I'll second some interest in using the engine you've already made great for (the presumably much easier to license) Earthdawn world, too.
And I'm still waiting to throw money at you for a Denver game.
Really appreciate you guys keep working away on refining things, really appreciate all the effort. Games wonderful, and shows that!
I don't mind that its also a tablet game or w/e I think that creates that much more great ways to play the game, and presents it in a bit less competitive place, where it can shine more as the jewel it is.
It's the other way around too, we thank you for making shadowrun a modern thing again :D No more weird talks with people who thought the only shadow run was the fps... Great news. Happy Anniversary!?
I've got to say, of all the games I backed via kickstarter, you have been the most organised and professional. You've also made the most enjoyable game, but you're also the only one who have actually released your completed game of those I backed, so you have a bit of an advantage there. :)
I definitely felt that you were one of the riskier things to back because I hadn't heard of Harebrained at all. So, well done on making Kickstarter model work for you and thank you for the awesome game! And I'm looking forward to what you do with it in the future!
I'd like to add my voice to those asking for an Earthdawn game... That was one of my favorite worlds in the old days of PnP.
Great news. Are you gonna do the same for Dead Man's Switch? I found the story and characters were more compelling in DMS, but obviously the overall mechanics and length are far superior in Dragonfall.
If DMS got a Director's Cut, you might sell more copies of DF too, since people have to buy DMS first. ;)
Sweet! That means I'll play Dragonfall when the Director's Cut comes out. I just never had the motivation to play before, and I should have interest again by then. :D
Seriously though, the reason I hadn't played Dragonfall yet was because I burned out on serious games for a while, and I'm just getting back into playing them now. I do look forward to the updated release, and am glad to see there's work going to improving what is likely an already fun campaign for a very enjoyable game. :)
Wiz. Thanks guys!
Wow, you guys are nuts.
It was great to get back into the Shadowrun universe, but the Dead Man's Switch did feel a bit shallow.
Dragonfall was a marvelous improvement. I thought that the writing was great for both DMS and Df, but what I appreciated about Dragonfall the most was the variety of missions (and I especially liked the stealth component of one of the missions).
You all have done a great job. Thanks for keeping it going!
I have to say, I backed almost 20 projects in kickstarter and this project is one of the best projects. Harebrained really cares about the backers. I will, for sure, back another game from you guys. BTW, time for the next project :).
Was hoping to buy another dlc or something.. then this come up..
Wow..then I have to play dragonfall again after this standalone release!!
Amazing! Thank you~
Well TBH my opinion is a very personal one and shouldn't overall be taken *that* seriously :) since I am still quite a huge fan so here we go
This has me feeling a bit bummed and my time wasted. Now dont get wrong I am a superfan and generally would love to see more Shadowrun from HBS and Jordan. I do feel like though that this wasted the time that I spent playing through and inferior version in the first place. These days gaming time comes at a premium and all devs need to be aware that many gamers have backlogs, some going back years and then there's the mess created by all those Steam sales. Its something that all devs will need to pay attention to going forward since "make the best game you can possible" isnt going to be pulling the industry out of this mess. This is all heartbreaking for me to say but the reality of things.
Hopefully we dont have to play through the whole thing again or we can load our ending save with some kind of timeline feature or ability to run around in the open world and hit up JUST the new content. Like one of the other commenters said, DMS could use this treatment far more than Dragonfall.
Being *respectful* of gamer's time (something which MMO endgames do a poor job of) is the new "paradigm" going forwards espec for the industry. People whose time have serious value (and those who wouldn't even blink at the pricing of video games) are all NOT playing video games, people who have families AND very busy and well paid professional lives are saying the same thing. *They don't have the time*. This is all lost opportunity and lost market to sell into. Food for thought as to why mobile keeps growing and core revenues and studios are going the opposite direction.
Great news and deeply appreciated!
I'll echo some of the other comments, liked the game, loved the expansion, wanting more campaigns! Expanding on the combat to really make it something special would help the game no end. Making a true sand-boxey Shadowrun experience for a campaign (main thread story mission with *lots* of sidequests and optional stuff) would be the ultimate. I'd gladly back another Kickstarter for these things.
Excellent news. Not *just* because of the new and improved version of Dragonfall, but also for turning out to be one of the *VERY* few game companies that seem to actually respect their fans and customers. A move like this buys a whole bunch of good will from me and my fellow gamers. Especially since more and more companies are turning out to be.... ah, why spoil this post with too much negativity ;)
Deeply appreciated, but I do hope you guys won't be too in the red from offering this to us for free!
Well, that's probably the best video games news I heard this year so far.
I truly enjoyed the first campaign and certainly loved Dragonfall. And HS is telling me they're back for more? For free? Well, I know what I'll be playing in September then.
In all seriousness, from the first blunders to the situation you're here today, you guys truly grow as a studio and a company. I didn't find myself interested in Golem Arcana but I'll certainly check all your next games.
On this subject, new IPs are cool I wouldn't be against another campaign, or heck, maybe a new Shadowrun game. Why stoping with a fictional universe when people love it like that? Your writing and your atmosphere are great and that's something uncommon in video games today.
It's awesome that after you grew from a smallish studio to a bigger one, you still care big time about the gamers out there. I also think you should take some money for this, to be able to do more stuff like this or a new DLC or develop another new system or bring out a PC Golem Arcana game :)
It seems you go the way of CD Project RED. They started with an ambitious title (The Witcher), failed on some aspects and then delivered enhancements for free over a quite long period. And that's why fans love them.
So my gratitude to you: after a quite disappointing start ("Dead Man's Switch" could have been so much more, save game problems...) you followed up with enhancements and a quite good Dragonfall. And now you come up with the next free overhaul. You are going the right way. It may be more work now, but this will ensure you a solid customer base for the future. Count me in :)
This is how game Devs should be, focused on making their art better, not on money grubbing, and that is exactly what Dragonfall and even Dead Man's Switch are, art. It has been an honor backing this project and I will definitely keep an ear and eye out for future projects from Harebrained Schemes.
You guys are absolutely based! Doing everything right that a developer should. Looking forward to having another reason to play Dragonfall again. I got 100+ hours out of SRR, another 50+ or so from Dragonfall and I intend to get the same again from Dragonfall Directors Cut. As a die hard fan of proper RPGs, I say that this is already one of the best new games I've played in the last ten years, and the DC will just improve that quality. Not only that, but as an early backer, SRR has easily been the best value for money I've gotten from gaming in a long, long time. Thank you again.
You have come a long way since the DRM debacle a while ago. It's great to see you listened to your backers with added features, fought for keeping SRR DLC DRM free, and now you're providing even more content for your existing customers.
I believe you have moved up to the ranks of CD Projekt Red and Frozenbyte. I look forward to see what you produce next.
Wow... just wow. I am glad I backed you guys, and would do this again any day!
Very cool! I look forward to anything Shadowrun-related you throw at me.
Since I seem to be the only one, I want to point out that I exist: I prefered the first campaign :P (but loved both)
Just wondering... Is this version going to be compatible with user-generated content from the original?
Now I'm sorry that I didn't back the project.
This is wonderful news; your continued support for the backers is extremely generous. It was a pleasure to back this project, and thank you for all you have done, and continue to do. Happy anniversary for the project, and thank you!
I was super happy with Dragonfall, looking forward to see what you add to it. Are we going to see mooooore? :D
What a great update - thanks heaps! :-)
If you keep making these games based upon our feedback, then we will keep buying them! Shadowrun is an amazing world and you not only provide a great game, but you also provide a great fix to those of us who have fallen in love with that world. Please, don't stop!!! :)
Dragonfall was very, very good, a marked improvement over the core game campaing. And now we're getting an enhanced version of that? Awesome :). Now I can move on to hoping for a new campaign, some time down the line.
And thank YOU for delivering 100% and giving us such a great game!
What a great proof that you don't need fancy 3D bullshit for making good games.
I'm very much looking forward to what you come up next :)
Sound great! Thanks, Harebrained Schemes! I kinda got distracted and stopped playing when the main story paused and i had to do what seemed like filler content to make money to continue main story. Haha. Will definitely try again when director's cut comes out.
As much as I loved Dragonfall, I hope you will also announce brand new stories in August :)
Happy customer here. Just make another DLC and I'll be happy to spend some $$ on it :P
I'm very happy to hear about the expanded Dragonfall campaign! As everyone else, I would also be happier if you make another Campaign. I really don't care about paying for it, as far as it's as good as the first 2. I understand that both were based in SR third edition, but I would really like to see a version based on fourth or fifth edition: I mean, dated in 2075 with the corresponding new stuff, VR and wireless matrix. Maybe it's impossible to do with the engine of SR returns, have no idea.
Very nice to hear! I really hope all the good reviews and success has proven to the HBS team that if ever an IP needed a long run of single player computer games made Shadowrun is it!
Like many others, I hope HBS releases more stories as well.
My one concern with the new stand-alone Dragonfall is how it might split the community. Right now we have exactly one location where custom stories by community members goes; with a stand-alone Dragonfall will that end up being two? Will the original receive the same improvements as the stand-alone Dragonfall? And so forth.
Great news, thanks guys. Keep up the good work !
...what about a german translation for Shadowrun Dragonfall? Or is there at least a chance to see it for the directors cut?
Will there be an iOs version of Dragonfall?
@Brynjolfur Yes, HBS has stated a few times they're still working on the tablet version of Dragonfall (iOS and Android), but they haven't publicly announced a release date yet. ^_^
I have to say, that I have not even touched Shadowrun past the first couple hours, the whole no save and lack of map really pissed me off, and even though I am a backer I won't be touching anything else
I also never even got dragonfall
@Justin HBS updated Shadowrun Returns with Save Anywhere quite awhile ago.
And, if you didn't see your Dragonfall keys in your email, just contact HBS via email@example.com and they'll hook you up. Remember to use the email address you backed the project with so they can confirm your backer status. In addition to Steam keys, for DRM-free Dragonfall, you can get a GoG.com key, and for Linux, you can get a Humble Store key. ^_^
@RC I was unaware of the save feature, I'll look through my 3000 emails, haha
azog, sword-wielding ork samurai, only 312 kills. a bit disappointing, that's way off batou (troll samurai/minigun, 334) and equilibrium (elf samurai/slapdash pistol, 336). on the other hand, holding ground against the communion in the saeder-krupp lab was a lot of fun. and a katana-swinging madman on kamikaze is almost as effective as blockading the entrance with walls of hellfire and lightning.
also, i'm so damn proud of kim right now.
I cant wait to back a new shadoowrun game from hbs.
This directors cut is a good move, spreads the word aboit the game before the next kickstarter.
Lets not forget they have to deal with the licenses, and their success is probably also rising the price of this license.
Go HBS you rock
