WHO WE ARE?
I think it's important for you to know who's behind the Washington Mount Vernon company, especially before asking for your trust and commitment. My name is Peter Cuderman. I am a recent MBA graduate and worked at J.P. Morgan in their Private Bank for a year before deciding to adventure out on my own path. The idea of building a company from scratch and living the American Dream is important to me. I attended Florida Gulf Coast University for both my undergraduate and graduate studies. While there, I was elected Student Body President and a University Trustee. I am currently a partner at a consulting firm, a director on my University's Alumni Board of Directors, a Chamber of Commerce member, and adjunct professor.
I found out at a young age that I was an entrepreneur. From lemonade stands to gumball machines to newspaper routes and beyond, I knew that I was going to create something that I was passionate about and give it everything I had to make it become successful.
I have always been an enthusiast of fine watches. I wondered how they moved, how they were designed, and what made them tick (literally). It wasn't until I was in the market for a fine watch that I discovered just how thin the market itself actually is. I saw many watches that could describe me, but they were either too expensive or too overbought. A watch is a piece of art. It is a creation that a person can identify within themselves. With that being said, I wanted to enter the market with an idea.
I began doing research on the industrial times in United States history. Many of us know Montgomery Ward as an American retail store; however Mr. Ward was involved in a variety of business enterprises. He was also involved in a company known as the Illinois Watch Company. The Illinois Watch Company was a premier manufacturer of pocket watches for high society. They used mechanical movements and were engraved beautifully. At the end of the nineteenth century, Mr. Montgomery Ward himself produced a private line for himself and colleagues. The line was known as the Washington Watch Company. It was later dissolved, but has become known as an almost mythical production line of watches.
At this point, in mid-2012, I looked for manufacturers. I actually found three companies in the United States that could produce an automatic watch for me, but they were getting all of their pieces from Switzerland, and simply assembling here. I decided at this point that I would get all of the watches made in Switzerland, until it was possible to build a manufacturing facility in the United States. I would rather know that I have best quality pieces being made first and foremost. Then we can begin to establish a presence for production in the States.
The design process was based on the old Washington Watch Company, from a holistic standpoint, but I wanted to establish a contemporary look that could personify with the person wearing it. I want a person to wake up and be so proud to put this watch on; the same way I feel each day. The design, while simple, creates a very clean and established look. The back opens up to a see-through movement with engravings throughout.
The package includes a wooden treasure chest box made of pinewood. Each watch comes with an Olde English handwritten letter accompanying the serial number.
We got our first sample models from four different manufacturers in Switzerland. They each provided a unique experience to us, but we found one that stood above the rest. Their production, assembly, and workers were second to none.
We have ordered multiple stages of primary samples, but to bring to a secondary production, the numbers are much higher. The manufacturer that we have chosen has a proven record working with some of the best brands in the world. Each watch comes with a one year warranty for any manufacturing defects. The production timeline is very reasonable, and we have checkpoints from our manufacturer twice a week – these will be provided via updates. The expected production time is 15 weeks, and an additional week for delivery.
Kickstarter provides us with the proper platform for exposure to the masses. We have created a project that we love, but we need your help. The production numbers for the secondary production line are huge. We have a lot of time, money, and sweat dedicated to this project, and with your help we can make this a reality. You, as a backer, will get a top quality product at a lower price point, well before any other consumer and with a lower serial number. By backing our project, you are helping us live our dream of creating a timepiece that will resonate with a large audience for many years to come.
What will we do with the money?
As mentioned, the overhead for a large watch order is quite substantial. With that being said, depending on the funding we plan to:
1) Complete the Project - Our first and foremost goal would be completed well before the deadline.
2) Establish our Presence - We will create our first storefront
3) Become Affiliates - We will begin to pop up in your favorite luxury jewelry stores.
4) Research and Development - This secondary run will allow us to create a well-oiled machine for future mass production. It will also allow us to begin research and development of our second line of Washington watches.

Risks and challenges
First and foremost, we have invested upward $50,000 to follow our dream and get the initial batch started so that we can share with the Kickstarter world. With that being said, we wouldn't have it any other way. We are happy that you are taking the time to even be a part of it!
Secondly, we have spent the past year and a half making sure that we have put together the right watch for production. We know that you are taking a risk by being a contributor to us, and the manufacturing process is commonly the issue. We have one of the best Swiss manufacturers ready to start, but without having our project fully funded, we won't be able to order our first full product line. With that in mind, we want you to know that we are very confident that we will meet or even BEAT our projected delivery dates.
The minute we meet our funding goal, we will send the production order out and get started. We will always do our best to communicate with you, as you are a part of our team!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
