The Battle Board is where tactical battles take place in Worlds of Magic. In the current build players can select units for both their army and the enemy's. They can then fight to the death in a mock battle. We've also made a number of spells available from both the Fire and Water Circles. So, go take a look. It will give you some idea of what to expect from us.

Worlds of Magic will capture the feel of one of the greatest strategy games ever created: Master of Magic. It combines classic elements like randomly generated world maps and powerful heroes with new game mechanics, such as the D20 OGL rule set, and expanded features, like seven planes of existence. Although a completely new title from a design point of view, it seeks to hold true to the essence of what made Master of Magic a true classic.

Filling the mana vault - Stretch goals

Reached stretch goal at $10,000 – The Unit Editor

The unit editor is going to be a modding tool that allows player to give units custom defined stats. You'll be able to change almost everything about the units ranging from hit points to damage type. The editor is going to make tweaking units much easier for the modding community and put it within reach of the average player.

Reached stretch goal at $20,000 – 60 Additional Spells

Yep, we want to put more spells in Worlds of Magic. “Isn't 300 already a lot?” you ask and the obvious answer is “Well sure....” However, there's still plenty of room. Spells are one of the main things that make Worlds of Magic magical. The more we can include, the more options we can offer players, the better. Magic is one of the key elements that defines fantasy strategy (say that three times fast). Spells are magic in its purest form. The more spells we have the more strategic options a player has to bring something “fantastic” to the battlefield. Of course, it's not all about numbers. We're trying to put together a spell list with real variety. We're not just going to have Fireball, Iceball, Acidball, Lifeball, Deathball, and Airball (I felt I should save Airball for last...) You can take a look at some of the backer suggestions we've gotten so far on our wiki.

The more spells we can bring to the game the more suggestions we'll be able to accept.

We'll give you guys 50 more magical items that you can discover strewn across the universe. This mean new icons and models. (You'll be able to use most of the icons and models for item creation as well.)

Stretch goal at $60,000 - 10 Heroes

We'll add even more heroes to the lineup.

Stretch goal at $70,000 - 10th Unit

Each faction will be given a 10th unit to train and do battle with.

Stretch goal at $80,000 - 5 Champions & 5 Titans

Another ten powerhouse units.

Stretch goal at $90,000 - Unique Ships

Each faction may have up to three ships. At the moment each race's ships will all look the same, they'll just have different color markers. We would rather give each race its own unique ships.

Our top end goal (for the moment) is to add another complete race to the list.

GAME FEATURES

4X Game Play: Explore, Expand, Exploit and Exterminate. The classic formula that defines the genre.

DRM Free: We plan to offer DRM free copies of Worlds of Magic for sale. You'll be able to get a DRM free copy by becoming a backer or by purchasing the game after it's released. If you don't know what DRM is then it won't make any difference to you. If you do know then you may be glad to know that you can get a DRM free copy of Worlds of Magic.

Choose from 11 Sorcerer Lords or create your own: Worlds of Magic offers players eleven different pre-created Sorcerer Lords to play as or face as AI opponents, all with unique skills, powers and knowledge. If you prefer you can also create a custom Sorcerer Lord allowing you to select the circles of magic and different disciplines you will use to overthrow the planes.

Over 300 spells sorted into 12 magic circles: Spells in Worlds of Magic are sorted into twelve different Circles focused on the energies that fuel the spell or the spell's effects. Become a life mage or summoner, master all the spells of earth or just those that destroy. The choice is yours. Add spells to your spellbook through research, take them by conquest or find them in unexplored ruins.

Choose from a large number of disciplines: Not all sorcerer skills can be found in a spell book. Select disciplines to give your Sorcerer Lord the powers you need for conquest. Learn the secrets of Alchemy and turn mana into gold. Become an Artificer and make powerful magical artifacts with ease. Or learn the art of war and become a powerful Warlord. 

A Fantasy Setting: Worlds of Magic is set in a fantasized medieval world filled with magic and fanciful creatures. You will see cites of Elves, Dwarves and Undead. You can discover lost shrines and fallen temples guarded by towering giants or fearsome dragons. The world will span a number of different planes each of which can be explored and conquered.8 Playable Factions: Select one race to be the founders of your empire. Overthrow others and make them serve you or raze their cities to the ground. Each faction has unique units along with it's own strengths and weaknesses. Dwarves are lords of the forge and make powerful weapons, armor and even constructs. Elves are lovers of nature and nature itself serves to protect them. Each has their own feel, their own flavor.

Undead as a Playable Race: We wanted to offer a truly unique feel for undead in Worlds of Magic. Not just humans dressed up like zombies. The undead pay no taxes, eat no food, don't want to get a villa down by the beach. They have one goal: The extermination of all life. Choosing to play as Undead is going to alter the entire game play experience. We want it to be something with a truly unique feel.

Tactical Combat: Battles in Worlds of Magic take place on a tactical combat map. Trained units, summoned creatures and hired allies will all join the ranks of your armies. You will be able to support your units with powerful spells. Summon more creatures to the battlefield or blast your enemies with a devastating fireball.

Arena Mode: Want to hone your tactical combat skills without playing a full game? Good news! That's exactly what arena mode allows you to do. Build an army right on the battle map. You can play with and fight against any unit in the game. Test unit abilities, try out new strategies, or just prove to your buddies what a brilliant tactician you are!

D20 Combat Mechanics: Thoroughly play tested, balanced, and offering in-depth mechanics the D20 OGL rule set makes a perfect base for turn-based tactical combat. Worlds of Magic makes use of the rule set to offer units that are unique and flavorful while at the same time ensuring that none are under or over powered.

Units gain experience: All military units in Worlds of Magic gain experience. As they do so they gain levels and become more and more powerful. Even the lowliest of units can become an effective fighting force given time and patience. Over 80 different military units: Each faction offers a number of trainable military units. In addition the world is filled with wandering monsters and powerful guardians. Face them in battle or try to convince them to join you cause.

Hire heroes and champions to lead your armies: Worlds of Magic offers a large number of hand crafted heroes and champions for you to recruit as well as randomly generated ones that can rarely be promoted from normal military units. They can gain more experience than other units and can be equipped with a number of magical artifacts. Use them to lead you armies or join them together into an elite corps.Procedurally Generated Terrain: Every game of Worlds of Magic can be unique. The entire game universe is generated procedurally and can be altered with a number of settings, be given a completely random key or generated based on a key entered manually. You can experience completely new worlds each game, share keys with your friends or enjoy the same game world each time. It's up to you.

Huge Maps: Want to spend days conquering the universe? Worlds of Magic can let you do that. Create games with hundreds of thousands of accessible world tiles. Build hundreds of cities and explore thousands of world features, such as forgotten dungeons and lost cities. Just how big a universe do you want to overthrow?

7 planes of existence to explore and conquer: Explore the Prime Material Plane (a world much like our own) and discover magic portals to the elemental planes of existence. Dive into the Shadow Plane and face the undead legion or head to the Radiant Plane and build a paradise. Expand you empire into the realms of Air, Earth, Fire and Water. Don't just conquer the world, conquer the planes!

Independent empires: Not only will you have to face off against other Sorcerer Lords, minor empires and local kings who seek glory of their own will also oppose your conquest for power.

Craft magical artifacts: Heroes and Champions need powerful tools to help them defend your empire and conquer new lands. Create custom magical items that greatly increase their power.

Worlds of Magic will be initially released for Windows, Mac and Linux, with mobile platforms to be released approximately six months later

Our Veteran Backers

Those of you who backed our first campaign and have returned to back us again may be wondering just how the rewards are going to work. First, all your pledges are going to be combined. For instance if you pledged 50 pounds in the first campaign and 30 dollars in the second campaign then you'll have ~$111 (~£68) that you can “spend” on rewards. You'll be able to pick rewards from either campaign with the exception of certain limited rewards. All Veteran backers can also get the Veteran Pack for pledging just $1.00 or more on anything (so if you pledge $22 for Future Content, you are also getting the Veteran add-on).

When the forms go out for rewards and add-ons selection you'll be provided with the costs in both US Dollars and GB Pounds. We understand the confusion using multiple currencies can cause, but we hope you understand the reason we decided to use both. Please let us know if you have any questions. We'll be glad to answer them!

ADD-ONS

To purchase add ons simply add the cost of the add ons you want to the cost of the pledge tier you want and pledge the total amount. For instance, if you want the Spearman tier ($22) and the Additional Hero Pack ($9) simply pledge $31. After the KS campaign has ended each backer will receive an e-mail survey asking what add ons they selected with their pledge. You can change your mind about add ons before you fill out the survey. So, if you had added $20 for and extra copy, but then changed your mind and decided you want the Digital Spellbook and Digital Soundtrack (both $10) that will be fine with us. If you have already pledged and want to change your pledge simply click the “Manage Pledge” button at the top right of the KS page.

What is the Veteran Pack?

The Veteran Pack is an add-on offering an additional Hero, Champion, Titan, and Sorcerer Lord. It is available to anyone, but our backers who also backed our first campaign (Veterans) can get it with a $1.00 pledge.

Why do they get such a great deal? Well, for the last five months they've been helping us shape Worlds of Magic. They've weighed in on debates and taken part in votes and done a lot of honest-to-goodness work to help make the game what it is now. Their pledges from the first campaign have also helped fuel the project up to this point. Without them we wouldn't have come this far (at least not this fast anyway). So, it's a special thank you to them for the last five months.

Of course, we didn't want new backers to feel left out. (We do have a limited number of Swordsman packages that give you an “early bird” crack at the Veteran Pack for only $5.00). Any backer who wants the add-in can get it. The price difference merely reflects our gratitude for the effort our current backers have already put it.

Future Worlds of Magic Content: Get all future Worlds of Magic content for free. (We're planning to do a lot with this game in future guys. This is your chance to get a lot of future additions at a very low price!)

Additional Copy: Get an extra digital copy of the game at a discount.

Digital Spellbook: A digital copy of the physical spellbook. (The game comes with a digital spellbook, the addon is a more attractive version that will look like the physical copy.)

Digital Soundtrack: A digital version of the game's soundtrack.

Additional Hero Pack: Add 5 KS exclusive random heroes to your game.

Digital Creatures Roster: A digital list of creatures and units with their image and stats. (The game comes with information on all the creatures and units in the game. This addon is for a more attractive, artistic version.)

Elven Winged Hussar: Add a KS exclusive elvish cavalry unit. They may show up as a “wandering monster” or mercenary band for hire depending on the circumstances.

Ogre Mage: It is a highly intelligent, very powerful, magic wielding Ogre that is also deadly in melee combat. It is a fine addition to almost any army. 

The physical rewards are fairly self explanatory. Be sure to add $10 for shipping.

Customized Wallpaper – Get a beautiful digital wallpaper customized with your name or screen name.

Alpha Access – Ever want to be involved in the Alpha testing phase of of a game? Well now you can be! (Backers who put in $100 or more get this add-on for free. Keep in mind this is access to an alpha version of Worlds of Magic, not early access to a playable game. This will give you the opportunity to help test mechanics and offer balance and feature feedback. It will not let you “play the game” before everyone else.)

Design and Name a Spell – You'll be allowed to suggest a spell to us along with it's name and help us weave it into Worlds of Magic. (This will give you direct creative input, not creative control. Any spell added to Worlds of Magic must fit with regard to name, effect, and balance. We will help you make your suggestion fit. Not all suggestions will necessarily be acceptable.)

Name a Hero or Champion – Give a name to one of our many heroes and champions. (This will give you direct creative input, not creative control. Any name must fit the theme of Worlds of Magic.)

Physical Upgrade – Wish you could get the printed box, manual, and DVD with your current tier? Now you can.

On Canvas Print – You'll be able to pick from a number of Worlds of Magic artworks and have it printed on canvas and mailed to you. (Extra shipping charges may apply.)

Signed Print – Get a numbered and signed print of one of Wojtek's masterpieces. (Extra shipping charges may apply.)  

Why only $5,000.00?

Well, as you may already know we ran a successful Kickstarter campaign in April of 2013. So, the real question isn't why are we trying to raise just $5000.00, but why are we trying to raise even $1.00 more. There are several reasons really.

First, we're a team of enthusiasts and we want to offer as high a quality game as we can. We want Worlds of Magic to offer treats not only to your intellect, but also to your eyes and ears. Because of this we've invested a great deal in our artwork and special effects. We want to add even more and keep improving what we've got. Worlds of Magic is a truly fantastic game and we want people to see that at first glance.

Second, we want to build our community. Our first campaign had over 2,000 backers. Many of them are active participants in the game's development. This isn't just something we're saying, it's something that's actually happening. By backing Worlds of Magic (at the Swordsman level and above) you get the right to have input on the game. And the more input we get the better it's going to be.

Third, we've had many people lamenting the fact that they didn't know about our first campaign. And we've had many backers say they wish they'd been able to put in more the first time. This campaign is for previous backers, people who wish they were backers, and people who never even heard of Worlds of Magic. We're very confident that we'll hit our base goal relatively quickly. The reason for this is because many of our current backers have decided to pledge again. That's how much they believe in what we're doing. They've seen what we've done with the funds we've already raised and agree that we've put it to good use. Well, now you have a chance to become part of this. You have the opportunity to become a backer, join our growing community, and help us make Worlds of Magic bigger and better.

Wastelands Interactive is an independent game developer located in Poland. Since its inception in 2006 its focus has been the production of strategic and tactical war games that combine depth of play with accessibility. Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Time. One of the greatest challenges we have to face is getting all the features we want in Worlds of Magic by our target date. Although none of them should delay our Beta version, which we plan to have ready during 4Q 2013, it may delay the final release of the game simply because of the additional workload. We will certainly do our best to hit our deadlines, but in our minds quality is more important that a set in stone release date. We feel that, even if there should be a slight delay, the wait will be worth it. We will, of course, keep the community updated and let them know as we reach development milestones.
