Gemstone Island - a Treasure Hunting Board Game

The King of Gemstone Island does not have an heir to the throne. Thus, he has set up a competition to determine who is worthy of being next in line as King or Queen.
To win this competition and thus become next in line to rule the island, you must be the first player to successfully bury a complete collection of gemstones. As you attempt to complete your mission, any of the following may happen: a hole in your sack, an earthquake, someone switching sacks with you (without your permission, of course), someone bumping into you and then picking up the gems you drop, or even another player digging up all that treasure you worked so hard to bury!
Recommended for ages 8+. For 2-4 players. Takes 30-60 minutes to play.

Note: Expansions and add-ons are only available for pledges at the $25 level or higher.
Below are three expansion sets for this game. Pledges at the $40 level come with one expansion set of your choice. To add the other expansions, or to receive them with the $25 and $35 backer rewards, you may either add $5 to your pledge per expansion set, OR make a pledge to What the Food Game (for the food cards expansion) and/or Zooligans (for the animal cards expansion). For example, if you choose the $40 backer reward and also place pledges to both What the Food Game and Zooligans you would receive all three expansion sets with your copy of Gemstone Island.

Food Card Expansion Set:
To receive this set of promo cards, pledge any dollar amount to What the Food Game, or add $5 to your pledge for this game. Funding for What the Food Game ends June 9th.
Throw Coconut - Use this card against any player and cause all the gems to spill out of their sack, kind of like a long-distance bump.
Throw Banana - Use this card against any player and cause them to slip and fall three spaces in any direction of your choosing.
Energy Drink (King's card) - Use this at the end of your turn to take a second turn!
Animal Card Expansion Set:
Raccoon - Use this against any player. Take two cards at random from their hand and put them in the discard pile.
Magpie - This bird likes shiny things. Use this card against any player. The bird just took two gems of your choice from their sack. Put the gems back in the draw bag.
Badger (King's card) - Use this card against any player. A badger just dug up their buried treasure. Move all treasure from their collection card to the space on the board where it was buried. That player then discards their Location card and draws a new one.
Complete the Crown mini-game:
To receive this (includes a 40 card deck and 6 counting chips) with your copy of Gemstone Island, add $5 to your pledge.
Complete the Crown is the "kid version" of Gemstone Island. Instead of burying your treasure, you are trying to collect all 8 pieces of the crown and the precious gems to match them to win the game.
For 2-4 players ages 4+
Set up: Take the main deck and separate out the Move cards from the Action cards. Set the Action cards aside and place the deck of Move cards beside the board after dealing four to each player. Each player should place their pawn on one of the four corners of the board, with no two pawns sharing a corner.
Then take the Location deck and flip over 6 Location cards. Put a counting chip on each square indicated by the Location cards and discard the cards. This is where the crown pieces can be found on the board. Younger children will need help with this part of the game.
On your turn: Turn over the top Move card to see how far you may move this turn. If you move across or land on any spaces with the crown marker on it, draw a card from the Complete the Crown deck. If you did not have a copy of this crown piece yet, place it face up in front of you. If you already have a copy of this crown piece in front of you, hold it in your hand. For every crown piece you picked up, flip over a new Location card and move the counting chip to that square.
If you pass another player's pawn, you may take one card from their hand.
At the end of your turn, draw a gemstone. If you have the card to match this gemstone, place it on that card. If you do not have the card to match (or if you have the card but it already has a gem on it), leave the gemstone on the board beside your pawn. If during your turn you move across any spaces with gemstones on them, you may pick them up following the same guidelines.
The first person to collect all 8 crown pieces and all 8 gemstones wins the game.
How to play Gemstone Island: Complete the Crown:
$7,000 - More cards in the King's deck
If we reach this stretch goal, the King's hand will be expanded from 10 cards to 20 cards. These are the cards that will be added:
Quicksand (x1): Draw 5 location cards and do not show them to the other players. If another player moves across or lands on one of these spaces, you may show them the Location card and let them know they have stepped in quicksand. If they touched the space while moving across it, this ends their turn. If they land on the space as the final part of their move, they lose their next turn. Discard each Location card after it has affected another player.
Treasure Map (x2): This card represents an old treasure map. Draw a Location card to see where the treasure is. If someone lands on that space, they found buried treasure and get to draw 4 gems from the bag instead of one. Since you know where it is, you have a decent shot of landing there first. After it has been landed on, discard the Treasure Map card and the Location card.
Draw 5 Cards (x3): Draw 5 cards from the main deck.
Buried Deeper (x2): When you move past your treasure, you may play this card to bury it deeper. Place this card beside your collection card. If someone lands on your treasure, announce that they have found your buried treasure, but they do not get your gems this turn and the Buried Deeper card is discarded. The next time your treasure is landed on, the person who lands on it will collect your gems. This buys you some time to either Relocate, win the game, or form another strategy for retrieving your gems.
Relocate (x2): Play this card to draw a new location card and relocate your treasure. You must move past your buried treasure and move the gems from your collection card back into your sack. Then carry it to the new location to put them back on your collection card. You do not have to do all of this on the same turn. This is a risky card as you may lose your gems in transit, but if you think (or know) the others know where your treasure is, it is likely worth the risk!
$10,000 - Thief
At this funding level, the Thief (a card and a pawn) will be added to the game. When the Thief card is played, draw two location cards and choose one to place the Thief pawn on. Place the Thief card face up beside the board. Place everyone's Sack cards and any gems on them beside the Thief card. Players must move to the space the Thief is on and give him two cards from their hand in exchange for a sack of their choice, including all contents. Until you retrieve a sack card, any gemstones you pick up on your turn must be left on the board.
The Thief is immune to all action cards. Earthquakes or bumps for example will not cause him to drop gems.
When all the stolen sacks have been retrieved, discard the Thief card and move the Thief's pawn off the board.

Risks and challenges
I've been involved in the printing industry for a few years now designing and selling a variety of products ranging from business cards to birth announcements. I have previously established business relationships with most of the companies I will be ordering through to complete this project and I am confident that I'll be able to produce and deliver a quality product. That said, every project has possible unforeseen obstacles. I do not anticipate any setbacks, but if something were to come up, I would be sure to keep in touch with all backers to let them know what is going on.
I did successfully produce a card game earlier this year with my daughter, called Matching Lions.
