What's All This?
It's a choosable pathway gamebook, just like those books you played as a kid (whose name is now trademarked), but with the bonus that you can collect weapons, fight monsters, and use your powers.
About the Project
I’ve been making a comic called Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal for the last ten years, and have been very fortunate to see it grow into a nice little community. As it’s grown, it’s gone from mostly short one-liners to longer strips to full-blown stories. As a result, I’ve had a lot of people request that I write a book.
Since I was about 12, it’s been a dream of mine to write an adventure game like the old Lone Wolf books by Joe Dever. Thanks to some encouragement from my publishers at Breadpig, I finally did it. “Trial of the Clone” is a comedy science fiction story set in the future. Think Douglas Adams, but meaner. It’s taken a lot of time to build many different tracks for players to take, and I think you’ll enjoy it.
The book will also have over 20 illustrations by the amazing Chris Jones, some of which we’ll be showing off here.
Our initial goal ($15,000) is listed in the upper right. That’s enough to cover a lot of the printing costs and shipping. If we don’t reach that goal, you don’t pay anything. If we exceed that goal, you may get other things beyond the stuff you've been promised!
We have a number of levels at which you can contribute, all of which are commensurate with what it costs to make the product. In addition to the regular paperback, we’re also working on an eBook version and a limited run of a hardcover version as well. This book is destined to change history, so having a hardcover is really a good investment.
We’ll also have signed postcards and posters at various levels. The poster will be a complete flowchart of the entire story!
If you’re a distributor or just have a lot of friends who are dorks, we also have levels at which you can get a discount for buying a whole bunch of books.
If we somehow reach $50,000, we will find some geek celebrity badass to do an audiobook, which will be sent for free as a bonus to anyone who gave $75 or more.
If we go way beyond our goal, there will be some additional offerings! If we reach $100,000, I will immediately start work on a sequel to be released in another Kickstarter this time next year. This book has been a lot of work, but if you geeks are that interested in my dirty jokes and stories, I’d be honored to do another.
Also, as a de facto bonus, if we sell more than a few thousand signed copies, my hand will shrivel up and fall off. If that happens, I’ll take pictures as the source of everything good in my life slowly melts away.
If I’ve Never Heard of Zach Weiner or SMBC, Why Should I Be Interested?
Because you like jokes and adventure stories, and being able to choose your own path in those adventure stories!
This book is the tale of a clone who finds out he’s chosen for greatness. In a path-of-the-hero adventure, he conquers over and over in the service of his country, only to meet... a twist ending.
So, if you like high fantasy and low humor, you’ll like this book.

So, as you can see, I’ve been doing stupid things on the Internet for a long time, and most of it has been given away for free! By buying this book and other products like it, you help buy me the time to keep doing fun geeky projects, and you help me to build this new world.
PS: If you happen to be Czech, nearly all the proper names in the book are dirty words in Czech. So, you should definitely buy it.
On a Personal Note
A lot of people have helped me realize my dream of being a cartoonist over the years. I’ve been one of the lucky few able to live that life, and I’ve tried my best to give back to the people who support me.
Many of my readers have asked me to get into prose writing over the years, and this is my first stab at it. I’d like to do a lot more of it, but it’s only possible with the help of all you gals and guys out there. So, please help me embark on a new phase in my career, and get some cool stuff in return!
