About this project
Help us manufacture our first collection!
Welkin NYC is inspired by the urban lifestyle and the pulsating magical energy that our city exudes. We make clothing for the independent child. We make clothing for adventurers.
For our first collection, we took inspiration from past NYC-based hip-hop movements, and pushed the boundaries when it came to color palettes normally used for children. We created a core collection of everyday basics that defy the typical “seasonal” rules of fashion. Our clothes are not disposable, but rather "season-less", meant to be worn and layered throughout the year. In addition to the core collection, a rotation of dresses, jackets, and special collaborations will be introduced!
When we thought about how much longer a piece of children's clothing could be used if it were designed to be worn and passed down amongst friends and siblings, boy or girl, we decided to create many of the pieces in our core collection with absolutely no gender stereotyping, so that they are 100% unisex. We hope that this, combined with the highest quality of manufacturing, extends the life and use of the pieces to make them sustainable on a whole other level. We are passionate about environmental sustainability, and create our line in a completely eco-friendly manner at every level of production. We use rich organic fabrics including certified organic, certified recycled, fair trade, hand-made, and “craft-preservation” textiles, and source our materials directly from the mills and makers. Our prints are made with petroleum-free vegetable-based inks, and our packaging and hang tags are made of recycled materials and water-based biodegradable inks. We do everything we can to leave our children a better world.
Our patterns are ready, our textiles are sourced, and our production team is waiting. With your help, we will be able to meet the minimum orders from the mills, order and ship our fabrics, and fund our initial production run. We've chosen to work with a manufacturing studio in NYC's garment district which respects and abides by fair labor laws. We've worked hard on our designs and samples, and have found ways to manufacture responsibly at every level of production. We've also teamed up with some amazing brands, including Piccolini NYC, DecalLab, Rose Marie Kitty Lou, and Sarah Dyer, to bring you exciting rewards! We can't wait to see our designs become reality, and we're asking for your help.
We are so grateful for your support and encouragement in bringing our dream to life! Thank you! Merci! Gracias! Toda!

Risks and challenges
Upon funding, we have a clearly defined pathway to making our project a success! However, one set back that could possibly arise is a delay in obtaining our fabric due to an extended lead time at the textile manufacturer. If the mills are delayed, out entire line's production could be delayed, too.
We are in constant communication with our suppliers and would be aware of an extended lead time prior to ordering. In this case, we would either find another fabric supplier, or release our line in two stages. We will be transparent and communicative with our supporters and followers the entire time and let them know about any changes of plans, and will never compromise our brand's sustainable integrity at any point.
