The Invertor has been our most challenging project yet. Watch the video below to learn more about the design process and the challenges we had to overcome in order to make the Invertor a reality.
Xeric has been featured on some of the largest publications in the world for bringing unusual, "haute horology" designs to you at affordable prices.
The Invertor Automatic is built around the Citizen’s most prestigious movement - the Miyota Calibre 9000 series. This movement was chosen because of its high beat rate of 28,800 beats per hour, 24 jewels and a 42 hour power reserve. It’s a super slim automatic movement at only 3.9mm thick and it competes with the ETA 2824 - the gold standard from Switzerland.
Our proprietary module attaches to the mainplate reversing both the hour and minute train so it runs counterclockwise, but when you invert the movement it appears to run clockwise.
Each module is thoroughly tested throughout the assembly process to ensure it still holds the same factory chronometric standards (-10/＋30 sec per day). This allows us to maintain the reliability and serviceability of the Miyota Calibre 9000 while creating a fun way of displaying time.
Sapphire glass is known for its clarity and hardness. It is one of the hardest substances on earth, second only to diamond. This means it is virtually scratchproof which is why we chose it for the top crystal on the Invertor Automatic.
For the side crystal, we chose a material called Hesalite which is more shatter resistant than sapphire glass. Because of the crystal’s unusual shape, each one has to be CNC machined to control the tolerances needed to align the crown tube and still maintain 3 ATM water resistance.
All models feature Swiss Super-LumiNova filled hands and rotors for late night adventures. Luminous pigments work like light storage batteries, where UV light charges the “battery” and afterward, the energy is slowly emitted in the form of light. This activation and subsequent light emission process can be repeated again and again, and the material does not suffer from aging.
Xeric straps are made using full grain leather from Horween, one of the oldest continuously running tanneries in the United States. Since 1908, Horween has been making the highest quality leather from their Chicago location on the corner of Elston and Ashland.
Customizing your Xeric automatic is simple. You can switch out your strap in seconds with our built-in, quick release system.
The Invertor Automatic will be limited to only 999 per color. Each watch will be individually numbered. We hope this will become a prized piece of your watch collection.
A great design that will stand the test of time and we feel that the Invertor Automatic watch will become iconic for the Xeric brand. We hope they will become a collector’s item and a keepsake of past adventures and travels that can be handed down for generations to come.
Please select the reward based on the Xeric Invertor Automatic watch you want to receive. You will select the color in our pre-survey that we'll email to you once you pledge for this project. We also have multipack options if you want more than one watch.
We value Kickstarter as a way to reach those unique individuals who share our dream of making highly unusual mechanical watches affordable. We know they're not for everyone but we feel a kinship with Kickstarter culture and the visionary people who support alternative concepts like our mechanical timepieces.
Xeric was started from a passion to push the boundaries of design and create unique, yet affordable time machines. Watches like you've never seen before. As a 10-time creator, Xeric is one of the most successful brands on Kickstarter.
This isn't our first rodeo, but it is our first watch with a proprietary module so we extended the delivery timeline a little longer than our past campaigns to compensate for this. We're confident you'll be wearing your Invertor in time for the holidays.
The team behind Xeric is also responsible for Watches.com (formerly Watchismo). Founded by brothers Mitch & Andrew Greenblatt who are modern horological enthusiasts with a passion for unique timepieces. They've been scouring the globe since 1999 discovering obscure, unusual brands that you’ve probably never heard of as well as carefully curating the brands you love. A watch is a unique form of art, design and personal expression. They have a long-standing mission of providing exceptional and affordable timepieces to adventurous enthusiasts. Risks and challenges
We vigorously test our working prototypes before bringing production-ready designs to Kickstarter. In fact, over the last two years we've gone through multiple revisions to get the Invertor Automatic ready for production.
We are confident that we will meet or beat our estimated delivery dates. Our backers will be in the loop as we communicate updates at every stage of the process.
Our manufacturers stand ready to start production as soon as we meet our Kickstarter funding goal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
