What We’ve Been Up to Since Launch!

It’s hard to believe an entire month has gone by since the launch of Shadowrun: Hong Kong. It has been quite a whirlwind and we didn’t want too much time to go by before we let you know what we’ve been up to.

Shadows of Hong Kong Mini-Campaign
The Shadowrun writing, design, and art teams are moving full speed ahead on the upcoming Shadowrun: Hong Kong mini-campaign. Set in the weeks following the events of SR:HK, the mini-campaign will give you - and your team - the opportunity to turn the tables on the corrupt cops who once hunted you. Through layers of corporate greed and urban strife, you will contend with powerful enemies, uncover a deadly conspiracy, and cement your reputation as a Prime Runner... assuming that you survive, of course. The SR:HK mini-campaign is due to launch early in 2016, and will be free to all Kickstarter backers at the $15 level and up.

A New HBS Shadowrun Series Wiki!
For our UGC creators (or wanna-be UGC creators!), alongside the release of the game, we also launched a new Wiki! You'll be able to find information covering all three Shadowrun games, the Level Editor, and User Generated Content (UGC). The core game sections have information regarding the missions you'll run, the NPC's you'll meet, items that can be acquired, and much more. (Beware of spoilers if you haven't finished your first play through!)

The Wiki also includes tutorials and information about the Shadowrun Level Editor. While we've covered the basics, the more interesting tutorials have always come from community members trying things that we never imagined! If you’re interested in trying to create your own mission, this is a great place to start.

Digital Rewards
In addition to the mini-campaign, we’re also working to make sure the remaining digital rewards are delivered on time. Mel Odom is making good progress on the eNovel and our friends at Catalyst Game Labs are working on both the Panorama Poster and the Sourcebook. In the meantime, we’re pulling together the Audio Commentary, Digital Map and the annotated version of Into the Shadows. We’ll let you know when they’re available in your BackerKit account so you can download them.

Physical Rewards
We’re also happy to report that the Messenger Bags and SR:HK Figures are on a ship making their way to our fulfillment house. We anticipate they will arrive toward the end of October and then we’ll begin to ship them out. If all goes well, everyone should have their bags and figures by the middle-to-end of December.

In preparation for this, we’ll be sending out an email from BackerKit soon so you can confirm your shipping address. After you receive it, you’ll have 48 hours to confirm or make changes before we lock down that information so please don’t delay in responding.

If you are an International Backer, we will be charging your shipping fee to your BackerKit account. If BackerKit already has payment information on file, you will be automatically charged. If you do not, we will follow up with an email soon telling you when and how to add that information to your account.

Fan Reactions and Reviews
It’s been great to see how you’ve enjoyed the game and reacted to the story and characters - not just on the Kickstarter page but on our social media channels and in the emails you’ve sent us.

We also love to see how our work has prompted so many people to use their creative energy in support of the game. If you make fan art, be sure to share them with us on the Harebrained Schemes Facebook page so everyone can see them.

And we’re glad to see so many people participating in the jivebot fun on Steam, Facebook and Twitter like this:

We’ve also gotten some great press reactions! Here are some quotes that really made us smile:

"In year to come people will be comparing the new cRPGs to Hong Kong, because it’s easily a benchmark for what developers in the RPG arena should be looking at when designing their games.” Hardcoregamer

“The game is gorgeous, and cyberpunk fans will find a lot to like in the neon signs and hissing pipes of Hong Kong’s busy backgrounds.” idigitaltimes

“I’ve been playing Shadowrun: Hong Kong this week, the latest [expansion/new game/whatever they want to label it] from Harebrained Schemes, and it’s a bit like pulling on an old, comfortable pair of cyberpunk-approved leather pants.” PCWorld

Just finished HK this morning and had a blast all the way trough.
Funny enough the first thing I did after each mission was to go and check the bbs for new post's, it was just too much fun for being a made up forum.

All in all I liked the story and followers the most in DF while HK wins out in the new gameplay and I felt that SR had the superior ingame writing(dialogue, descriptions and such) even if the main story don't compete with the other two.
Special thanks for DF, not often a game leaves me thinking about it for so long after finishing it!

Looking forward to the mini campaign and would love if you added romance to the game.
Don't have to be between the player and npc's(but yes please), just for there to be some love somewhere in the world.

Working my way through HK now, and i'm having a blast. I especially love the changes to Decking/Matrix stuff.

Honestly, I made the great error to start HK immediatly after DF. Sadly, it was so deep... that now i'm thinking just to Glory quest to find her hold master, or if my char and Eiger will ever have a romance!
So far is good, but is not taking me like DF. Also... there's anything planned for some serious romance in the next mini campaign?

Looking forward to the new mini-campaign. Feels like a chance to tie up some loose ends.

That said, please bring on more QA testers and script editors this time, and give them the time to do their thing before pushing the game out the door. I thoroughly enjoyed SR Hong Kong, but the times when the writing hit a snag or the game tripped up on simple stuff really took me out of the experience. There were a few examples of this in the mid- to late-game, but it got really bad on that last run int he Walled City. Cases where the dialogue and action text were the same colour, having text from one character while a different one's portrait and name were shown, and just wrong words in the line, screwing up the sentence, these feel like rookie mistakes, so I hope that the next installment is given more QA time and sharpened as much as it can be, and then I hope that those editors tale a few weeks to polish up Hong Kong.

Just my thoughts. Looking forward to seeing the new Kickstarter. I'm not familiar with BattleTech, but I'm open to anything

There is a splash hint/comment on one the loading pages, something like: Jack of all trades, is the master of none. I am not interested in BattleTech, and by the time you get back to Shadowrun, I won't be interested in that either. Heck, I could care less about Shadows of Hong Kong anymore.

I won't say HBS is a bad company, or bad mouth them in any manner, they are just going a route that no longer interests me.

BATTLETECH!!! I'm on board, please don't screw it up HBS!

Just as a note to others: I haven't received the e-mails mentioned above so far, but after logging in to BackerKit was prompted for the missing payment information for the international shipping fee. Where I would also have been able to change my shipping address.

Looks good - cannot wait till the mini campaign is released. Any word on the next update? I've been putting off playing the game due to the number of bugs I've encountered and seen reported: I want to enjoy the game as thoroughly impossible!

Thanks for the update, guys! I got distracted from Hong Kong for a little while there, but I'm going to buckle down and finish it soon. These games just keep getting better!

    19. alcaray on September 18, 2015

      @HBS:

Oh hey, I just had a brainstorm/brainfart: you could make a slightly updated version of The Crescent Hawks Inception and give it out for free, to publicize the new Battletech. I think inXile had great success with their re-publish of Wasteland I.

    20. alcaray on September 18, 2015

      @Felipe Machado,

If you like turn-based combat rpgs (and if you are very tolerant of old old games) then go here and get the first pc crpg rendition of Battletech:

      http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/86/BattleTech+-+The+Crescent+Hawks+Inception.html

You will, of course, need Dosbox or another DOS emulator to play it.

Sounds to me like this mini-campaign won't be so mini... With all the plot points they've just mentioned, it sounds to me like it'd be another 8+ missions, which would easily go past 15 hours of gametime. Fingers crossed, anyway.

Was really, really happy with SR:HG, the story was top notch and really bonded with my characters. Glad to see a mini-expansion, would be nice if we could have a full on expansion about the same length as SR:HK with the current character and team.

Jordan is grinning ear-to-ear. This is exactly what we've been after - to help new people fall in love with the worlds WE LOVE. We intend to make new people fall in love with BattleTech because it's a great game universe. You made our day.

Really looking forward to those e-mails for my physical rewards! Can't wait to receive my figurines.

As far as reviews go, I think there are missing quite a few, e.g. the one in c't (German computer magazine) http://www.heise.de/ct/ausgabe/2015-20-Spiele-Rollenspiel-2793322.html and the longer online version in the Linux Gaming blog of c't http://www.heise.de/ct/artikel/Linux-Gaming-Shadowrun-Hong-Kong-2810400.html

    29. Felipe Machado on September 18, 2015

Well... I wasn't a Shadowrun fan before Shadowrun Returns... To be honest, I've had never even heard of it before I heard about that game...
I bought the game because it was turn-based combat and because I was reading everywhere that the game resembled a RPG, because of the skill checks...
After I played, I fell in love with the world...

Even if people say that Shadowrun Returns is the least good of the 3 games, it holds a very dear place in my heart... Because it introduced the Sixth World to me.

All of that to say what?
That I don't know Battletech either... But I'll definitely take a look at it... Because I trust you guys!

Looking forward to the messenger bag. Too bad it won't make it in time for my local gaming con in mid-late October. Null persp; just like my software, I'd rather have quality than speed.

    32. NinjaDebugger on September 18, 2015

Holy moly. Please, please, please make unit/nation patches a thing for the battletech KS. Messenger bags and t-shirts are great for some people, but not for everybody, and I'd love some battletech flash for my own stuff.

"...assuming that you survive, of course"

@HBS: I am hoping that the difficulty is ramped up quite a bit in SR:HK since it will be for our veteran Shadowrunner. That's my main criticism of SRHK... The combat becomes too fraggin' easy, even on hard. I want "hard' to be hard.

    35. Paul F on September 18, 2015
