About

I'll never forget the day my daughter came home telling me that she wished she looked different. She cried as she asked why her brown skin, curly hair, and wide nose wasn't pretty to everyone else. Sadly, my baby girl was only four.

At the time, I was a young mom, and I was struggling to love myself, but it just seemed to be an instinct to tell her how beautiful and wonderful her uniqueness was. After smothering her with compliments, she cheered up and we went on with the rest of our evening. Because we both love books, it's not unusual for us to 'act out' the stories in our head, so that's what we did that evening.

My daughter pretended to be a superhero with magical powers that allowed her to change the world around her. Like most of the stories she created around that age, it was super long and had every Disney character in there that you could probably think of. However, her plot was phenomenal. This young superhero that had limitless power only focused on changing her appearance because everyone around her kept making fun of her. Towards the end of what felt like a never-ending story, she had the most innocent revelation. The superhero realized that if she changed all of the things that make her special - the people that love her would not be able to recognize her! At that moment, our heroine realized that she was made in the image of God and was perfect the way she was!

Her story inspired me so much, and I knew that more people needed to hear it. I helped her narrow down her plot, and once that was done, I just added my poet's touch by making sure the story rhymed.

Our illustrator, Michael Bishop, read the story and brought everything we needed to life. He helped us capture the story on paper in a way that I know our readers will love and enjoy.

Now, we just need your help! Every day, kids are facing issues of bullying, and it's time we remind them that they are perfect exactly as they are.

This is currently the working cover of the book, "Perfect the Way I Am," by eight year old author Khloe Bell.

Risks and challenges

All of the pages have already been illustrated and written. Also, we already have a designer in place to format the book to get it ready for print. I do not foresee any serious risks or challenges at this time.
