Dragonfall Trailer, Screenshots & Release Date

We are excited to announce that the first Shadowrun Returns expansion, Shadowrun: Dragonfall, will be released on February 27, 2014 at 10am PST. Tomorrow, we’ll release the official trailer and screenshots to the general public, but we want to share them here with our Backers before the rest of the world gets them.

(Fullscreen it in HD for the full effect!)

For many more screenshots and more product information, please visit the official Shadowrun: Dragonfall page:

The Dragonfall development team pushed incredibly hard to hit our original January release window and our playtests have been a lot of fun! However, a few rough edges still remain, and we’ve decided to extend our polish and bugfixing time to ensure that we deliver a great Shadowrun experience. We know you’re excited to play the game and we’re confident this will allow us to ship the best campaign we can!

Shadowrun: Dragonfall will be FREE to Backers and you will receive the same number of keys you received for Shadowrun Returns. For everyone else, Dragonfall will launch at $14.99 - in fact, it’s now available for pre-order on Steam at Please help us spread the word!

In other Shadowrun Returns news...

Shadowrun Returns Beta Version 1.2 is LIVE

We want to make sure you all know that the Beta for Version 1.2 of Shadowrun Returns is now LIVE on Steam. This version includes the new and improved Save Game functionality, including the ability to save in the middle of scenes, and a variety of fixes and improvements to the core game. If you’re interested in looking under the hood at those changes, be sure to read the Release Notes located on the Shadowrun Returns forum here: And feel free to jump into the Beta to help us test it! Here’s the best place to report any bugs you find.

The update will be released to the public alongside the Dragonfall expansion, but v1.2 does not require the purchase of Dragonfall to use.

Localization Update

The German translation of Shadowrun Returns is still in process but has been delayed due to some production hiccups. We are working with our localization partner to ensure a high quality translation, and look forward to releasing it in an update that will coincide with the release of Dragonfall. As an added bonus, we are happy to announce we will also release a Russian and Chinese translation at the same time, February 27th, 2014!

As always, thanks for the opportunity to make this happen. We’re excited to get all of our hard work on Dragonfall into your hands next month!

Sorry if this has been asked before, but is this release date going to be across all platforms or will some platforms come later as with the original release?

mh, somehow I managed to post an update(the one with the youtube link) on the wrong comment section - why can't I delete it myself? :/

    9. Christian Steudtner on January 30, 2014

New update that answers some questions that are asked here (… )

      (in short):
      1) Why IGG: PayPal
      2) Flexible Funding: Season 3 will happen either way
      3) How to upgrade your pledge-tutorial

    10. Christian Steudtner on January 29, 2014

      @HBS Account website:
Would it be possible to put up some version number which game version is available to the website? It would be much simpler to see: "Ah, currently that is version X.Y.Z, the same I have - I don't need to figure out whether it is newer or not" instead of - well - figure that out myself by downloading it (File size is a good clue, but not really good costumer service imo, since I at least have to start the download to see the file size).

    11. LuckyLuigi on January 29, 2014

Seriously psyched up for this ! :)

    12. RC on January 29, 2014

      Hoi Chummers!

Awesome interview on DieHard GameFan with HBS's Mike McCain!

Warning, he drops some of the intro plot of Shadowrun Dragonfall! So if you want to be surprised when it releases, you may want to skip this one! Otherwise, it's TOTALLY WIZ, Chummers! ^_^

    13. RC on January 29, 2014

...err that was supposed to say the HBS Account website ^_^

    14. RC on January 29, 2014

      Hoi Wynand!

All the other backer rewards have been shipped by now. If you haven't received yours, drop HBS an email via - also, do you have your digital rewards via the HBS Account (Shadowrun Returns game, Steam keys, Soundtrack...etc?) ^_^

I hope you consider making more campaigns after this. I'd certainly be willing to drop $15 once or twice a year for more of them.

    19. Atticusmj on January 28, 2014

Will we be geting a copy also?

    20. Harebrained Schemes LLC 4-time creator on January 28, 2014

Hey All - To clarify the question of your party - In Dragonfall, you'll be creating your own main character and commanding a fixed team of runners as shown in the trailer. There are a couple runners that may or may not end up on your team, depending on choices you make during the campaign.

In addition to your "core team", there will be a small set of mercenaries available to hire for missions where you might want a runner with skills not represented in your core team or main character.

    21. Chet on January 28, 2014

A new party, this comment in the trailer is unsettling. I hope we aren't force fed a pre made party.

Well, lookin' good; lookin' forward to it (and Hongkong after it /fingers crossed). :)

    23. Adam Taylor on January 28, 2014

So, do we get to create our party from scratch? Or are we forced to use the characters shown in the video?

    24. RC on January 28, 2014

I'm sure there's a lot more to see, Chummer. But really, office buildings, slums, and stately manors in cyberpunk settings do tend to have a similar theme. It's when we get to specifically identifiable locations known to us, major landmarks, or inside culturally reflective buildings (homes, museums) that we really see something "very" different.

I think the images presented are an attempt to show off more of the gameplay differences, like new portraits, new NPC models, new FX. Based on the older screenshots (museum...etc) I'm guessing we'll see the change in vibe as we see more of them game itself.

And usually, the vibe of a city is in its architecture and its people. Many of the cities I've been to on different continents, have sections that are almost identical to each other, until you see the people, or notice the signage, or move away from those areas. Financial districts, warehouses, and many industrial locations are all pretty much superficially the same in many cities today. It's when you explore a little more, that you get a feel for what's different. But, I hope as we see more of the game, we also get to feel the difference you're looking for, the vibe of a new location in the game, the soul of Berlin. ^_^

      Tim on January 28, 2014

@RC: Yes I saw them.. but also these are not exactly different. The vibe is exactly the same in my opinion. Even in 50 years time from now the vibe from an american city is different to a german city or an asian city.

    26. Joshua R on January 28, 2014

Super, duper cool. Love the new looking scenery and some seriously scary looking mobs in there. Can't wait!

    27. Phil Jefferson on January 28, 2014

Awesome. The original campaign was a ton of fun, so I can't wait to see what you've done with Berlin!

    28. Zombra on January 28, 2014

      Cool! Looking forward to it!

    29. RC on January 28, 2014

      Hoi Tim!

Did you see the older screenshots from Berlin? There are new props, scenes more identifiable to Berlin, though keep in mind this is not the Berlin of today, it's set in a stable anarchy of Berlin's 2050's flux-state. I think they just don't want to visually give away too much, too quickly as they have a month of promoting to do before release ^_^

      Tim on January 28, 2014

Don't understand me wrong. Great, that we get the Berlin expansion. But.. honestly when I look at the screenshots it looks exactly the same as the normal game. I really thought that Berlin would get other props, a really different setting. But perhaps they did not show off the new things..

      Nice update, thanks!

    32. J.R. Raith on January 28, 2014

Great trailer! Looking forward to trying it out!

    33. Ammariel on January 28, 2014

Can,t wait to play it ;) i dig the release date too lol

    34. Alexandre MANGIN on January 28, 2014

Good news. My pledge is starting to be rewarding.

    35. Tobi (Crusader Kickstarter pls!!) on January 28, 2014

awesome!!! i hope for many many more DLCs and games based on the engine you guys have created!

    36. RC on January 28, 2014

      Hoi Jay!

I bugged them about Dragonfall mechandise back in Nov? Dec? HBS said they don't have the license for merchandising. I'd love a hoodie with the Dragonfall movie poster style image on the back (as seen in Update #67 ) - with the Dragonfall logo on the front left chest, and maybe a t-shirt, and (unfolded) poster! ^_^

    37. RC on January 28, 2014

      Hoi Gonchi!

On HBS's website, they mention Dragonfall will be available on GoG, very last sentence ^_^

Also, good question about the music! ^_^

    38. Brantley Love on January 28, 2014

The beta version is a wonderful glimpse at what to look forward to, I am very happy there is finally a save system. I've already submitted a bug report, actually.

    39. British on January 28, 2014

On one hand it's good to know that Dragonfall is coming.
On the other hand it's always a huge PITA when Betas are limited to Steam...

    40. Gonchi on January 28, 2014

Really dug the trailer music. Is it part of the new soundtrack by Sam Powell that was mentioned some updates back? I asked back then whether backers would receive it as a digital download, but didn't get a reply.

Also, Dragonfall is coming out on GOG too, right? Didn't see a mention in the update or the trailer itself.

    41. Adam Taylor on January 28, 2014

So... wait... is the party we use for this game preset? Or do we still get to make guys from scratch?

Is the trailer music from the Dragonfall soundtrack? Dead Man's Switch had a great score, but this is excellent stuff!

    45. ET3D on January 28, 2014

Great news! I'm waiting for 1.2 to come to Android.

Wow, the music is surprisingly excellent!

    47. Paul Andersen on January 28, 2014

I can't wait for this. I played the OC so many times that I'm ready for something new. (I know, I know... I should try some more custom content. There's some good stuff there, but the in depth stuff takes a bit of time to create.)

    48. Devonathan on January 28, 2014

I'm glad I decided to read the rest of the update after watching the trailer. I almost went on Steam to preorder the expansion! Thanks HBS!
