Hi. We're THANKS.
We formed the band on Halloween night, 2011, over drinks and under a full moon. Okay, so maybe the moon wasn't full, but it makes for a better story. Some of us had been playing music together for years, since our days as awkward teenage rebels. Some of us had never even met until that first practice. Regardless, day one proved that this was music worth making. What came out of us was rad. It was haunting and soulful and new and it was fucking rock n roll.
So we kept the project going, and in November 2012, put out our first release, an independently released EP called Silver Scars Will Be Our Constellations. Listen to it here:
It was our first creation, but we were far from finished. About a year later, after a lot of work, sweat (so much sweat) and some serious teamwork, we got to record again. Our very first full-length, Blood Sounds.
However, we're an independent band without a record label to back us. In order to finish mixing the album, master and release it, WE NEED YOUR HELP.
Making a record costs some serious cash. We saved up our pretty pennies all year, made a little money playing shows, and put everything we've earned back into our music. We're in the home stretch now, and a little push from our friends will get us there. We want you to have this album. We want you to hear it, feel it, and really, WE WANT TO TAKE IT TO EUROPE.
On that note, please allow us to introduce to you our esteemed producer and fairy godfather of sorts, Dominik Schmidt. He hails from Vienna, Austria where he is the producer, manager, all around great dude and CEO of Rola Music. Check him out here:
He came to Portland in January in order to scope some new bands to take on tour to Europe. He found us, loved our live show, and wanted to take us with him overseas. Problem was, we only had an EP under our belts, and that wasn't enough to tour on. By then, we had Blood Sounds in the works, but with Europe in our eyes and a fire under our asses, we really got to work.
We spent the first week of August working with the unmatchable Victor Nash, in his recording studio/sci-fi library, Destination Universe. We camped out in tents on his property, tracking the album all day, and playing guitar around the campfire at night. With no distraction from the outside world. Just work. And hotdogs. Out of that alternate universe came Blood Sounds.
We're now mixing with Justin Phelps at Cloud City. (Check him out here: http://cloudcitysound.com/?engineers=justin). He is beyond legit.
This record means the world to us. We have been given a big opportunity, and this album has the potential to take us places. With the very real promise of releasing it to the world outside of Portland, Ore., we think it's worth fighting for.
OH, AND, THE ARTWORK!!
We want you to have something visual and tangible to go with your music. We love a good record cover: a big piece of art to collect and admire, to ponder over as you listen. Although we aren't pressing vinyl copies of our album, we still want to recreate the experience of great cover art. We've enlisted the help of the dopest dudes in the graphic design game, Pizza Friday and Jordan Domont, to print concrete album art for a digital download age. These fine fellas are also collaborating with us for some of the rewards you amazing backers will receive. Lucky you.
Risks and challenges
We still have some loose ends to tie up and things to procure before we can call this record "done." The only real challenge we can foresee would be to make sure the artwork and mastering are done in time to make our estimated release of late November. In order to address this issue, we are working closely with our buddies in the art department and, as we speak, are coordinating with printers and mastering facilities. It takes a village to raise a band, and we are conducting our crew as harmoniously as we know how.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
