Third perk wave, that is!
Introducing the We Are The Union Skacade Stick!
Woah! What is that thing!?
The We Are The Union Skacade Stick is a one-of-a-kind, plug-and-play game controller - with a fully functional Raspberry Pi game system inside - covered in amazing custom graphics by the one and only Justin Gray. This thing is seriously awesome. Keep it for yourself, or make it the perfect holiday gift for your ska + retro gaming loving friend or family member. Works with any TV or monitor with an HDMI input (not included).
It's a new We Are The Union record, just for you!
Well, we did it. We made a new record. It's called 'Self Care,' and it's our first full length in six years. We worked really hard on it, and with the help of our amazing producer Jon Graber, pushed ourselves to create 12 songs we truly love, and we can't wait to share them with all of you!
Now with 100% more horns!
That's right! We've recruited the incredibly talented Jeremy Hunter AKA Skatune Network to join the ranks of We Are The Union. With Jeremy on our team, we filled 'Self Care' with all the horn parts you could ever dream of. We even brought on some friends to play sax and trumpet, including Vince Walker from Suburban Legends!
All backers will now get a digital download of "A Better Home"
So smash that pledge button right now to get your download and be part of the 'Self Care' crew! We'll send out your download within 24-48 hours of your pledge.
"What's in it for me," you ask?
We're offering a bunch of cool perks, including:
What kind of exclusive content will there be?
Great question! We'll be sharing behind the scenes footage from the studio & commentary videos, as well as answering your questions via backers-only AMAs, AND you'll be able to participate in our game-with-the-backers livestreams! Anyone can watch, but you must be a backer to join in on the fun. There will be Mario Kart 8 Deluxe debauchery, Fortnite squad madness, and more!
So, like, what the heck is a "meme zine?"
The meme zine is part comic book, part zine, all meme. Flip through the pages of this absurdly hilarious, Kickstarter-exclusive, collectible monstrosity we've created and think, "what in tarnation is wrong with these extra-mozzarella-stick-getting ska nerds?"
These are just two examples of the ridiculousness that is the Meme Zine!
Just can't get enough WATU? We know the feeling! You can add the following items to any pledge tier:
Self Care CD - $10 + shipping
Self Care Color Vinyl* - $25 + shipping
Who We Are Vinyl - $25 + shipping
We Are The Union Meme Zine (Kickstarter exclusive) - $20 + shipping

To order add-on items, simply choose whichever tier you'd like, and then edit the amount in the 'Your Pledge Amount' box to reflect the updated total. Then, send us a message to tell us what item you're adding on to your order. That's it. We'll handle the rest. If you need more info, check the "How Do I Order Add-On Items" section of the FAQs! Be sure to reference the "add-ons shipping" link in the FAQs to calculate your shipping costs before updating your pledge amount:

Wait, so you already recorded the album? Then what is this Kickstarter for?
Yep! 'Self Care' is already recorded, mixed, and mastered! We paid for everything up until this point out of our own pockets. Our goal is not to make a quick buck, or even to make back the money spent on the album thus far. Rather, the goal is to make the release of 'Self Care' something truly special, by functioning as our own record label - with all of you as our partners! That means we need to:
- Generate physical copies for 'Self Care,' including vinyl & CDs
- Create our own music videos, lyric videos, and other visual content to accompany the record with the help of our resident videographer, Chris Graue
- Run our own marketing, and yes, that means paying for ads. It's not glamorous, but it is true. In 2018, cutting through the static of an oversaturated music market means creating some (hopefully) cool content and spending money to get it to people's eyes and ears.
- Pay Justin Gray & Eden Kittiver for the art, photo, and design of the 'Self Care' artwork
- Pay for 'Who We Are' vinyl from Bad Time Records
- If we meet our third and final stretch goal, pay ourselves back for the recording
- And of course, as with every Kickstarter project, we'll have to pay out nearly 15% of every dollar we generate, plus cover perk fulfillment costs
Don't you need to be signed to a record label to be successful?
We certainly don't think so. There's no right or wrong path as an artist, but to us, success is finding the best way to bring the experience we envision directly to you.
We want to control every aspect of the record making process, so what you get is an unfiltered, real work of art. If a record label were to get involved, the experience would change dramatically as we tried to fit into their cookie cutter release plan. The truth is we don't want to just sit back and expect a record label or a manager to make this record a success. We want the opportunity to put in the hard work ourselves and make this happen on our terms. Further, our hope is that we can, in some small way, shake things up and inspire others to take control of their art, too.
Simply put, this is our divorce from a broken industry that leeches off of the very artists it depends on. This is our declaration of independence. This is our Self Care.
Risks and challenges
It's hard to say what to put here! Since the record is recorded, mixed, and mastered, the only real risk is that production of physical copies or perk fulfillments falls behind schedule. However, the incredibly talented team we've put together to help us has years of experience with this type of project, and we've all worked together to create a schedule and multiple levels of contingency to ensure we are successful.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
