here too):

STRETCH GOAL: 150 + Backers
If we reach 150 or more backers total, then all pledge levels will also get an electronic Print & Play copy of Microvores: A Game of Parasites (black & white version - PDF file). The reward levels already getting a black & white Print & Play copy, will be upgraded to a color version instead.

Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter project, so please bear with us. We specifically created this project as our test case, so we could gain experience with running and fulfilling a Kickstarter project prior to the launch of our first table-top board game, Microvores: A Game of Parasites.
Hopefully, there should be no real issues, as the short story Microvores: A Chemical Romance has already been written. Moreover, we have already created a sample of the first few pages of the story, complete with formatting for receiving ads, so all that remains left to do, is to insert the ads into the document and make sure the formatting and layout remains aesthetic once published to an electronic format (PDF) for distribution by email or download.
Similarly, the print and play version of Microvores has been adapted from the full version of the physical game. So all that needs to be done with that is to distribute the electronic file (PDF), so that players can print and assemble it.
Only the "Immortality" Reward, could be subject to some delay issues, as the sequel to Microvores: A Chemical Romance has not yet been written, nor have any illustrations been created for it. Naturally, we would need input from the patrons who selected the Immortality Reward level in order to finish writing and illustrating the sequel.
