Laughs Without Liquor “We Are Not Saints” is a recovery-based standup comedy tour with three outcast Comics sharing their hilarious and poignant stories of recovery and change. These Comics not only entertain, but inspire everyone.
MISSION: DOCUMENTARY & STANDUP COMEDY CONCERT FILM
This feature length film will capture the stories of an unlikely group of friends: recovering addict and former career criminal Felon O'Reilly; a tranny and recovering alcoholic Ian Harvie; and Jewish recovering meth head Amy Dresner; as they take their act on the road.
In 2011 the front line of the comedy scene is darkly hilarious and we invite you to be a part of it. We need your help to make this historic film, which will in turn help others gain the strength and hope they need to find their way out of the darkness. We doubt you will have an opportunity to be a part of something like this again, so please consider helping us spread the hilarity and the message by supporting us with a donation of ANY SIZE.
FELON O’REILLY’S record is impressive to say the least. 73 arrests, 7 incarcerations, 17 rehabs and more than a decade behind bars, Felon is now clean and sober, a Motivational Speaker, Standup Comic and an Author. His book "Laughing on the Inside: The Life and Crimes of Felon O' Reilly" is a staple in treatment centers and prison libraries. He's currently writing his second book, "Lasting on the Outside". He has performed in prisons, high schools, juvenile facilities, conventions and comedy clubs across the nation. Hearing him recount the time when his mother called while he was in the middle of robbing a bank is not only funny but also ridiculous beyond belief. He is the epitome of the saying "Time plus tragedy equals comedy!" You will never hear another comedy act quite like his!
IAN HARVIE was born a girl and is now a man, though you could never tell. To hear him recount the stories of his life trapped inside a body he was at serious odds with and the long tumultuous voyage to change it, is eye opening to say the least. His honesty and vulnerability are breathtaking but he doesn't stop there, he's also hilarious. Comic icon Margaret Cho has not only raved about Ian, she featured him in her smash show “The Sensuous Woman” and toured the world with him and now he’s a comedic force to be reckoned with. As far as we know, he is the only “F to M” transgender Comic on the planet; needless to say his voice is unique. His television appearances include “One Night of Stand Up” the “Outlaugh Comedy Festival on Wisecrack” on the Logo Network, and “Comics Unleashed” on ABC.
AMY DRESNER, a Jew and recovering meth addict and Comic was laying it out on stage at the Downtown Comedy Club in Los Angeles when Ian and Felon found her. The trio not only became fast friends it was a moment of clarity for all three of them. They had found the laugh riot girl who would join them in their cross-country tour. Dresner’s filthy and raucous style shocks audiences while charming them with her raw candid humor of her own painful struggles with addiction, depression, marriage and epilepsy. Dresner has quickly become a recognizable name in the Los Angeles comedy circuit performing all the LA Comedy Clubs including the Improv, Comedy Store, Laugh Factory and Ice House. She was recently written up in the LA Weekly as "Pick of the Week".
SAL IANIELLO, hetero Dad of three, turned queer drug addict, turned 12-step sober service junkie. Sal is a FIT graduate based in Los Angeles and works in the fashion industry by day, while in his spare time and between meetings, he is also the Manager of the comedy group. Sal is a loud mouth (in a good way) Italian guy from New York (of course), who is connected to every sober community (New York, Atlanta, Dallas, and more) he travels to for his fashion work. Sal is the group's "Girl Friday", or should we say "Gurrrrl Friday", taking care of venues, press, promotions, and recovery-related non-profits who need the donations from the proceeds from the shows.
BOBBY R. POIRIER met Ian Harvie in back Maine when he was a girl and had a giant rack on his chest. He has produced and directed the web-based comedy series EVIL SHRINK starring Taylor Negron, Hamish Linklater and Jennifer Elise Cox. His award winning short films have screened in festivals and on television including JAMES LIPTON IS DEAD, RECRUITING, TRADITIONAL FAMILY VAMPIRES, and TANGIBLE FATHERS. He has edited the feature films WHAT’S MY DIAGNOSIS, PART TIME FABULOUS and THE MIKADO PROJECT. For the History Channel he associate produced the four-part mini-series CONQUEST OF AMERICA, which received an Emmy nomination and a NY Festival Gold Medal and DEEP SEA DETECTIVES. Although the cast of this film call him a “normie,” he’s not really sure the label is appropriate.
