Do you want to see two long-haired performers being WELL LIT?!

- Then it can happen with your support.

About the project.

WELL LIT is a new dance production by Daniel Persson [SE] and Anders Duckworth [UK] that explores themes of gender and cultural identity, specifically investigating Duckworth & Persson's experiences as gender non-conforming people whose heritage shed light on complex issues of race, adoption and nationality.

The aim of the work is to highlight the mentioned topics from a visually stunning, comedic and thought-provoking viewpoint - with references to pop culture and the fashion industry, packaged in a dynamic danceperformance supported by set-design by Kit Hinchcliffe [UK], costumes by Alexander McQueen-designer Leonie Tschapalda [GE/UK] and original music by Camille Marchadour [FR/SE].

The piece was initially presented as a 30-minute try-out in the Robin Howard Dance Theatre in London 2018 and later performed as a short-work as part of Malmö Festivalen 2018 at Palladium in Malmö after a two-week residency at Danscentrum Syd during Spring 2018.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

WELL LIT has been a big stepping-board for Anders and I as danceartists and a learning curve. It is the first time we have pushed a project over three years (in total) previously with next to no support or funding. It's a personal piece, where we challenge ourselves as individuals and our perspectives on society and life, delivering a theatre-experience that both entertains and brings new elements of dancetheatre to the stage. We believe our story is worth telling and can relate to not only other non-conforming individuals but anyone who has ever had any questions in regards to belonging, acknowledgement and recognition.

This year, we finally managed to break-through and secure Arts Council England-funding as well as support through various residencies in both Sweden and the UK. Because of this we can dig deeper into the piece during the 6 weeks we are working at LDMG in Lund, Sweden, The Place in London, UK and Danscentrum Syd in Malmö between July to August as well as  in November with the intention to have a piece ready to premiere in 2020.

HOWEVER, there are yet expenses that we need help to cover and being this close to finalising the work your support is crucial for the last part of the process.

Your kind donation would allow us to get the following:

  • documentation and editing-material from our collaborating videographer Michelle Axelsson
  • travel-costs to and from the UK for Daniel in November to work in London for 7 days.
  • travel-costs (return flight for Anders in December where we will film the work in a theatre space and do a preview-performance)
  • music/sound production with professional recording equipment by Camille Marchadour
  • 2x Lapell Microphones to be used by Daniel and Anders in the performance
  • new curtain rail to be used as part of the performance (and backstage).
  • studio fees covered (2800kr)

For us, any donation is worth a lot and help us one step closer to our vision for this piece. We aim for a finished full length-piece that can premiere in Malmö and London during 2020 and thereafter tour both nationally and internationally.

Our promise is to make a piece that we will be proud of and which we hope can reach audiences beyond the conventional theatre-goers whilst also catering something fresh for the more established audiences.
